What is included with the G25-550 Super Core?

The center housing rotating assembly with the 0.70 A/R compressor housing fitted, plus the oil restrictor and water fittings Garrett lists for the G25. Garrett specifies a -4AN restrictor with a 1mm orifice to supply the recommended 40 psi of oil pressure. The turbine housing and speed sensor are separate purchases.

Which turbine housing should I pair with the G25-550 Super Core?

Pick by how the engine controls boost and how early it needs to spool. The 0.49 A/R T25 internal wastegate housing suits smaller engines that want fast response, the 0.72 A/R is the middle choice, and the 0.92 A/R trades some response for top-end flow. Free-float versions of the G25-550 Super Core housings need an external wastegate.

How much horsepower can a G25-550 make?

Garrett lists 300 to 550 horsepower on 1.4L to 3.0L engines. The figure is derived from compressor choke flow and is a potential flywheel number, not a promise, so real output depends on boost, fuel, intercooling and calibration. Builds aiming much past 550 horsepower should look at the G25-660 instead.

Should I buy the G25-550 or the G-Series II G25-585?

Both use a 48mm compressor inducer and the same turbine and housings. Garrett says G-Series II compressor aero gives up to 10 percent more flow at peak pressure ratio and turbo speed, and rates it to 585 horsepower. The first-generation G25-550 suits a builder whose power target sits comfortably under 550 horsepower.

Is the G25-550 a standard or reverse rotation core?

Standard rotation. This part number, 858161-5002S, is the core for a conventional single-turbo layout. Garrett makes a separate reverse-rotation G25-550 super core for mirrored twin-turbo installs, and the two use different turbine housings, so confirm the rotation before ordering housings or manifolds.

Description

Garrett G25-550 Super Core, 48mm Standard Rotation

Garrett’s G25-550 Super Core is the 48mm compressor version of the first-generation G25, supplied as the center housing rotating assembly with its compressor housing and set up for standard rotation. Garrett rates it for 300 to 550 horsepower across 1.4L to 3.0L, and the G25 turbine kits give it a spread of exhaust options, from a 0.49 A/R T25 internal wastegate housing for quick spool to free-float V-band housings for external gate builds. It fits a tuned 2.0L or 2.5L four-cylinder aimed at the middle of that range; a stock engine will not use it, and a target well past 550 horsepower belongs on the 54mm G25-660.

Turbine Wheel

The turbine wheel is cast in Mar-M alloy and rated to 1050C (1922F), with new aerodynamics that Garrett says flow 15 to 20 percent more than the GTX wheel at a peak efficiency of 74 percent. The V-band joint between center housing and turbine housing lets a non-wastegated housing be clocked through 360 degrees.

Features

48mm compressor wheel, 65 trim, rated by Garrett at 80 percent peak efficiency
One-piece center housing and backplate with twin piston rings on each side of the shaft
Fully machined speed sensor and pressure ports
Supplied with a -4AN oil restrictor fitting with a 1mm orifice and water fittings

Specifications

Compressor inducer and exducer: 48mm and 60mm
Compressor trim and A/R: 65 trim, 0.70 A/R
Turbine inducer and exducer: 54mm and 49mm
Turbine trim: 84
Maximum compressor efficiency: 80 percent
Maximum turbocharger speed: 185,000 rpm
Rotation: Standard

What’s Included

G25-550 standard rotation super core with compressor housing fitted
Oil restrictor and water fittings

Applications

The G25-550 Super Core is not vehicle specific. Garrett sizes it by engine and output:

Engine displacement: 1.4L to 3.0L
Power range: 300 to 550 horsepower (Garrett rating)
Standard-rotation turbine kits: 0.49 A/R T25, 0.72 and 0.92 A/R V-band internal wastegate; 0.72 and 0.92 A/R V-band free float

Notes

The turbine housing is not included; Garrett lists G25 turbine housing kits for standard rotation
The Garrett speed sensor kit is sold separately
Garrett states that running above 185,000 rpm is at the owner’s risk and can cause premature failure

Shipping Policy

Items that are in stock in the US, either at Bulletproof’s warehouse or at a supplier’s warehouse, are generally delivered within 7-10 days. Special order items from overseas take considerably longer. As a courtesy Bulletproof offers delivery estimates to our customers which take into consideration manufacturer availability and shipping schedule. These estimates represent our best guess based on previous orders from the manufacturer and do not in any way imply a guaranteed delivery window. Many manufacturers work in a “just in time” inventory system and often take 2-20+ weeks to produce an item once an order is submitted. All deliverable items are then sent to our Japanese warehouse. Bulletproof ships a minimum of one full ocean freight container every month from Japan, oftentimes more than one a month. Ocean freight takes an average of 4 weeks. Typically it breaks down to one week in Japan for paperwork and customs, two weeks by boat and one week in US customs/clearance. Due to the wide number of variables between manufacturer and shipping schedules, delivery estimates are simply just that – estimates. We attempt to estimate conservatively and we usually deliver faster than our estimates suggest. It is not Bulletproof’s policy to guarantee delivery time of any special order item, this is impossible for us to do. By ordering you acknowledge that there is no required delivery ETA and an order may not be canceled or altered due to manufacturing or shipping delays, all ETA’s are provided as a best guess only. BP Pricing Difference

We do pricing a little differently on our JDM brands and we believe in making things simple and clear. No hidden fees or surcharges. Every price you see includes the shipping cost to our office in Los Angeles, California and all the associated taxes/duties/fees for bringing the products into the US. The only shipping you ever pay is from our facility in the US to your location. Be wary of resellers that don’t include the cost of international shipping in their pricing on JDM parts. While we believe we’ll always have the lowest all-in price on JDM products, we offer a price match guarantee for all authentic parts purchased from authorized dealers as well. For many international customers, it’s much more affordable to ship from the USA than from Japan directly, as the air freight and ocean freight costs are typically much less. However, for customers looking to ship directly from Japan outside of North America, or domestically in Japan, we can provide pricing specifically for that scenario. Please do not hesitate to contact us with any pricing questions or concerns. Please email us at sales@bulletproofautomotive.com with any inquiries.
