Is the GXR42-68 Super Core right for a 68.9mm inducer class?

Yes. The compressor inducer measures 68.9mm, and Garrett built the GXR42-68 Super Core specifically for drag racing classes with that inducer limit. Garrett advises checking the rules of the class before buying, because sanctioning bodies revise measurement methods and limits.

How much power does Garrett rate the GXR42-68 for?

Garrett lists 650 to 1400 horsepower on engines from 2.0L to 7.0L. That rating is derived from compressor choke flow and represents potential flywheel horsepower. Inside a class, the inducer limit is fixed, so boost, fuel and the calibration set how close an engine gets to the top of that range.

Which turbine housings does Garrett list?

Six G42 free-float kits: 1.01, 1.15 and 1.28 A/R with a V-band inlet, and the same sizes with a divided T4 inlet, all with a V-band outlet. A smaller engine or a car that needs quick spool on the launch leans toward 1.01, while a large engine at high rpm suits 1.28.

Should I buy the GXR42-68 or the GXR42-72?

Let the class rules decide. The 68.9mm inducer exists for classes that limit inducer size, while the GXR42-72 brings a 72.9mm inducer and a higher 700 to 1450 horsepower rating for classes with a looser limit or none. Both use the same turbine wheel and housing choices.

Do I need a speed sensor?

Garrett strongly suggests one. The maximum allowable shaft speed is 109,000 rpm, and running past it is at the risk of the owner. A sensor installed in the compressor housing shows the tuner real shaft speed, and the Garrett sensor kit is sold separately.

Description

Garrett G-XRace GXR42-68 Super Core, 68.9mm Inducer, 75mm Turbine

Garrett’s GXR42-68 Super Core is aimed at drag racing classes that cap the compressor inducer at 68.9mm, pairing that inducer with a 102mm exducer and an 82mm by 75mm turbine wheel. Garrett rates it at 650 to 1400 horsepower and sizes it for engines from 2.0L to 7.0L, which places it between the GXR40 and GXR45 frames. Its XBoost compressor raises pressure ratio capability, so a class car limited on inducer size can still chase boost. For an unrestricted build with no inducer rule, the larger-inducer GXR42-72 makes more power from the same frame; for a car under 650 horsepower, the low end of Garrett’s range, it is the wrong size.

Frame and Housings

The GXR42 frame uses the same twin-scroll T4 and V-band turbine housings as the G-Series G42, which Garrett describes as an easy upgrade path. The compressor housing is 0.85 A/R, the backplate is aluminum, and Garrett publishes a flange diagram for the GXR42 and GXR45 frames to help with manifold and piping layout.

Features

68.9mm compressor inducer and 102mm exducer for inducer-limited classes
XBoost compressor for higher boost pressure and efficiency at high flow rates
Lightweight aluminum backplate
Shares G42 turbine housings, so an existing G42 exhaust side carries over

Specifications

Compressor inducer and exducer: 68.9mm and 102mm
Compressor trim and housing A/R: 45 and 0.85
Turbine inducer and exducer: 82mm and 75mm
Turbine trim: 84
Maximum turbocharger speed: 109,000 rpm
Rotation: Standard

Applications

The GXR42-68 Super Core is not vehicle specific. Garrett sizes it by engine and output:

Engine displacement: 2.0L to 7.0L
Power range: 650 to 1400 horsepower (Garrett rating)
Garrett turbine kits: G42 1.01, 1.15 and 1.28 A/R, V-band or divided T4 inlet, V-band outlet, free float

Notes

The turbine housing is not included; Garrett’s matching G42 turbine housing kits are sold separately
An external wastegate is required, because every turbine housing Garrett lists for this core is free float
The Garrett speed sensor kit is sold separately
Garrett states that running above 109,000 rpm is at the owner’s risk and can result in damage and premature failure
Garrett asks buyers to verify class rules before purchasing a core for an inducer-limited class

Additional Information

The Bulletproof Automotive website contains many thousands of products purchased in multiple different currencies. All of the prices are entered manually and accurately at the time of entry. Due to the consistently fluctuating international exchange rates, at times prices may not be able to be honored at their original intended rate. Rest assured that any order you place on line will be at zero risk to you in this area. If in the event your order cannot be fulfilled at the original intended website price we will offer you a 100% refund, no questions asked. Shipping Policy

Items that are in stock in the US, either at Bulletproof’s warehouse or at a supplier’s warehouse, are generally delivered within 7-10 days. Special order items from overseas take considerably longer. As a courtesy Bulletproof offers delivery estimates to our customers which take into consideration manufacturer availability and shipping schedule. These estimates represent our best guess based on previous orders from the manufacturer and do not in any way imply a guaranteed delivery window. Many manufacturers work in a “just in time” inventory system and often take 2-20+ weeks to produce an item once an order is submitted. All deliverable items are then sent to our Japanese warehouse. Bulletproof ships a minimum of one full ocean freight container every month from Japan, oftentimes more than one a month. Ocean freight takes an average of 4 weeks. Typically it breaks down to one week in Japan for paperwork and customs, two weeks by boat and one week in US customs/clearance. Due to the wide number of variables between manufacturer and shipping schedules, delivery estimates are simply just that – estimates. We attempt to estimate conservatively and we usually deliver faster than our estimates suggest. It is not Bulletproof’s policy to guarantee delivery time of any special order item, this is impossible for us to do. By ordering you acknowledge that there is no required delivery ETA and an order may not be canceled or altered due to manufacturing or shipping delays, all ETA’s are provided as a best guess only. BP Pricing Difference

We do pricing a little differently on our JDM brands and we believe in making things simple and clear. No hidden fees or surcharges. Every price you see includes the shipping cost to our office in Los Angeles, California and all the associated taxes/duties/fees for bringing the products into the US. The only shipping you ever pay is from our facility in the US to your location. Be wary of resellers that don’t include the cost of international shipping in their pricing on JDM parts. While we believe we’ll always have the lowest all-in price on JDM products, we offer a price match guarantee for all authentic parts purchased from authorized dealers as well. For many international customers, it’s much more affordable to ship from the USA than from Japan directly, as the air freight and ocean freight costs are typically much less. However, for customers looking to ship directly from Japan outside of North America, or domestically in Japan, we can provide pricing specifically for that scenario. Please do not hesitate to contact us with any pricing questions or concerns. Please email us at sales@bulletproofautomotive.com with any inquiries.
