What is the difference between the V-band and hose GXR38-64 Super Core?

Only the compressor outlet. This one ends in a V-band flange that clamps to a matching flange on the charge pipe, and the hose model takes a coupler. The wheels and turbine housing choices are identical, and Garrett publishes an overlay compressor map comparing airflow and pressure ratio between the two outlet designs.

Will the GXR38-64 suit a class with a 64.9mm inducer limit?

Yes. Its compressor inducer measures 64.9mm, and Garrett designed it for XWorld drag racing and other classes with that limit. Rules are revised from season to season, so Garrett asks every buyer to confirm the current regulations of the sanctioning body before ordering a core for a class car.

How much power will the GXR38-64 Super Core make?

Garrett rates the GXR38-64 Super Core at 500 to 1150 horsepower for engines between 2.0L and 5.5L. The figure comes from compressor choke flow and stands for potential flywheel horsepower, so fuel delivery, boost level, intercooling and the calibration decide what the engine produces on the dyno.

Which turbine housings fit this core?

Garrett pairs it with six G38 free-float housings: 0.85, 0.95 and 1.06 A/R with a V-band inlet, and the same three sizes with a divided T4 inlet. All three share a V-band outlet. The 0.85 A/R brings boost in sooner, and the 1.06 A/R trades some response for flow at high rpm.

What is the maximum shaft speed?

Garrett sets the limit at 125,000 rpm and states that running beyond it is at the risk of the owner and can lead to damage and early failure. A speed sensor in the compressor housing lets the tuner watch shaft speed in real time, and Garrett sells the sensor separately.

Description

Garrett G-XRace GXR38-64 Super Core, V-Band Compressor Outlet

Garrett’s GXR38-64 Super Core with a V-band compressor outlet is the version for a build that clamps its charge pipe to a flange instead of running a coupler at the turbocharger. It shares the hose model wheels, 64.9mm by 88mm and 74mm by 66mm. Garrett rates the frame at 500 to 1150 horsepower and lists it for engines from 2.0L to 5.5L, with XWorld drag racing named as a target class. An engine aiming well under 500 horsepower, the bottom of that range, is better served by a smaller turbocharger.

Compressor Stage

XBoost is the G-XRace compressor design. Garrett says it lifts the pressure ratio the wheel can reach, so the engine can run more boost, and that it holds efficiency at high flow for a cooler charge. The aluminum backplate trims weight, and Garrett cites U.S. patents including US9850911B2 for the design.

Features

V-band compressor outlet for a clamped charge pipe joint
XBoost compressor aerodynamics for higher boost capability and efficiency at high flow
Fully machined sensor port that accepts a Garrett speed sensor or the G-Smart module
Aluminum backplate to reduce turbocharger weight

Specifications

Garrett turbo reference: 6466
Compressor inducer and exducer: 64.9mm and 88mm
Turbine inducer and exducer: 74mm and 66mm
Compressor outlet: V-band
Maximum turbocharger speed: 125,000 rpm

Applications

The GXR38-64 Super Core is not vehicle specific. Garrett sizes it by engine and output:

Engine displacement: 2.0L to 5.5L
Power range: 500 to 1150 horsepower (Garrett rating)
Garrett turbine kits: G38 0.85, 0.95 and 1.06 A/R, V-band or divided T4 inlet, V-band outlet, free float

Notes

The turbine housing is not included; Garrett’s matching G38 turbine housing kits are sold separately
An external wastegate is required, because every turbine housing Garrett lists for this core is free float
The Garrett speed sensor kit is sold separately
Garrett states that running above 125,000 rpm is at the owner’s risk and can result in damage and premature failure
Garrett asks buyers to verify class rules before purchasing a core for an inducer-limited class
The same core is also built with a hose compressor outlet

The Bulletproof Automotive website contains many thousands of products purchased in multiple different currencies. All of the prices are entered manually and accurately at the time of entry. Due to the consistently fluctuating international exchange rates, at times prices may not be able to be honored at their original intended rate. Shipping Policy

Items that are in stock in the US, either at Bulletproof’s warehouse or at a supplier’s warehouse, are generally delivered within 7-10 days. Special order items from overseas take considerably longer. As a courtesy Bulletproof offers delivery estimates to our customers which take into consideration manufacturer availability and shipping schedule. These estimates represent our best guess based on previous orders from the manufacturer and do not in any way imply a guaranteed delivery window. Many manufacturers work in a “just in time” inventory system and often take 2-20+ weeks to produce an item once an order is submitted. All deliverable items are then sent to our Japanese warehouse. Bulletproof ships a minimum of one full ocean freight container every month from Japan, oftentimes more than one a month. Ocean freight takes an average of 4 weeks. Typically it breaks down to one week in Japan for paperwork and customs, two weeks by boat and one week in US customs/clearance. Due to the wide number of variables between manufacturer and shipping schedules, delivery estimates are simply just that – estimates. We attempt to estimate conservatively and we usually deliver faster than our estimates suggest. It is not Bulletproof’s policy to guarantee delivery time of any special order item, this is impossible for us to do. By ordering you acknowledge that there is no required delivery ETA and an order may not be canceled or altered due to manufacturing or shipping delays, all ETA’s are provided as a best guess only. BP Pricing Difference

We do pricing a little differently on our JDM brands and we believe in making things simple and clear. No hidden fees or surcharges. Every price you see includes the shipping cost to our office in Los Angeles, California and all the associated taxes/duties/fees for bringing the products into the US. The only shipping you ever pay is from our facility in the US to your location. Be wary of resellers that don’t include the cost of international shipping in their pricing on JDM parts. While we believe we’ll always have the lowest all-in price on JDM products, we offer a price match guarantee for all authentic parts purchased from authorized dealers as well. For many international customers, it’s much more affordable to ship from the USA than from Japan directly, as the air freight and ocean freight costs are typically much less. However, for customers looking to ship directly from Japan outside of North America, or domestically in Japan, we can provide pricing specifically for that scenario. Please do not hesitate to contact us with any pricing questions or concerns. Please email us at sales@bulletproofautomotive.com with any inquiries.
