Is the 0.61 A/R G30 Turbine Housing Kit too small for my build?

It depends on displacement and target. The 0.61 A/R G30 Turbine Housing Kit suits 2.0L to 2.5L engines that want boost early, usually with a G30-660 or G30-725. A larger engine, or a build aimed at the top of the G30-900 rating, will run into back pressure and should use 0.83 A/R or larger.

What size are the V-band flanges?

Garrett gives the G30 V-band turbine inlet as 3 inch, or 76.2mm, and the V-band outlet as 3.5 inch, or 90.16mm, the same sizes it uses on GTX turbochargers. The manifold and downpipe need V-band flanges to match, and Garrett publishes a flange diagram to confirm fit before ordering.

Can I rotate the housing to suit my downpipe?

Yes. Garrett states that the V-band joint between the G-Series center housing and its non-wastegated turbine housings allows 360 degree orientation. As a free-float housing, this one can be clocked to whatever angle lines up the inlet with the manifold and the outlet with the downpipe.

Do I need an external wastegate with the 0.61 A/R housing?

Yes. There is no wastegate port in a free-float housing, so boost must be controlled by an external wastegate on the exhaust manifold. With a small A/R building boost quickly, a correctly sized gate matters for holding target boost once the engine is on load.

Can I run the 0.61 A/R housing with a G30-900?

Garrett lists it for the G30-900, so it will fit, but the pairing rarely makes sense. The G30-900 has a 62mm compressor rated from 550 to 900 horsepower, and pushing that much air needs more turbine flow than a 0.61 A/R allows. Most G30-900 builds run 0.83 A/R or larger.

Description

Garrett G30 Turbine Housing Kit, 0.61 A/R V-Band Free Float

Garrett’s G30 Turbine Housing Kit in 0.61 A/R is the smallest exhaust housing Garrett makes for the G30 frame, a stainless free-float casting with a 3 inch V-band inlet and a 3.5 inch V-band outlet for standard-rotation cores. Garrett lists part 740902-0086 for the G30-660, G30-770, G30-900 and the G-Series II G30-725 and G30-825. It is built for response: a 2.0L to 2.5L engine running a G30-660 or G30-725 gets boost early and a broad mid-range. Paired with a G30-900 on a 3.5L chasing peak output, it will choke the turbine side, so step up to 0.83 or 1.01 A/R there.

Small A/R, Fast Spool

A 0.61 A/R volute narrows the path to the 60mm G30 turbine wheel, raising gas speed at low exhaust flow so the turbocharger comes up to speed sooner. The price is higher back pressure as flow climbs, which is why Garrett offers four larger V-band sizes. With no wastegate in the housing, an external gate on the manifold controls boost.

Features

Smallest G30 A/R, chosen for early boost
3 in (76.2mm) V-band inlet and 3.5 in (90.16mm) V-band outlet, per Garrett
Free float, clockable through 360 degrees on the center housing joint
Stainless steel rated to 1050C (1922F)

Specifications

Garrett part number: 740902-0086
A/R: 0.61
Turbine inlet and outlet: 3 in (76.2mm) V-band and 3.5 in (90.16mm) V-band
Wastegate: External (free float)
Rotation: Standard
Material: Stainless steel, rated to 1050C (1922F)

Applications

Garrett lists this G30 Turbine Housing Kit for these standard-rotation super cores, rated from 350 to 900 horsepower on 2.0L to 3.5L engines:

Garrett G30-660: 880693-5001S
Garrett G30-725 G-Series II: 934117-5001S
Garrett G30-770: 880693-5002S
Garrett G30-825 G-Series II: 934117-5002S
Garrett G30-900: 880693-5003S

Notes

An external wastegate is required, because this free-float housing has no wastegate port
The G30 super core is sold separately
Standard rotation; the reverse-rotation 0.61 A/R V-band housing is part 740902-0096
Larger V-band options are 0.83 A/R part 740902-0087, 1.01 A/R part 740902-0088 and 1.21 A/R part 740902-0089

Shipping Policy

Items that are in stock in the US, either at Bulletproof’s warehouse or at a supplier’s warehouse, are generally delivered within 7-10 days. Special order items from overseas take considerably longer. As a courtesy Bulletproof offers delivery estimates to our customers which take into consideration manufacturer availability and shipping schedule. These estimates represent our best guess based on previous orders from the manufacturer and do not in any way imply a guaranteed delivery window. Many manufacturers work in a “just in time” inventory system and often take 2-20+ weeks to produce an item once an order is submitted. All deliverable items are then sent to our Japanese warehouse. Bulletproof ships a minimum of one full ocean freight container every month from Japan, oftentimes more than one a month. Ocean freight takes an average of 4 weeks. Typically it breaks down to one week in Japan for paperwork and customs, two weeks by boat and one week in US customs/clearance. Due to the wide number of variables between manufacturer and shipping schedules, delivery estimates are simply just that – estimates. We attempt to estimate conservatively and we usually deliver faster than our estimates suggest. It is not Bulletproof’s policy to guarantee delivery time of any special order item, this is impossible for us to do. By ordering you acknowledge that there is no required delivery ETA and an order may not be canceled or altered due to manufacturing or shipping delays, all ETA’s are provided as a best guess only. BP Pricing Difference

We do pricing a little differently on our JDM brands and we believe in making things simple and clear. No hidden fees or surcharges. Every price you see includes the shipping cost to our office in Los Angeles, California and all the associated taxes/duties/fees for bringing the products into the US. The only shipping you ever pay is from our facility in the US to your location. Be wary of resellers that don’t include the cost of international shipping in their pricing on JDM parts. While we believe we’ll always have the lowest all-in price on JDM products, we offer a price match guarantee for all authentic parts purchased from authorized dealers as well. For many international customers, it’s much more affordable to ship from the USA than from Japan directly, as the air freight and ocean freight costs are typically much less. However, for customers looking to ship directly from Japan outside of North America, or domestically in Japan, we can provide pricing specifically for that scenario. Please do not hesitate to contact us with any pricing questions or concerns. Please email us at sales@bulletproofautomotive.com with any inquiries.
