Is the GXR45-73 Super Core an upgrade over the G45-1350?

Yes, by Garrett figures. The GXR45-73 Super Core flows 11 percent more than the G45-1350 and has a higher pressure ratio capability. It uses the same twin-scroll T4 and V-band turbine housings as the G-Series, so a G45 owner can change the core and keep the exhaust side.

What does the GXR45-73 support in horsepower?

Garrett gives 750 to 1550 horsepower on engines from 2.0L to 8.0L. The upper figure is calculated from compressor choke flow and represents potential flywheel horsepower, so the engine still needs the fuel, intercooling and calibration to use the flow the compressor offers.

Can I run it in a class with a map groove rule?

With the optional housing, yes. The core ships with a housing that has no map groove. For classes with a 0.25 inch map groove rule, such as PanAm, Garrett sells compressor housing 934809-0010. Check the class rules before buying either part.

Which turbine A/R should I choose?

Garrett lists G45 housings in 1.01, 1.15, 1.28 and 1.44 A/R, in V-band and divided T4 inlet forms. As a general rule, the lower A/R values bring boost in earlier on a smaller engine, and the higher values free up the exhaust for a large engine at high rpm.

Does it need an external wastegate and a speed sensor?

It needs the wastegate, because every G45 housing for it is free float. The speed sensor is a strong recommendation rather than a requirement: Garrett sets a 109,000 rpm limit, and the sensor, sold separately, lets the tuner confirm shaft speed.

Description

Garrett G-XRace GXR45-73 Super Core, 73.9mm Inducer, 82mm Turbine

Garrett’s GXR45-73 Super Core is the 73.9mm inducer version of the GXR45, with a 102mm exducer XBoost compressor over the 89mm by 82mm G45 turbine. Garrett compares it with the G45-1350 and quotes 11 percent more compressor flow, a smaller gain than the 29 percent Garrett gives the GXR45-67 over the G45-1125. The rating is 750 to 1550 horsepower on 2.0L to 8.0L engines. For a 73.9mm inducer class or a G45-1350 owner wanting more flow on the same housing, it is a direct fit; for a build that needs response below 750 horsepower, it is the wrong tool.

Map Groove Option

The supplied compressor housing has no map groove, which suits classes without a groove rule. Garrett offers a separate 0.25 inch map groove housing, part 934809-0010, for classes that require one, such as PanAm, so one core can be set up for either rule book.

Features

73.9mm compressor inducer with a 102mm exducer
11 percent more compressor flow than the G45-1350, according to Garrett
Enhanced pressure ratio capability for higher boost pressure
Lightweight aluminum backplate

Specifications

Compressor inducer and exducer: 73.9mm and 102mm
Compressor trim and housing A/R: 52 and 0.85
Turbine inducer and exducer: 89mm and 82mm
Turbine trim: 84
Maximum turbocharger speed: 109,000 rpm

Applications

The GXR45-73 Super Core is not vehicle specific. Garrett sizes it by engine and output:

Engine displacement: 2.0L to 8.0L
Power range: 750 to 1550 horsepower (Garrett rating)
Garrett turbine kits: G45 1.01, 1.15, 1.28 and 1.44 A/R, V-band or divided T4 inlet, V-band outlet, free float

Notes

The turbine housing is not included; Garrett’s matching G45 turbine housing kits are sold separately
An external wastegate is required, because every turbine housing Garrett lists for this core is free float
The Garrett speed sensor kit is sold separately
Garrett states that running above 109,000 rpm is at the owner’s risk and can result in damage and premature failure
Garrett’s optional GXR45-73 map groove compressor housing is sold separately
Garrett asks buyers to verify class rules before purchasing a core for an inducer-limited class

Additional Information

The Bulletproof Automotive website contains many thousands of products purchased in multiple different currencies. All of the prices are entered manually and accurately at the time of entry. Due to the consistently fluctuating international exchange rates, at times prices may not be able to be honored at their original intended rate. Shipping Policy

Items that are in stock in the US, either at Bulletproof’s warehouse or at a supplier’s warehouse, are generally delivered within 7-10 days. Special order items from overseas take considerably longer. As a courtesy Bulletproof offers delivery estimates to our customers which take into consideration manufacturer availability and shipping schedule. These estimates represent our best guess based on previous orders from the manufacturer and do not in any way imply a guaranteed delivery window. Many manufacturers work in a “just in time” inventory system and often take 2-20+ weeks to produce an item once an order is submitted. All deliverable items are then sent to our Japanese warehouse. Bulletproof ships a minimum of one full ocean freight container every month from Japan, oftentimes more than one a month. Ocean freight takes an average of 4 weeks. Typically it breaks down to one week in Japan for paperwork and customs, two weeks by boat and one week in US customs/clearance. Due to the wide number of variables between manufacturer and shipping schedules, delivery estimates are simply just that – estimates. We attempt to estimate conservatively and we usually deliver faster than our estimates suggest. It is not Bulletproof’s policy to guarantee delivery time of any special order item, this is impossible for us to do. By ordering you acknowledge that there is no required delivery ETA and an order may not be canceled or altered due to manufacturing or shipping delays, all ETA’s are provided as a best guess only. BP Pricing Difference

We do pricing a little differently on our JDM brands and we believe in making things simple and clear. No hidden fees or surcharges. Every price you see includes the shipping cost to our office in Los Angeles, California and all the associated taxes/duties/fees for bringing the products into the US. The only shipping you ever pay is from our facility in the US to your location. Be wary of resellers that don’t include the cost of international shipping in their pricing on JDM parts. While we believe we’ll always have the lowest all-in price on JDM products, we offer a price match guarantee for all authentic parts purchased from authorized dealers as well. For many international customers, it’s much more affordable to ship from the USA than from Japan directly, as the air freight and ocean freight costs are typically much less. However, for customers looking to ship directly from Japan outside of North America, or domestically in Japan, we can provide pricing specifically for that scenario. Please do not hesitate to contact us with any pricing questions or concerns. Please email us at sales@bulletproofautomotive.com with any inquiries.
