How much horsepower is the GXR55-91 Super Core rated for?

Garrett rates the GXR55-91 Super Core at 1300 to 2600 horsepower on engines from 3.0L to 12.0L. That number comes from the choke flow of the compressor map and represents potential flywheel horsepower, so the engine package and calibration decide where a build finishes.

How does it compare with the G55-2100?

Garrett quotes 30 percent more compressor flow for the GXR55-91 than for the G55-2100, with improved pressure ratio capability and higher efficiency at high flow. The GXR55 also uses a one-piece aluminum center housing and backplate, which Garrett says cuts weight.

Where does the GXR55-91 sit against the GXR55-88 and GXR55-94?

Between them. All three use the 149mm exducer, the 112mm by 106mm turbine and the 75,000 rpm limit. The inducer grows from 88.9mm to 91.9mm to 94.9mm, and the top of the Garrett rating rises from 2500 to 2600 to 2700 horsepower.

Which turbine housings can I use?

Garrett lists six G55 housings: 1.24 and 1.40 A/R with a V-band inlet, and 1.00, 1.12, 1.24 and 1.40 A/R with a T6 inlet. Every one has a V-band outlet and needs an external wastegate. The housing is not included with the super core.

Is a speed sensor needed?

Garrett recommends one. The maximum allowable shaft speed is 75,000 rpm, and use above it is at the risk of the owner and can cause premature failure. The flange-style port accepts the Garrett sensor kit, which is sold separately, so the tuner can log shaft speed.

Description

Garrett G-XRace GXR55-91 Super Core, 91.9mm Inducer, 149mm Exducer

Garrett’s GXR55-91 Super Core steps the GXR55 inducer up to 91.9mm on a 149mm exducer XBoost wheel, matched to the 112mm by 106mm GXR55 turbine and coded 9106. Garrett rates it at 1300 to 2600 horsepower for 3.0L to 12.0L engines and quotes 30 percent more compressor flow than the G55-2100. It fills the gap between the 88.9mm and 94.9mm cores for a builder with no 88mm inducer limit who wants more airflow on the same G55 housings. With a 1300 horsepower floor in Garrett’s range, it is not a sensible choice for a moderate build.

Construction

The GXR55-91 uses a one-piece aluminum center housing and backplate, which Garrett says reduces weight, and a flange-style port for a speed sensor. Garrett describes the design as patented and publishes a compressor map and an overlay against the G-Series wheel it is compared with.

Features

91.9mm inducer and 149mm exducer XBoost compressor wheel
30 percent more compressor flow than the G55-2100
One-piece aluminum center housing and backplate
Flange-style speed sensor port

Specifications

Garrett turbo reference: 9106
Compressor inducer and exducer: 91.9mm and 149mm
Turbine inducer and exducer: 112mm and 106mm
Maximum turbocharger speed: 75,000 rpm
Horsepower rating: Up to 2600 (Garrett rating)

Applications

The GXR55-91 Super Core is not vehicle specific. Garrett sizes it by engine and output:

Engine displacement: 3.0L to 12.0L
Power range: 1300 to 2600 horsepower (Garrett rating)
Garrett turbine kits: G55 1.24 and 1.40 A/R V-band inlet, or 1.00, 1.12, 1.24 and 1.40 A/R T6 inlet, all V-band outlet

Notes

The turbine housing is not included; Garrett’s matching G55 turbine housing kits are sold separately
An external wastegate is required, because every turbine housing Garrett lists for this core is free float
The Garrett speed sensor kit is sold separately
Garrett states that running above 75,000 rpm is at the owner’s risk and can result in damage and premature failure
Garrett asks buyers to verify class rules before purchasing a core for an inducer-limited class
The rest of the GXR55 range is listed separately

Additional Information

The Bulletproof Automotive website contains many thousands of products purchased in multiple different currencies. All of the prices are entered manually and accurately at the time of entry. Due to the consistently fluctuating international exchange rates, at times prices may not be able to be honored at their original intended rate. Rest assured that any order you place on line will be at zero risk to you in this area. If in the event your order cannot be fulfilled at the original intended website price we will offer you a 100% refund, no questions asked. Shipping Policy

Items that are in stock in the US, either at Bulletproof’s warehouse or at a supplier’s warehouse, are generally delivered within 7-10 days. Special order items from overseas take considerably longer. As a courtesy Bulletproof offers delivery estimates to our customers which take into consideration manufacturer availability and shipping schedule. These estimates represent our best guess based on previous orders from the manufacturer and do not in any way imply a guaranteed delivery window. Many manufacturers work in a “just in time” inventory system and often take 2-20+ weeks to produce an item once an order is submitted. All deliverable items are then sent to our Japanese warehouse. Bulletproof ships a minimum of one full ocean freight container every month from Japan, oftentimes more than one a month. Ocean freight takes an average of 4 weeks. Typically it breaks down to one week in Japan for paperwork and customs, two weeks by boat and one week in US customs/clearance. Due to the wide number of variables between manufacturer and shipping schedules, delivery estimates are simply just that – estimates. We attempt to estimate conservatively and we usually deliver faster than our estimates suggest. It is not Bulletproof’s policy to guarantee delivery time of any special order item, this is impossible for us to do. By ordering you acknowledge that there is no required delivery ETA and an order may not be canceled or altered due to manufacturing or shipping delays, all ETA’s are provided as a best guess only. BP Pricing Difference

We do pricing a little differently on our JDM brands and we believe in making things simple and clear. No hidden fees or surcharges. Every price you see includes the shipping cost to our office in Los Angeles, California and all the associated taxes/duties/fees for bringing the products into the US. The only shipping you ever pay is from our facility in the US to your location. Be wary of resellers that don’t include the cost of international shipping in their pricing on JDM parts. While we believe we’ll always have the lowest all-in price on JDM products, we offer a price match guarantee for all authentic parts purchased from authorized dealers as well. For many international customers, it’s much more affordable to ship from the USA than from Japan directly, as the air freight and ocean freight costs are typically much less. However, for customers looking to ship directly from Japan outside of North America, or domestically in Japan, we can provide pricing specifically for that scenario. Please do not hesitate to contact us with any pricing questions or concerns. Please email us at sales@bulletproofautomotive.com with any inquiries.
