How does the GXR47-80 Super Core compare with the GXR47-76?

The GXR47-80 Super Core has an 80.9mm inducer against 76.6mm, and Garrett rates it at 1800 horsepower against 1700. Turbine wheel, housings, speed limit and construction are shared. Pick the GXR47-76 when a class caps the inducer at 76.6mm, and the GXR47-80 when it does not.

116mm or 123mm exducer: which GXR47-80 should I buy?

Garrett gives both the same 80.9mm inducer and the same 1800 horsepower rating, and publishes a compressor map for each. The exducer changes the shape of the map, so the right one is whichever places the airflow and boost target of the engine in the more efficient region. A tuner can make that call from the maps.

What horsepower range does Garrett list?

500 to 1800 horsepower on engines from 2.5L to 10.0L. Garrett calculates the rating from the choke flow of the compressor map, which represents potential flywheel horsepower. A fuel system, intercooler and calibration sized for the target decide how much of that the engine actually makes.

Which turbine housings fit?

Garrett lists four G47 housings: 0.96, 1.08, 1.23 and 1.39 A/R, each with a T6 inlet and V-band outlet. All four are external wastegate housings, so the exhaust manifold must carry a T6 flange and a wastegate port. The housing is not included with the core.

Is a speed sensor included?

No. The flange-style port is machined and ready, and the Garrett speed sensor kit is a separate purchase. Garrett sets 102,500 rpm as the maximum allowable shaft speed, and a sensor is the way to prove the turbocharger stays under it during a pass.

Description

Garrett G-XRace GXR47-80 Super Core, 116mm Compressor Exducer

Garrett’s GXR47-80 Super Core in its 116mm exducer form raises the GXR47 inducer to 80.9mm, which lifts Garrett’s rating to 1800 horsepower from the 1700 of the 76.6mm cores. The turbine stays the 93mm by 88mm GXR47 wheel, the frame code is 8088, and Garrett gives a range of 500 to 1800 horsepower on 2.5L to 10.0L engines with 12 percent more compressor flow than the G47-1650. It is the GXR47 to buy when there is no 76.6mm inducer rule to meet and the engine can use the extra airflow. Where a class does cap the inducer at 76.6mm, it does not belong on the car.

Construction

A one-piece aluminum center housing and backplate keeps weight down, and the flange-style port takes a speed sensor. Garrett describes the GXR47 design as patented and publishes a compressor map for this 116mm wheel along with an overlay for comparison.

Features

80.9mm inducer and 116mm exducer XBoost compressor wheel
12 percent more compressor flow than the G47-1650
One-piece aluminum center housing and backplate
Takes G47 T6 inlet turbine housings

Specifications

Garrett turbo reference: 8088
Compressor inducer and exducer: 80.9mm and 116mm
Turbine inducer and exducer: 93mm and 88mm
Maximum turbocharger speed: 102,500 rpm
Horsepower rating: Up to 1800 (Garrett rating)

Applications

The GXR47-80 Super Core is not vehicle specific. Garrett sizes it by engine and output:

Engine displacement: 2.5L to 10.0L
Power range: 500 to 1800 horsepower (Garrett rating)
Garrett turbine kits: G47 0.96, 1.08, 1.23 and 1.39 A/R, T6 inlet, V-band outlet, external wastegate

Notes

The turbine housing is not included; Garrett’s matching G47 turbine housing kits are sold separately
An external wastegate is required, because every turbine housing Garrett lists for this core is free float
The Garrett speed sensor kit is sold separately
Garrett states that running above 102,500 rpm is at the owner’s risk and can result in damage and premature failure
The same core is also built with a 123mm compressor exducer

Additional Information

The Bulletproof Automotive website contains many thousands of products purchased in multiple different currencies. All of the prices are entered manually and accurately at the time of entry. Due to the consistently fluctuating international exchange rates, at times prices may not be able to be honored at their original intended rate. Rest assured that any order you place on line will be at zero risk to you in this area. If in the event your order cannot be fulfilled at the original intended website price we will offer you a 100% refund, no questions asked. Shipping Policy

Items that are in stock in the US, either at Bulletproof’s warehouse or at a supplier’s warehouse, are generally delivered within 7-10 days. Special order items from overseas take considerably longer. As a courtesy Bulletproof offers delivery estimates to our customers which take into consideration manufacturer availability and shipping schedule. These estimates represent our best guess based on previous orders from the manufacturer and do not in any way imply a guaranteed delivery window. Many manufacturers work in a “just in time” inventory system and often take 2-20+ weeks to produce an item once an order is submitted. All deliverable items are then sent to our Japanese warehouse. Bulletproof ships a minimum of one full ocean freight container every month from Japan, oftentimes more than one a month. Ocean freight takes an average of 4 weeks. Typically it breaks down to one week in Japan for paperwork and customs, two weeks by boat and one week in US customs/clearance. Due to the wide number of variables between manufacturer and shipping schedules, delivery estimates are simply just that – estimates. We attempt to estimate conservatively and we usually deliver faster than our estimates suggest. It is not Bulletproof’s policy to guarantee delivery time of any special order item, this is impossible for us to do. By ordering you acknowledge that there is no required delivery ETA and an order may not be canceled or altered due to manufacturing or shipping delays, all ETA’s are provided as a best guess only. BP Pricing Difference

We do pricing a little differently on our JDM brands and we believe in making things simple and clear. No hidden fees or surcharges. Every price you see includes the shipping cost to our office in Los Angeles, California and all the associated taxes/duties/fees for bringing the products into the US. The only shipping you ever pay is from our facility in the US to your location. Be wary of resellers that don’t include the cost of international shipping in their pricing on JDM parts. While we believe we’ll always have the lowest all-in price on JDM products, we offer a price match guarantee for all authentic parts purchased from authorized dealers as well. For many international customers, it’s much more affordable to ship from the USA than from Japan directly, as the air freight and ocean freight costs are typically much less. However, for customers looking to ship directly from Japan outside of North America, or domestically in Japan, we can provide pricing specifically for that scenario. Please do not hesitate to contact us with any pricing questions or concerns. Please email us at sales@bulletproofautomotive.com with any inquiries.
