Eventuri Carbon Intake System for A90 Toyota GR Supra

The MK5 Supra Eventuri intake has been developed to provide the turbo with a less restrictive airflow path while maintaining low inlet temperatures. Heat and volume are key factors when designing an intake for turbocharged engines. In the Supra, the intake system is located near the exhaust manifold, causing rapid heat soak in the engine bay. High temperatures negatively affect performance, as the turbo needs to build boost with heated, less dense air. To combat this, Eventuri designed a fully sealed intake system to keep intake air temperatures (IATs) low. However, the stock setup allows only one air feed, creating a restriction. During development, Eventuri identified an additional opening into the wheel arch area and added a secondary feed to the airbox. Additionally, the sealed airbox features a gold-reflective heat shield to minimize radiant heat transfer from the exhaust manifold. To maximize volume, the airbox was designed as large as possible, including a recess for potential strut braces. The stock convoluted intake tube was replaced with a smooth carbon tube, offering a larger internal volume with a starting diameter of 111mm (4.4”), which tapers smoothly to match the turbo inlet. This design ensures a smooth airflow path from the filter to the turbo. Finally, Eventuri uses a custom high-flow dry filter that is ISO tested for filtration performance and provides a larger filtration area than the stock filter.

Dual Feed Carbon Fiber Airbox

  • Crafted from prepreg carbon fiber, the airbox is designed with two key objectives: to seal the filter from engine bay heat and to provide a dual cold air feed. Positioned next to the exhaust manifold, it is essential for the filter to be fully sealed. Eventuri engineered the airbox to encapsulate the filter while offering a large internal volume. To ensure the intake tube remains sealed, a laser-cut plate with a rubber sealing strip is used, securing the intake tube to the airbox and preventing heated air from entering. Additionally, a heat shield with a gold reflective layer is placed on the exhaust manifold side to minimize heat soak by effectively reducing radiant heat transfer.
  • A fully sealed airbox can create a restriction in the cold air feed, as the stock airbox only pulls air from a single duct extending to the front bumper area. During development, Eventuri identified an additional source of cold air—a gap between the wheel arch and the chassis where the airbox is positioned. To take advantage of this, they extended a scoop at the back of the design, which protrudes into the wheel arch and remains visible after installation behind the front wheel. This second air feed allows the turbo to draw from a larger area, reducing restriction. Since the scoop extends into the wheel arch, Eventuri also incorporated an internal splash guard to deflect water away from the filter. The animation below demonstrates both air feeds and the internal splash guard in action.
  • Eventuri’s final consideration was for race applications where their optional headlamp duct is utilized to maximize cold air intake. They designed a removable panel on the side of the airbox facing the headlamp, allowing this panel to be removed when the optional duct is installed, providing an additional direct feed of cold air to the filter.

Carbon Inlet Tube

  • The stock inlet tube features a flexible and convoluted section to allow for engine movement, but this design introduces the potential for turbulence in the airflow due to multiple surfaces that can cause eddies. Eventuri addresses this by replacing the stock tube with a smooth carbon tube that also has a larger internal volume. Unlike most aftermarket intakes, Eventuri maximized the size of their intake tube. The OEM inlet tube has an internal diameter of 80.8mm (3.2″) at the filter end, while Eventuri’s tube has an internal diameter of 109mm (4.3″), representing an 82% increase in cross-sectional area. The tube tapers smoothly down to the stock turbo inlet to maintain laminar airflow. It also features CNC-machined fittings for the temperature sensor and breather adapter.

Bespoke Cone Filter

  • Eventuri’s cone filter is made from a double-layered non-woven mesh material, ISO tested to meet OEM filtration standards. It is cleanable and highly stable at elevated temperatures, with a urethane base for added durability. The filter includes an internal flow-guiding cone that helps direct airflow, reducing the risk of a stagnation point in the center of the filter. Additionally, the filter medium offers a significantly larger surface area compared to the stock panel filter, improving overall airflow and performance.
