The E60 M5 and E6X M6 revolutionized the automotive world in the mid-2000s with their 5.0L V10 engines and striking, edgy design. These models remain highly sought after for their status as future classics and for being the only BMWs ever equipped with a V10 engine. Given current industry trends, it is unlikely that an engine like the S85 will ever appear in production vehicles again. Renowned for its performance, the S85 V10 is an extraordinary engine, but it is not without challenges—most notably the excessive heat it generates. Managing oil temperatures is a significant concern for the M5 and M6, as oil temperatures can rise to dangerously high levels during spirited driving. Compounding the issue, the factory oil cooler is prone to leaking and cracking. The CSF E6X M5 / M6 High-Performance Oil Cooler addresses both of these critical issues, providing a reliable and efficient solution. While the factory radiator performs adequately to keep the car cool, sourcing replacements can be challenging, and the intense heat produced by the V10 places additional strain on the entire cooling system. Design and Engineering
- CSF has received numerous requests for an upgraded oil cooler for the E60 M5 and E6X M6 platforms. The CSF design draws inspiration from the renowned RPI SV1 oil cooler, a product that was highly regarded as the go-to upgrade for many years before its discontinuation. This sought-after unit was considered essential for track enthusiasts and owners running supercharged setups, making the new CSF oil cooler a fitting and modern solution for maintaining peak performance.
CSF VS OEM
- The original OE oil cooler from BMW features an all-metal design, which might suggest durability. However, the factory unit has several weak points that commonly lead to leaks. CSF’s Race-Spec oil cooler addresses these vulnerabilities with significant reinforcements. The design features a solid line connection block, engineered to withstand extreme conditions, and a reinforced, braced return tube for enhanced durability. CSF also upgraded the fragile Tub/Fin core of the OE cooler to a more robust and durable Bar / Plate design. This new core is 40% larger than the factory unit, incorporating two additional rows for oil cooling and a significantly thicker core (63mm compared to the OE’s 45mm). These enhancements provide superior cooling capacity and increased oil volume. Additionally, TIG-welded end tanks replace the factory’s brazed construction, ensuring a much stronger and more reliable connection. Together, these upgrades make the CSF Race-Spec oil cooler a high-performance solution for demanding applications.

Items that are in stock in the US, either at Bulletproof’s warehouse or at a supplier’s warehouse, are generally delivered within 7-10 days. Special order items from overseas take considerably longer. As a courtesy Bulletproof offers delivery estimates to our customers which take into consideration manufacturer availability and shipping schedule. These estimates represent our best guess based on previous orders from the manufacturer and do not in any way imply a guaranteed delivery window. Many manufacturers work in a “just in time” inventory system and often take 2-20+ weeks to produce an item once an order is submitted. All deliverable items are then sent to our Japanese warehouse. Bulletproof ships a minimum of one full ocean freight container every month from Japan, oftentimes more than one a month. Ocean freight takes an average of 4 weeks. Typically it breaks down to one week in Japan for paperwork and customs, two weeks by boat and one week in US customs/clearance. Due to the wide number of variables between manufacturer and shipping schedules, delivery estimates are simply just that – estimates. We attempt to estimate conservatively and we usually deliver faster than our estimates suggest.
