Eventuri Matte Carbon Intake System for E90 / E92 / E93 BMW M3

The BMW E9X M3 Eventuri intake system is the culmination of thorough research and optimization efforts that enhance what is already one of the best-designed stock intake systems Eventuri has encountered. The original E9X stock airbox system is adeptly designed to provide an excellent flow path and ambient air feed system. However, upon closer inspection, Eventuri identified restrictions in the inlet tube connecting the airbox to the inlet manifold. By redesigning this tube while retaining the airbox, they enabled the V8 engine to breathe more efficiently, thereby increasing power. Furthermore, Eventuri discovered an additional restriction in the air feed system. To address this, they developed a scoop that increases airflow through the airbox, further reducing inlet temperatures and enhancing the system’s performance.

Carbon Intake Tube

  • The intake tube was engineered to enhance the airflow path from the filter to the manifold compared to the stock tube. It features a one-piece design without internal interfaces, providing a smoother path for airflow. Additionally, the tube transitions from a circular opening at the filter end to an oval exit for the manifold, a more efficient shape change compared to the stock tube’s transition from a rectangular filter opening to an oval manifold exit.

Closer Look at the Stock System:

  • The stock intake tube incorporates two concertina sections to allow flexibility for engine movement. These sections create multiple internal interfaces, causing turbulence and reducing the efficiency of the airflow path. In contrast, the Eventuri tube has no internal interfaces, allowing for laminar airflow and more efficient engine breathing. The stock tube also features a large internal face at the filter connection, where the sharp geometry change from rectangular to oval causes airflow to circulate and enter the tube turbulently.

Flexibility and Movement:

  • Addressing the need for movement with the engine was a critical challenge. Rather than using silicon couplers with flexible sections, which would introduce interfaces similar to those in the stock tube, Eventuri designed the tube to move with the engine. It includes a compressible neoprene band around the section that interfaces with the stock airbox. This design seals the tube to the airbox while allowing it to move in and out as the engine shifts. This approach ensures that the airflow path remains as smooth as possible, enhancing overall performance.

Carbon Air Scoop

  • The E9X M3 airbox system receives cold air from two primary sources: a lower feed located beneath the headlamp and an upper feed positioned behind the kidney grills. The main source of airflow is the lower feed, which directly connects to the airbox via a large opening and undergoes minimal directional changes. This area is a high-pressure zone where air flows from underneath the vehicle to the top, exiting through the vent in the bonnet. Conversely, the upper feed behind the kidney grills, despite being beneficial, supplies a significantly lesser volume of air compared to the lower feed. This reduction is due to the air needing to make two 90-degree turns and the duct narrowing considerably before reaching the airbox.
  • Upon closer examination of the lower duct, it is evident that there is a prominent ridge that curves back towards itself just before the airbox opening. This ridge functions as a barrier, impeding the direct flow of air into the box by decreasing the speed at which air enters.
  • By creating a scoop that sits atop the stock duct and curves upward earlier to remove the ridge, airflow can now move from the duct to the airbox without any obstruction.
  • The airflow path becomes much smoother with the redesigned scoop, significantly boosting the velocity at which air enters the airbox. This adjustment results in lower intake temperatures; Eventuri’s data logging on the road demonstrated a 2-degree decrease in intake air temperature (IAT) with the scoop in place. To demonstrate the scoop’s effectiveness, Eventuri conducted a simple experiment using a leaf blower to create airflow and an airspeed meter to gauge the speed of the air entering the airbox. The blower was fixed in a position that directed air straight into the lower duct, and the meter was placed inside the airbox to record the incoming air speed. The results indicated a notable increase in air speed, nearly 50%, attributable to the use of the scoop.

Debris Shield

  • The final component is a debris shield attached to the filter – this deflects debris and water from impacting the filter directly. With the increase of airflow entering the airbox with the scoop – this is an important addition. There is no negative impact on performance since the airflow is not impeded through the airbox – temperatures are still lower than stock.

About Eventuri

Eventuri was founded by a team of engineers and enthusiasts with a background in Aeronautics and tuning – all sharing a passion for cars and performance. After owning various intakes over many years for their own cars and being disappointed with the gains which seldom lived up to their claims – they decided to take things into our own hands and rewrite the book. To set a new benchmark in intake design and technology, above all – to engineer systems which provide real gains and then to publish genuine figures. Their systems are extensively developed using cutting edge design, testing and prototyping methods. With a focus on performance, each design undergoes CFD analysis and is then validated at the prototype stage through volumetric airflow, intake temperature and extensive dynamometer testing. They strive to publish all the development information to illustrate the depths they go to in bringing an intake from concept to reality. Only the best materials are selected for each component – even down to the choice of fasteners and fixings in order to ensure that the quality of the end product is second to none. After many years of disappointment with the usual aftermarket intakes, they are proud to be raising the bar and creating intake systems which are setting a new standard and genuinely improve the performance of your vehicle.

The Bulletproof Automotive website contains many thousands of products purchased in multiple different currencies. All of the prices are entered manually and accurately at the time of entry. Due to the consistently fluctuating international exchange rates, at times prices may not be able to be honored at their original intended rate. We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause, unfortunately our website is unable to compensate dynamically for what can at times be volatile changes in the cost of items due to currency values fluctuating, changes in prices from suppliers, changes in shipping and import duties, and other factors. Rest assured that any order you place on line will be at zero risk to you in this area. If in the event your order cannot be fulfilled at the original intended website price we will offer you a 100% refund, no questions asked. We will continue to do our best to maintain updated prices and we will always continue to offer our price match guarantees as well to ensure our prices are always the best for you. In short, prices may change without notice. It is always advised to give us a call prior to placing your order online to confirm availability and to confirm current pricing.
Items that are in stock in the US, either at Bulletproof’s warehouse or at a supplier’s warehouse, are generally delivered within 7-10 days. Special order items from overseas take considerably longer. As a courtesy Bulletproof offers delivery estimates to our customers which take into consideration manufacturer availability and shipping schedule. These estimates represent our best guess based on previous orders from the manufacturer and do not in any way imply a guaranteed delivery window. Many manufacturers work in a “just in time” inventory system and often take 2-20+ weeks to produce an item once an order is submitted. All deliverable items are then sent to our Japanese warehouse. Bulletproof ships a minimum of one full ocean freight container every month from Japan, oftentimes more than one a month. Ocean freight takes an average of 4 weeks. Typically it breaks down to one week in Japan for paperwork and customs, two weeks by boat and one week in US customs/clearance. Due to the wide number of variables between manufacturer and shipping schedules, delivery estimates are simply just that – estimates. We attempt to estimate conservatively and we usually deliver faster than our estimates suggest. It is not Bulletproof’s policy to guarantee delivery time of any special order item, this is impossible for us to do. By ordering you acknowledge that there is no required delivery ETA and an order may not be canceled or altered due to manufacturing or shipping delays, all ETA’s are provided as a best guess only. Please review the full Terms & Conditions here.
We do pricing a little differently on our JDM brands and we believe in making things simple and clear. No hidden fees or surcharges. Every price you see includes the shipping cost to our office in Los Angeles, California and all the associated taxes/duties/fees for bringing the products into the US. The only shipping you ever pay is from our facility in the US to your location. Be wary of resellers that don’t include the cost of international shipping in their pricing on JDM parts. While we believe we’ll always have the lowest all-in price on JDM products, we offer a price match guarantee for all authentic parts purchased from authorized dealers as well. For many international customers, it’s much more affordable to ship from the USA than from Japan directly, as the air freight and ocean freight costs are typically much less. However, for customers looking to ship directly from Japan outside of North America, or domestically in Japan, we can provide pricing specifically for that scenario. Please do not hesitate to contact us with any pricing questions or concerns. Please email us at sales@bulletproofautomotive.com with any inquiries.
