CSF has observed that as enthusiasts continue to elevate the performance of F-Chassis BMWs, the limitations of the factory radiator have become increasingly apparent. Elevated boost levels and turbocharger upgrades generate excess heat that the OEM cooling system often cannot manage. Combined with the front-mounted heat exchanger, these factors can cause elevated coolant temperatures — especially during track use — potentially triggering limp mode.
CSF also notes the long-term reliability concerns associated with OEM plastic radiators. Over time, these components are prone to issues such as clogged tubes, damaged fins, and a higher likelihood of tank cracking or gasket failure. As a result, upgrading the factory radiator is essential for maintaining performance and durability.

5mm Core Upgrade

While the initial 6.5mm fin version of the radiator performed exceptionally well in testing, CSF opted to push the design further. Prior to final production, the radiator was updated with CSF’s latest 5mm fin technology—introduced in late 2023. This revised core configuration delivers greater heat transfer and thermal efficiency than the original prototypes. CSF is confident that this radiator is capable of meeting the extreme demands of motorsport use.

CSF vs OEM

CSF acknowledges that the original OE radiator from BMW, while generally reliable, utilizes a plastic tank and single-row aluminum core. Although the 4.5mm fin design provided adequate efficiency for a factory part, the system’s limitations are most evident in the 34mm thick, single-row core — restricting overall cooling performance.
CSF addresses these shortcomings by incorporating its newest 5mm fin technology in the upgraded radiator. These fins expand the heat exchange surface area, increasing cooling efficiency and improving recovery while preserving airflow. The radiator features a significantly larger 2-row, 42mm aluminum core that not only increases coolant capacity but also enhances heat dissipation. CSF’s exclusive B-Tube Technology improves heat transfer by approximately 15% compared to standard oval welded tubes, and the multi-louvered fins maximize airflow for peak thermal performance.
CSF manufactures the radiator with TIG-welded, 100% all-aluminum construction, boosting structural integrity and longevity. Items that are in stock in the US, either at Bulletproof’s warehouse or at a supplier’s warehouse, are generally delivered within 7-10 days. Special order items from overseas take considerably longer. As a courtesy Bulletproof offers delivery estimates to our customers which take into consideration manufacturer availability and shipping schedule. These estimates represent our best guess based on previous orders from the manufacturer and do not in any way imply a guaranteed delivery window. Many manufacturers work in a “just in time” inventory system and often take 2-20+ weeks to produce an item once an order is submitted. All deliverable items are then sent to our Japanese warehouse. Bulletproof ships a minimum of one full ocean freight container every month from Japan, oftentimes more than one a month. Ocean freight takes an average of 4 weeks. Typically it breaks down to one week in Japan for paperwork and customs, two weeks by boat and one week in US customs/clearance. Due to the wide number of variables between manufacturer and shipping schedules, delivery estimates are simply just that – estimates.
