What power range does the GXR55-94 Super Core cover?

Garrett lists the GXR55-94 Super Core at 1400 to 2700 horsepower on engines from 3.0L to 12.0L. The figure is calculated from compressor choke flow, so it represents potential flywheel horsepower, and the real output depends on fuel, boost, intercooling and calibration.

Should I choose the GXR55-94 or the GXR57-94?

Both use the same 94.9mm by 149mm compressor and share the 1400 to 2700 horsepower rating. The GXR57-94 adds a larger 118mm by 112mm turbine with G57 V-band housings, while the GXR55-94 keeps the 112mm by 106mm turbine and the G55 housings, including T6 inlet versions.

How does it compare with the G55-2250?

Garrett quotes 24 percent more compressor flow for the GXR55-94 than for the G55-2250, together with improved pressure ratio capability and higher efficiency at high flow. Garrett lists G55 turbine housings for it, so the exhaust side of a G55 build can carry over.

What does the core need to run?

A G55 turbine housing in 1.00 to 1.40 A/R, an external wastegate because every listed housing is free float, oil and water plumbing, and a calibration. Garrett also advises a speed sensor, sold separately, since the maximum shaft speed is 75,000 rpm.

What does the 9406 reference mean?

It is the frame size code Garrett publishes for the GXR55-94, made from the 94.9mm compressor inducer and the 106mm turbine exducer. Codes in this style help compare cores across makers, though the Garrett compressor map remains the better guide to sizing.

Description

Garrett G-XRace GXR55-94 Super Core, 94.9mm Inducer, 149mm Exducer

Garrett’s GXR55-94 Super Core puts a 94.9mm inducer on the 149mm exducer XBoost wheel and runs it against the 112mm by 106mm GXR55 turbine, the 9406 frame in Garrett’s coding. Garrett rates it at 1400 to 2700 horsepower on 3.0L to 12.0L engines, and its comparison is with the G55-2250, against which it flows 24 percent more. That positions it for a large-displacement build already beyond 2000 horsepower that wants to stay on G55 turbine housings. A builder who needs the same compressor with more turbine flow should look at the GXR57-94.

Construction

As with the other 149mm GXR55 cores, the center housing and backplate are one aluminum piece and the speed sensor port is flange style. Garrett describes the design as patented and publishes both a compressor map and an overlay for comparison.

Features

94.9mm inducer on a 149mm exducer XBoost wheel
24 percent more compressor flow than the G55-2250
One-piece aluminum center housing and backplate
Accepts six G55 turbine housing kits

Specifications

Garrett turbo reference: 9406
Compressor inducer and exducer: 94.9mm and 149mm
Turbine inducer and exducer: 112mm and 106mm
Maximum turbocharger speed: 75,000 rpm
Horsepower rating: Up to 2700 (Garrett rating)

Applications

The GXR55-94 Super Core is not vehicle specific. Garrett sizes it by engine and output:

Engine displacement: 3.0L to 12.0L
Power range: 1400 to 2700 horsepower (Garrett rating)
Garrett turbine kits: G55 1.24 and 1.40 A/R V-band inlet, or 1.00, 1.12, 1.24 and 1.40 A/R T6 inlet, all V-band outlet

Notes

The turbine housing is not included; Garrett’s matching G55 turbine housing kits are sold separately
An external wastegate is required, because every turbine housing Garrett lists for this core is free float
The Garrett speed sensor kit is sold separately
Garrett states that running above 75,000 rpm is at the owner’s risk and can result in damage and premature failure
The same compressor on the larger GXR57 turbine is listed as the GXR57-94

Additional Information

The Bulletproof Automotive website contains many thousands of products purchased in multiple different currencies. All of the prices are entered manually and accurately at the time of entry. Due to the consistently fluctuating international exchange rates, at times prices may not be able to be honored at their original intended rate. Shipping Policy

Items that are in stock in the US, either at Bulletproof’s warehouse or at a supplier’s warehouse, are generally delivered within 7-10 days. Special order items from overseas take considerably longer. As a courtesy Bulletproof offers delivery estimates to our customers which take into consideration manufacturer availability and shipping schedule. These estimates represent our best guess based on previous orders from the manufacturer and do not in any way imply a guaranteed delivery window. Many manufacturers work in a “just in time” inventory system and often take 2-20+ weeks to produce an item once an order is submitted. All deliverable items are then sent to our Japanese warehouse. Bulletproof ships a minimum of one full ocean freight container every month from Japan, oftentimes more than one a month. Ocean freight takes an average of 4 weeks. Typically it breaks down to one week in Japan for paperwork and customs, two weeks by boat and one week in US customs/clearance. Due to the wide number of variables between manufacturer and shipping schedules, delivery estimates are simply just that – estimates. We attempt to estimate conservatively and we usually deliver faster than our estimates suggest. It is not Bulletproof’s policy to guarantee delivery time of any special order item, this is impossible for us to do. By ordering you acknowledge that there is no required delivery ETA and an order may not be canceled or altered due to manufacturing or shipping delays, all ETA’s are provided as a best guess only. BP Pricing Difference

We do pricing a little differently on our JDM brands and we believe in making things simple and clear. No hidden fees or surcharges. Every price you see includes the shipping cost to our office in Los Angeles, California and all the associated taxes/duties/fees for bringing the products into the US. The only shipping you ever pay is from our facility in the US to your location. Be wary of resellers that don’t include the cost of international shipping in their pricing on JDM parts. While we believe we’ll always have the lowest all-in price on JDM products, we offer a price match guarantee for all authentic parts purchased from authorized dealers as well. For many international customers, it’s much more affordable to ship from the USA than from Japan directly, as the air freight and ocean freight costs are typically much less. However, for customers looking to ship directly from Japan outside of North America, or domestically in Japan, we can provide pricing specifically for that scenario. Please do not hesitate to contact us with any pricing questions or concerns. Please email us at sales@bulletproofautomotive.com with any inquiries.
