Will the G25-550 Turbocharger bolt to a T25 manifold?

Yes. This version of the G25-550 Turbocharger has a T25 turbine inlet and a V-band outlet, so it mounts to a manifold with a T25 flange. The downpipe needs a matching V-band flange, and the oil and water lines must suit the G25 center section.

What does the 0.49 A/R housing do for spool?

A smaller A/R speeds up the exhaust gas reaching the turbine wheel, so boost arrives earlier in the rev range. The 0.49 A/R is the smallest G25 housing Garrett lists. The tradeoff is less exhaust flow at high rpm, which limits power near the top of the rating.

How much power can a 0.49 A/R G25-550 support?

Garrett rates the G25-550 at 300 to 550 horsepower from the choke flow of its compressor map, which represents potential flywheel horsepower. With the smallest housing an engine will usually sit lower in that band. The calibration, fuel system and boost level decide the final figure.

Is an oil restrictor included?

Yes. Garrett includes an oil restrictor and water fittings with G-Series turbochargers, and this part number arrives with the internal wastegate housing and a 0.5 bar actuator already fitted and set. Oil feed and drain lines and coolant lines are sourced separately.

Can I later fit a G-Series II core to this turbo?

Yes. Garrett states that G-Series II uses the first-generation compressor and turbine housings, and names the G25-585 as the like-model upgrade for the G25-550. Swapping in the G25-585 CHRA keeps this T25 housing and the compressor cover, and a new calibration is required to use the extra flow.

Description

Garrett G25-550 Turbocharger, 0.49 A/R T25 Internal Wastegate

Garrett’s G25-550 Turbocharger with the 0.49 A/R housing is the quickest spooling complete version of Garrett’s first-generation G25, built around a 48mm compressor wheel, a T25 turbine inlet, a V-band outlet and an internal wastegate. The T25 inlet is the common small-frame turbine flange, which makes this the G25-550 to consider when the existing manifold already carries that pattern. Garrett rates the model at 300 to 550 horsepower on 1.4L to 3.0L engines. With the smallest housing Garrett offers in this frame it gives up some top-end flow for earlier boost, so an engine aimed at the top of that range is better matched to the 0.72 or 0.92 A/R versions.

Design

The G-Series compressor wheel reaches a maximum efficiency of 80 percent by Garrett’s figures, and the new turbine aerodynamics are designed for higher flow and efficiency than earlier Garrett turbines. Garrett rates both the Mar-M turbine wheel and the stainless steel turbine housing to 1050C (1922F).

Features

T25 turbine inlet with a V-band outlet, the only T25 option Garrett lists for this model
Internal wastegate, assembled and calibrated by Garrett with a 0.5 bar actuator
Fully machined speed sensor and pressure ports on the compressor side

Specifications

Compressor inducer and exducer: 48mm and 60mm
Turbine inducer and exducer: 54mm and 49mm
Turbine housing: 0.49 A/R stainless steel, T25 inlet and V-band outlet
Wastegate actuator: 0.5 bar
Maximum turbocharger speed: 185,000 rpm
Rotation: Standard

What’s Included

G25-550 turbocharger with 0.49 A/R internal wastegate housing and actuator
Oil restrictor and water fittings

Applications

The G25-550 Turbocharger is not vehicle specific. Garrett sizes it by engine and output:

Engine displacement: 1.4L to 3.0L
Power range: 300 to 550 horsepower (Garrett rating)
Turbine inlet: T25 manifold flange

Notes

Garrett also builds the G25-550 with 0.72 or 0.92 A/R V-band housings, and in reverse rotation
The Garrett speed sensor kit is sold separately
Garrett states that running above 185,000 rpm is at the owner’s risk and can cause damage and premature failure
Performance depends on the engine, its supporting modifications and the calibration

About Garrett

Garrett Motion has turbocharged engines since 1955, when its T15 was matched to the Caterpillar D9 crawler, and in 1962 a Garrett turbocharger went into the Oldsmobile Jetfire Turbo Rocket, the first turbocharged production car. Garrett has supplied turbocharging in Formula 1 with Scuderia Ferrari, the FIA World Rally Championship and the 24 Hours of Le Mans. It has operated as a stand-alone company since 2018, and its technology is fitted to around 150 million vehicles worldwide.

The Bulletproof Automotive website contains many thousands of products purchased in multiple different currencies. All of the prices are entered manually and accurately at the time of entry. Due to the consistently fluctuating international exchange rates, at times prices may not be able to be honored at their original intended rate. Shipping Policy

Items that are in stock in the US, either at Bulletproof’s warehouse or at a supplier’s warehouse, are generally delivered within 7-10 days. Special order items from overseas take considerably longer. As a courtesy Bulletproof offers delivery estimates to our customers which take into consideration manufacturer availability and shipping schedule. These estimates represent our best guess based on previous orders from the manufacturer and do not in any way imply a guaranteed delivery window. Many manufacturers work in a “just in time” inventory system and often take 2-20+ weeks to produce an item once an order is submitted. All deliverable items are then sent to our Japanese warehouse. Bulletproof ships a minimum of one full ocean freight container every month from Japan, oftentimes more than one a month. Ocean freight takes an average of 4 weeks. Typically it breaks down to one week in Japan for paperwork and customs, two weeks by boat and one week in US customs/clearance. Due to the wide number of variables between manufacturer and shipping schedules, delivery estimates are simply just that – estimates. We attempt to estimate conservatively and we usually deliver faster than our estimates suggest. It is not Bulletproof’s policy to guarantee delivery time of any special order item, this is impossible for us to do. By ordering you acknowledge that there is no required delivery ETA and an order may not be canceled or altered due to manufacturing or shipping delays, all ETA’s are provided as a best guess only. BP Pricing Difference

We do pricing a little differently on our JDM brands and we believe in making things simple and clear. No hidden fees or surcharges. Every price you see includes the shipping cost to our office in Los Angeles, California and all the associated taxes/duties/fees for bringing the products into the US. The only shipping you ever pay is from our facility in the US to your location. Be wary of resellers that don’t include the cost of international shipping in their pricing on JDM parts. While we believe we’ll always have the lowest all-in price on JDM products, we offer a price match guarantee for all authentic parts purchased from authorized dealers as well. For many international customers, it’s much more affordable to ship from the USA than from Japan directly, as the air freight and ocean freight costs are typically much less. However, for customers looking to ship directly from Japan outside of North America, or domestically in Japan, we can provide pricing specifically for that scenario. Please do not hesitate to contact us with any pricing questions or concerns. Please email us at sales@bulletproofautomotive.com with any inquiries.
