Is the 1.21 A/R reverse G30 Turbine Housing Kit too big for a V6?

For most twin-turbo V6 engines, yes. Each bank of a V6 sends three cylinders of exhaust to its turbocharger, which rarely spools a 1.21 A/R housing quickly. The 1.21 A/R reverse G30 Turbine Housing Kit is meant for large twin-turbo V8 engines chasing peak power.

What is it paired with on the other bank?

The standard-rotation 1.21 A/R V-band housing, part 740902-0089, on a standard G30 core. Using the same A/R on both turbochargers keeps the two banks spooling together, which makes wastegate setup and the calibration far easier than with mismatched housings, and it keeps the exhaust plumbing symmetrical.

Will a standard G30 core accept this housing?

No. The volute is shaped for a turbine wheel turning in reverse, and Garrett lists this housing for reverse-rotation G30 super cores only. Standard-rotation cores need part 740902-0089 or one of the other standard G30 housings, which Garrett offers from 0.61 to 1.21 A/R with V-band, T3 and divided T4 inlets.

Do I need a speed sensor with large housings?

Garrett recommends monitoring shaft speed on any G-Series turbocharger. A large housing does not raise the limit, which is set by the core, from 145,000 rpm on the G30-900 to 165,000 rpm on the G30-660. A sensor fits the compressor housing and is sold separately.

Which cores does Garrett list it for?

Five reverse-rotation super cores: the G30-660, G30-770, G30-900, and the G-Series II G30-725 and G30-825, rated together from 350 to 900 horsepower on 2.0L to 3.5L engines. The G-Series II cores share the original turbine housings, so the housing stays usable through a core upgrade.

Description

Garrett G30 Turbine Housing Kit, 1.21 A/R V-Band Free Float Reverse Rotation

Garrett’s G30 Turbine Housing Kit in 1.21 A/R reverse rotation is the largest volute Garrett offers for a reverse G30 core, a stainless free-float housing with V-band flanges. Part 740902-0099 is listed for the reverse-rotation G30-660, G30-770, G30-900 and the G-Series II G30-725 and G30-825. It belongs on a big-displacement twin-turbo engine where each G30-900 or G30-825 is expected to deliver its full rating and high-rpm flow comes first, partnered with standard part 740902-0089. Most twin-turbo V6 builds will find it too large and should look at the 0.83 or 1.01 A/R reverse housings.

Flow First

Even split across two banks, the exhaust of a large V8 can keep a pair of 1.21 A/R housings spooled, and the low restriction keeps back pressure down at peak power. This is the reverse half of that pair, mirroring the standard housing so both sides of the engine share the same plumbing layout. External wastegates control boost on each bank.

Features

Largest reverse-rotation G30 volute, 1.21 A/R
V-band inlet and outlet
Free-float housing for external wastegate builds

Specifications

Garrett part number: 740902-0099
A/R: 1.21
Turbine inlet and outlet: 3 in (76.2mm) V-band and 3.5 in (90.16mm) V-band
Wastegate: External (free float)
Rotation: Reverse
Material: Stainless steel, rated to 1050C (1922F)

Applications

Garrett lists this G30 Turbine Housing Kit for these reverse-rotation super cores:

Garrett G30-660 Reverse Rotation: 880694-5001S
Garrett G30-725 G-Series II Reverse Rotation: 934121-5001S
Garrett G30-770 Reverse Rotation: 880694-5002S
Garrett G30-825 G-Series II Reverse Rotation: 934121-5002S
Garrett G30-900 Reverse Rotation: 880694-5003S

Notes

An external wastegate is required, because this free-float housing has no wastegate port
The reverse-rotation G30 super core is sold separately
Reverse rotation only; standard cores take the 1.21 A/R V-band housing, part 740902-0089
Garrett states that running a G30 above its maximum turbocharger speed is at the owner’s risk; a speed sensor kit is sold separately

Additional Information

The Bulletproof Automotive website contains many thousands of products purchased in multiple different currencies. All of the prices are entered manually and accurately at the time of entry. Due to the consistently fluctuating international exchange rates, at times prices may not be able to be honored at their original intended rate. Rest assured that any order you place on line will be at zero risk to you in this area. If in the event your order cannot be fulfilled at the original intended website price we will offer you a 100% refund, no questions asked. Shipping Policy

Items that are in stock in the US, either at Bulletproof’s warehouse or at a supplier’s warehouse, are generally delivered within 7-10 days. Special order items from overseas take considerably longer. As a courtesy Bulletproof offers delivery estimates to our customers which take into consideration manufacturer availability and shipping schedule. These estimates represent our best guess based on previous orders from the manufacturer and do not in any way imply a guaranteed delivery window. Many manufacturers work in a “just in time” inventory system and often take 2-20+ weeks to produce an item once an order is submitted. All deliverable items are then sent to our Japanese warehouse. Bulletproof ships a minimum of one full ocean freight container every month from Japan, oftentimes more than one a month. Ocean freight takes an average of 4 weeks. Typically it breaks down to one week in Japan for paperwork and customs, two weeks by boat and one week in US customs/clearance. Due to the wide number of variables between manufacturer and shipping schedules, delivery estimates are simply just that – estimates. We attempt to estimate conservatively and we usually deliver faster than our estimates suggest. It is not Bulletproof’s policy to guarantee delivery time of any special order item, this is impossible for us to do. By ordering you acknowledge that there is no required delivery ETA and an order may not be canceled or altered due to manufacturing or shipping delays, all ETA’s are provided as a best guess only. BP Pricing Difference

We do pricing a little differently on our JDM brands and we believe in making things simple and clear. No hidden fees or surcharges. Every price you see includes the shipping cost to our office in Los Angeles, California and all the associated taxes/duties/fees for bringing the products into the US. The only shipping you ever pay is from our facility in the US to your location. Be wary of resellers that don’t include the cost of international shipping in their pricing on JDM parts. While we believe we’ll always have the lowest all-in price on JDM products, we offer a price match guarantee for all authentic parts purchased from authorized dealers as well. For many international customers, it’s much more affordable to ship from the USA than from Japan directly, as the air freight and ocean freight costs are typically much less. However, for customers looking to ship directly from Japan outside of North America, or domestically in Japan, we can provide pricing specifically for that scenario. Please do not hesitate to contact us with any pricing questions or concerns. Please email us at sales@bulletproofautomotive.com with any inquiries.
