Should I choose the hose or the V-band outlet GXR38-64 Super Core?

Pick the one that matches the charge piping on the engine. This version takes a coupler and clamp at the compressor outlet, while the V-band version needs a matching V-band flange. Wheels, frame and turbine housing options are shared, and Garrett publishes an overlay map that shows how airflow and pressure ratio differ between the two outlets.

How much horsepower is the GXR38-64 rated for?

Garrett rates the GXR38-64 at 500 to 1150 horsepower on 2.0L to 5.5L engines. The figure is calculated from the choke flow of the compressor map and represents potential flywheel horsepower. Garrett does not print a separate number for the hose outlet, so its overlay map is the best guide to where this version lands.

Does the core come with a turbine housing?

No. The GXR38-64 Super Core is the center section with the compressor housing fitted, and the turbine housing is bought on its own. Garrett lists six G38 housings for it in 0.85, 0.95 and 1.06 A/R, each with a V-band outlet and a choice of V-band inlet or divided T4 inlet.

Do I need an external wastegate?

Yes. Every turbine housing Garrett lists for this frame is a free-float design with no internal wastegate port, so boost is held by an external wastegate on the exhaust manifold ahead of the turbocharger. Size the gate for the exhaust flow and boost target of the engine rather than the turbocharger alone.

Which speed sensor fits the machined port?

Garrett names three choices: the G-Smart module and app, part 923586-0003, the street speed sensor kit with gauge, part 781328-0003, and the pro kit without a gauge, part 781328-0004. The maximum shaft speed is 125,000 rpm, and a sensor lets the tuner keep the turbocharger under that limit.

Description

Garrett G-XRace GXR38-64 Super Core, Hose Compressor Outlet

Garrett’s GXR38-64 Super Core in hose outlet form finishes the compressor housing in a plain outlet that takes a coupler and clamp, so it suits charge piping built around hose joints. Behind that outlet sits a 64.9mm inducer, 88mm exducer compressor wheel with Garrett’s XBoost aerodynamics, paired with a 74mm by 66mm turbine wheel. Garrett sizes the GXR38-64 for 2.0L to 5.5L engines across a 500 to 1150 horsepower range and drew it up for XWorld drag racing and other classes capped at a 64.9mm inducer. For a mild street engine it is far more turbocharger than needed.

XBoost Compressor

Garrett credits XBoost with a higher pressure ratio capability for more boost and better efficiency at high flow for a cooler, denser charge. The backplate of the GXR38-64 Super Core is aluminum to save weight. Garrett publishes an overlay map comparing the hose and V-band versions.

Features

Hose compressor outlet for intercooler piping joined with couplers and clamps
Integrated, fully machined sensor port for a Garrett speed sensor kit or the G-Smart module
Lightweight aluminum backplate
Built for classes with a 64.9mm compressor inducer limit

Specifications

Garrett turbo reference: 6466
Compressor inducer and exducer: 64.9mm and 88mm
Turbine inducer and exducer: 74mm and 66mm
Compressor outlet: Hose
Maximum turbocharger speed: 125,000 rpm

Applications

The GXR38-64 Super Core is not vehicle specific. Garrett sizes it by engine and output:

Engine displacement: 2.0L to 5.5L
Power range: 500 to 1150 horsepower (Garrett rating)
Garrett turbine kits: G38 0.85, 0.95 and 1.06 A/R, V-band or divided T4 inlet, V-band outlet, free float

Notes

The turbine housing is not included; Garrett’s matching G38 turbine housing kits are sold separately
An external wastegate is required, because every turbine housing Garrett lists for this core is free float
The Garrett speed sensor kit is sold separately
Garrett states that running above 125,000 rpm is at the owner’s risk and can result in damage and premature failure
Garrett asks buyers to verify class rules before purchasing a core for an inducer-limited class
The same core is also built with a V-band compressor outlet

Additional Information

The Bulletproof Automotive website contains many thousands of products purchased in multiple different currencies. All of the prices are entered manually and accurately at the time of entry. Due to the consistently fluctuating international exchange rates, at times prices may not be able to be honored at their original intended rate. Rest assured that any order you place on line will be at zero risk to you in this area. If in the event your order cannot be fulfilled at the original intended website price we will offer you a 100% refund, no questions asked. Shipping Policy

Items that are in stock in the US, either at Bulletproof’s warehouse or at a supplier’s warehouse, are generally delivered within 7-10 days. Special order items from overseas take considerably longer. As a courtesy Bulletproof offers delivery estimates to our customers which take into consideration manufacturer availability and shipping schedule. These estimates represent our best guess based on previous orders from the manufacturer and do not in any way imply a guaranteed delivery window. Many manufacturers work in a “just in time” inventory system and often take 2-20+ weeks to produce an item once an order is submitted. All deliverable items are then sent to our Japanese warehouse. Bulletproof ships a minimum of one full ocean freight container every month from Japan, oftentimes more than one a month. Ocean freight takes an average of 4 weeks. Typically it breaks down to one week in Japan for paperwork and customs, two weeks by boat and one week in US customs/clearance. Due to the wide number of variables between manufacturer and shipping schedules, delivery estimates are simply just that – estimates. We attempt to estimate conservatively and we usually deliver faster than our estimates suggest. It is not Bulletproof’s policy to guarantee delivery time of any special order item, this is impossible for us to do. By ordering you acknowledge that there is no required delivery ETA and an order may not be canceled or altered due to manufacturing or shipping delays, all ETA’s are provided as a best guess only. BP Pricing Difference

We do pricing a little differently on our JDM brands and we believe in making things simple and clear. No hidden fees or surcharges. Every price you see includes the shipping cost to our office in Los Angeles, California and all the associated taxes/duties/fees for bringing the products into the US. The only shipping you ever pay is from our facility in the US to your location. Be wary of resellers that don’t include the cost of international shipping in their pricing on JDM parts. While we believe we’ll always have the lowest all-in price on JDM products, we offer a price match guarantee for all authentic parts purchased from authorized dealers as well. For many international customers, it’s much more affordable to ship from the USA than from Japan directly, as the air freight and ocean freight costs are typically much less. However, for customers looking to ship directly from Japan outside of North America, or domestically in Japan, we can provide pricing specifically for that scenario. Please do not hesitate to contact us with any pricing questions or concerns. Please email us at sales@bulletproofautomotive.com with any inquiries.
