Who is the 0.61 A/R G35 Turbine Housing Kit for?

Builders putting a G35 on a smaller engine, around 2.5L to 3.5L, who want boost to come in early. The 0.61 A/R G35 Turbine Housing Kit gives the quickest spool in the G35 range. Larger engines, or builds after the full G35-1050 rating, will be restricted by it.

Would a G30 with a bigger housing be a better choice?

For many engines under 3.5L it is worth comparing. Garrett rates G30 cores from 350 to 900 horsepower and G35 cores from 550 to 1050. If the power target sits inside the G30 range, a G30 will usually respond better; if it sits above 900 horsepower, a G35 with this small housing is the way to keep it responsive.

Does this housing need an external wastegate?

Yes. It is a free-float housing without a wastegate port, so boost must be controlled by an external gate on the manifold. A small A/R drives the turbine hard at low flow, so a correctly sized gate is needed to stop boost overshooting the target.

Can I clock the housing?

Yes. Garrett says the center housing to turbine housing V-band on the G-Series permits 360 degree orientation with non-wastegated housings like this one. It can therefore be turned to line up the inlet and outlet with the manifold and downpipe before the clamp is tightened.

Which G35 core suits the 0.61 A/R housing best?

The G35-900 and the G-Series II G35-990, both with a 62mm compressor and rated from 550 horsepower, are the natural partners for a small housing on a smaller engine. The G35-1050 has a 68mm compressor rated from 700 horsepower and usually needs more turbine flow than 0.61 A/R provides.

Description

Garrett G35 Turbine Housing Kit, 0.61 A/R V-Band Free Float

Garrett’s G35 Turbine Housing Kit in 0.61 A/R is the smallest volute Garrett offers for the G35 frame, a V-band in and out free-float housing for standard-rotation cores. Garrett lists part 740902-0102 for the G35-900, G35-1050 and G-Series II G35-990. It exists to make a big turbocharger respond on a smaller engine: a 2.5L to 3.5L running a G35-900 or G35-990 gets boost noticeably sooner than with the larger housings. On a 5.0L V8 or a build chasing the top of the G35-1050 rating, it will hold the engine back with back pressure, and 1.01 A/R or larger fits better.

Response from a Big Frame

The G35 turbine wheel measures 68mm at the inducer and 62mm at the exducer, which takes a lot of exhaust energy to accelerate. The tight 0.61 A/R volute raises gas velocity onto that wheel at low flow, bringing the turbocharger up to speed sooner. Garrett states that its non-wastegated housings can be oriented through 360 degrees on the center housing V-band.

Features

0.61 A/R, the smallest G35 housing, for faster spool
V-band inlet and V-band outlet
Free float, used with an external wastegate
Stainless steel, rated to 1050C (1922F)

Specifications

Garrett part number: 740902-0102
A/R: 0.61
Turbine inlet and outlet: V-band and V-band
Wastegate: External (free float)
Rotation: Standard
Material: Stainless steel, rated to 1050C (1922F)

Applications

Garrett lists this G35 Turbine Housing Kit for these standard-rotation super cores, rated from 550 to 1050 horsepower on 2.0L to 5.5L engines:

Garrett G35-900: 880695-5001S
Garrett G35-990 G-Series II: 934123-5001S
Garrett G35-1050: 880695-5002S

Notes

An external wastegate is required, because this free-float housing has no internal wastegate
The G35 super core is sold separately
Standard rotation; the reverse-rotation 0.61 A/R V-band housing is part 740902-0112
Larger V-band options are 0.83 A/R part 740902-0103, 1.01 A/R part 740902-0104 and 1.21 A/R part 740902-0105

Shipping Policy

Items that are in stock in the US, either at Bulletproof’s warehouse or at a supplier’s warehouse, are generally delivered within 7-10 days. Special order items from overseas take considerably longer. As a courtesy Bulletproof offers delivery estimates to our customers which take into consideration manufacturer availability and shipping schedule. These estimates represent our best guess based on previous orders from the manufacturer and do not in any way imply a guaranteed delivery window. Many manufacturers work in a “just in time” inventory system and often take 2-20+ weeks to produce an item once an order is submitted. All deliverable items are then sent to our Japanese warehouse. Bulletproof ships a minimum of one full ocean freight container every month from Japan, oftentimes more than one a month. Ocean freight takes an average of 4 weeks. Typically it breaks down to one week in Japan for paperwork and customs, two weeks by boat and one week in US customs/clearance. Due to the wide number of variables between manufacturer and shipping schedules, delivery estimates are simply just that – estimates. We attempt to estimate conservatively and we usually deliver faster than our estimates suggest. It is not Bulletproof’s policy to guarantee delivery time of any special order item, this is impossible for us to do. By ordering you acknowledge that there is no required delivery ETA and an order may not be canceled or altered due to manufacturing or shipping delays, all ETA’s are provided as a best guess only. BP Pricing Difference

We do pricing a little differently on our JDM brands and we believe in making things simple and clear. No hidden fees or surcharges. Every price you see includes the shipping cost to our office in Los Angeles, California and all the associated taxes/duties/fees for bringing the products into the US. The only shipping you ever pay is from our facility in the US to your location. Be wary of resellers that don’t include the cost of international shipping in their pricing on JDM parts. While we believe we’ll always have the lowest all-in price on JDM products, we offer a price match guarantee for all authentic parts purchased from authorized dealers as well. For many international customers, it’s much more affordable to ship from the USA than from Japan directly, as the air freight and ocean freight costs are typically much less. However, for customers looking to ship directly from Japan outside of North America, or domestically in Japan, we can provide pricing specifically for that scenario. Please do not hesitate to contact us with any pricing questions or concerns. Please email us at sales@bulletproofautomotive.com with any inquiries.
