What build is the G35-990 G-Series II Turbocharger meant for?

Garrett sizes it for 2.0L to 5.5L engines making 550 to 990 horsepower. With the 0.83 A/R housing, the G35-990 G-Series II Turbocharger suits a built 3.0L to 4.0L engine that wants big turbine flow but still needs boost early enough to drive well on the street.

How is the G35-990 different from the G30-900?

Both have a 62mm compressor inducer. The G35-990 pairs it with the larger 68mm by 62mm G35 turbine and adds the G-Series II compressor and turbine updates, while the first-generation G30-900 uses the 60mm by 55mm G30 turbine. The G35 turbine lowers back pressure on larger engines.

How much horsepower does Garrett rate it for?

Garrett rates the G35-990 at 550 to 990 horsepower, calculated from the choke flow of the compressor map as potential flywheel horsepower. The 0.83 A/R housing favors response, so a typical build on this version settles in the middle of that range.

Can a G35 Gen I owner upgrade to this?

Yes, though usually with a CHRA rather than this complete turbo. Garrett states that G-Series II uses Gen I compressor and turbine housings and offers a direct upgrade path with just a CHRA purchase. This complete unit suits new builds or a change of housing.

What is the maximum speed for the G35-990?

Garrett publishes 140,000 rpm as the maximum allowable speed. Use above it is at the risk of the owner and can cause damage and premature failure. A speed sensor installed into the compressor housing lets the tuner monitor shaft speed, and Garrett sells the sensor kit separately.

Description

Garrett G35-990 G-Series II Turbocharger, 0.83 A/R V-Band Internal Wastegate

Garrett’s G35-990 G-Series II Turbocharger with the 0.83 A/R housing combines a 62mm compressor wheel with the large 68mm G35 turbine, assembled by Garrett with a V-band internal wastegate housing and a calibrated 0.5 bar actuator. Garrett rates it at 550 to 990 horsepower on engines from 2.0L to 5.5L, a broader range than the first-generation G35-1050. The 0.83 A/R suits a 3.0L to 4.0L engine targeting 700 to 850 horsepower with usable response. A 2.0L engine will find the G35 turbine slow to wake up and is usually better on a G30.

G-Series II Upgrades

Garrett credits G-Series II with up to 10 percent more compressor flow than the first generation at peak pressure ratio and turbo speed, and a new turbine wheel that flows 15 to 20 percent more than its GTX turbine at 74 percent peak efficiency. G-Series II keeps the first-generation housings, so an existing G35 owner can reuse the compressor cover.

What’s Included

G35-990 G-Series II turbocharger with 0.83 A/R internal wastegate housing and actuator
Oil restrictor and water fittings

Applications

The G35-990 G-Series II Turbocharger is not vehicle specific. Garrett sizes it by engine and output:

Engine displacement: 2.0L to 5.5L
Power range: 550 to 990 horsepower (Garrett rating)

Notes

Garrett also builds this turbo with a 1.01 A/R housing, and sells the G35-990 super core and CHRA in both rotations
The Garrett speed sensor kit is sold separately
Garrett states that running above 140,000 rpm is at the owner’s risk and can cause damage and premature failure
Garrett states that a calibration is needed to gain power from the added compressor flow

Additional Information

The Bulletproof Automotive website contains many thousands of products purchased in multiple different currencies. All of the prices are entered manually and accurately at the time of entry. Due to the consistently fluctuating international exchange rates, at times prices may not be able to be honored at their original intended rate. Rest assured that any order you place on line will be at zero risk to you in this area. If in the event your order cannot be fulfilled at the original intended website price we will offer you a 100% refund, no questions asked. Shipping Policy

Items that are in stock in the US, either at Bulletproof’s warehouse or at a supplier’s warehouse, are generally delivered within 7-10 days. Special order items from overseas take considerably longer. As a courtesy Bulletproof offers delivery estimates to our customers which take into consideration manufacturer availability and shipping schedule. These estimates represent our best guess based on previous orders from the manufacturer and do not in any way imply a guaranteed delivery window. Many manufacturers work in a “just in time” inventory system and often take 2-20+ weeks to produce an item once an order is submitted. All deliverable items are then sent to our Japanese warehouse. Bulletproof ships a minimum of one full ocean freight container every month from Japan, oftentimes more than one a month. Ocean freight takes an average of 4 weeks. Typically it breaks down to one week in Japan for paperwork and customs, two weeks by boat and one week in US customs/clearance. Due to the wide number of variables between manufacturer and shipping schedules, delivery estimates are simply just that – estimates. We attempt to estimate conservatively and we usually deliver faster than our estimates suggest. It is not Bulletproof’s policy to guarantee delivery time of any special order item, this is impossible for us to do. By ordering you acknowledge that there is no required delivery ETA and an order may not be canceled or altered due to manufacturing or shipping delays, all ETA’s are provided as a best guess only. BP Pricing Difference

We do pricing a little differently on our JDM brands and we believe in making things simple and clear. No hidden fees or surcharges. Every price you see includes the shipping cost to our office in Los Angeles, California and all the associated taxes/duties/fees for bringing the products into the US. The only shipping you ever pay is from our facility in the US to your location. Be wary of resellers that don’t include the cost of international shipping in their pricing on JDM parts. While we believe we’ll always have the lowest all-in price on JDM products, we offer a price match guarantee for all authentic parts purchased from authorized dealers as well. For many international customers, it’s much more affordable to ship from the USA than from Japan directly, as the air freight and ocean freight costs are typically much less. However, for customers looking to ship directly from Japan outside of North America, or domestically in Japan, we can provide pricing specifically for that scenario. Please do not hesitate to contact us with any pricing questions or concerns. Please email us at sales@bulletproofautomotive.com with any inquiries.
