The do88 Performance MERA Intercooler Kit for the 997.2 Porsche 911 Turbo and Turbo S is a state-of-the-art upgrade designed for enhanced cooling and airflow. Originally launched in 2016 with a UK-made tube-and-fin core, the kit demonstrated exceptional performance on 1000+ hp builds. In 2021, do88 updated the design with a Garrett Bar & Plate motorsport-grade core, achieving 11°C lower inlet air temperatures (IATs) and 12% higher airflow compared to the previous version. The kit features a lightweight air duct constructed from real prepreg carbon and includes hoses compatible with either OEM or do88 (70mm) Y-pipes, offering seamless integration. Despite a modest 3 kg weight increase per intercooler, the substantial performance gains make this kit an indispensable upgrade for high-performance 997.2 models.

Intercooler

The updated intercooler core is new, while the end tanks and accessories remain unchanged. Featuring precision-engineered cast end tanks, the intercoolers ensure optimal airflow distribution across the entire core, enhancing both pressure drop and cooling efficiency. To accommodate the thicker core, a new upper ambient air guide was developed using a 3D-scanned environment, ensuring a perfect fit with the vehicle-integrated air guides and the intercooler. The MERA intercooler kit includes 70 mm connections, eliminating bottlenecks and allowing unrestricted airflow. New hoses, 3D-designed and CFD-tested for maximum airflow, are included for each position, with turbo outlet hoses made from high-temperature material rated for continuous use at 464°F. To maximize heat transfer, the carbon ducts feature proper seals against the body, ensuring that all airflow passes through the core without escaping around it.
Overall, the weight increase compared to the OEM units is minimal, especially given the substantial size of the intercoolers and their all-aluminum, dense construction. Each do88 intercooler weighs 18.10 lbs, compared to the 997.2 OEM intercooler’s 7.27lbs. While this may appear significant, the weight increase is more than justified by the substantial performance gains these intercoolers deliver.

Performance

The do88 intercoolers deliver a significant reduction in intake temperatures, showcasing superior performance compared to the OEM 997.2 units. Data collected using an AIM race logger during five consecutive full-throttle runs (30-155 mph) in a Stage 1-tuned Porsche 997 demonstrated a peak inlet air temperature decrease of 32.4°F. The tests were conducted without cooldowns, with the car in Sport Plus mode and AC off. Initial runs were performed with the OEM intercoolers, followed by a quick swap to the do88 intercoolers and identical testing after a brief shakedown. Extensive development, including the refinement of end tanks and the selection of an optimized core, has resulted in an intercooler that excels in both heat transfer and airflow efficiency. Airflow was verified using the in-house Superflow SF-1020 Probench as a complete system with hoses on both the inlet and outlet, demonstrating the superior performance of the do88 intercoolers compared to the OEM 997.2 units.

Shipping Policy

Items that are in stock in the US, either at Bulletproof’s warehouse or at a supplier’s warehouse, are generally delivered within 7-10 days. Special order items from overseas take considerably longer. As a courtesy Bulletproof offers delivery estimates to our customers which take into consideration manufacturer availability and shipping schedule. These estimates represent our best guess based on previous orders from the manufacturer and do not in any way imply a guaranteed delivery window. Many manufacturers work in a “just in time” inventory system and often take 2-20+ weeks to produce an item once an order is submitted. All deliverable items are then sent to our Japanese warehouse. Bulletproof ships a minimum of one full ocean freight container every month from Japan, oftentimes more than one a month. Ocean freight takes an average of 4 weeks. Typically it breaks down to one week in Japan for paperwork and customs, two weeks by boat and one week in US customs/clearance. Due to the wide number of variables between manufacturer and shipping schedules, delivery estimates are simply just that – estimates. We attempt to estimate conservatively and we usually deliver faster than our estimates suggest.
