In response to strong demand, CSF now introduces the “Super Manifold” for the Gen 1 B58 F-Chassis BMW platform. The Gen 1 B58 Charge-Air-Cooler Manifold features the same advanced design and specifications as the Gen 2, along with improved fit and finish. As Gen 1 B58 vehicles grow in popularity among tuners and motorsport enthusiasts, the demand for high-performance parts has surged, especially for cars exceeding 600 horsepower. The “Super Manifold” addresses the shortcomings of the OEM system, such as heat soak, limited durability, and failures under high-boost conditions, making it the ultimate solution for power and reliability.

Design and Engineering

  • During the development of the Charge-Air-Cooler Manifold for the Gen 1 B58, CSF collaborated with R&D partner VF Engineering to conduct extensive dyno testing. Over 50 runs were performed on the same car, under consistent conditions (~90°F ambient temperature), comparing the performance of the CSF Charge-Air-Cooler Manifold to the OEM unit. Each system underwent approximately 25 back-to-back pulls at 30-second intervals, assessing heat soak resistance, recovery time, long-term performance, and turbo system duty cycle. This rigorous approach to R&D underscores CSF’s commitment to delivering exceptional products. The Gen 1 B58 Charge-Air-Cooler Manifold, which builds on the proven design of the Gen 2 manifold with minor fitment adjustments, offers the same level of unmatched performance. The Gen 1 B58 “Super Manifold” has been battle-tested in the world’s most demanding motorsport events, including the Pikes Peak International Hill Climb, Global Time Attack, and Texas 2K drag racing. It has also demonstrated its capabilities on dynos, supporting vehicles producing over 1000 whp. While the manifold’s advanced features and engineering excellence set it apart, its proven performance in real-world applications truly speaks for itself.

Top Feed Port Injection with Included Fuel Rail

  • The CSF Manifold features an extruded fuel rail designed to attach seamlessly to the outlet side of the manifold. The AN-8 fuel rail includes feed and return -8 internal hex plug fittings from Radium Engineering, ensuring a plug-and-play installation. Each cylinder fuel rail aperture is optimized with a 7mm opening, providing compatibility with most high-performance injectors. CSF recommends Injector Dynamics (ID) injectors for optimal performance. To support the use of short-height injectors, also known as “shorties,” the supplied hardware kit includes anodized CNC-machined injector hats (set of 6) for precise fitment and functionality.

Vacuum and Parameter Pad

  • CSF has integrated a 3-port pad into the machining of the tank on the manifold inlet side. These 1/8″ NPT ports provide flexibility for measuring additional parameters or serving as an extra vacuum source. If unused, the ports can be securely sealed using the plugs included in the hardware kit.

Easy Access to Spin-Off Oil Filter With Counter Balanced Design

  • CSF designed the manifold with a recessed section at the back to provide easy access to the spin-off oil filter, eliminating the need to remove the manifold during oil changes. While this design is not exclusive to CSF, CSF is the only company to address the airflow disruptions such a recess can cause. Using SolidWorks CFD software, CSF engineers developed and tested a counterbalanced protrusion positioned above the recess to offset airflow turbulence. This innovative feature ensures smooth air delivery to the rear of the core, optimizing cooling performance.

Air Inlet Divider

  • The CSF manifold includes an air divider welded into the inlet-side tank, an exclusive feature designed for optimal performance. To address the length of the manifold, CSF engineers, in collaboration with VF Engineering, ensured consistent air volume and velocity to all cylinders. After extensive simulations using SolidWorks CFD software, the air divider was incorporated to deliver equal airflow and cooling performance across the engine. This innovation ensures that cylinders four, five, and six at the rear of the manifold receive the same airflow as cylinders one, two, and three at the front, maximizing overall performance.

Breather Ports for Inlet/Outlet of Water Tanks

  • CSF has positioned two 1/8″ NPT ports on the top of the rear water plate, providing options for measuring inlet and outlet water temperatures or serving as breather ports during the bleeding procedure. The supplied hardware kit includes 1/8″ NPT plugs for unused ports. CSF recommends following the OEM BMW or Toyota bleeding procedure, which typically takes approximately 15 minutes to complete.

Thermal Rejection Competition Spacer

  • CSF exclusively offers the KIYLEX® Intake Manifold Spacer for the B58 motor, crafted from a patented, high-performance polymer as strong as aluminum and capable of withstanding temperatures up to 1100°F. This spacer is engineered to insulate the intake manifold from conductive heat transfer from the cylinder head, creating a thermal barrier that lowers manifold temperatures, reduces Intake Air Temperatures (IATs), improves charge air cooler efficiency, and combats heat soak. The Thermal Rejection Spacer is particularly beneficial for drag and roll-racing events, where vehicles often sit in staging lanes between runs. During these idle periods, insufficient airflow over the front-mounted heat exchanger leads to extreme heat soak, causing higher starting IATs on subsequent runs. By reducing heat transfer between the cylinder head and the manifold, the spacer helps maintain lower temperatures for more consistent performance. While the CSF manifold, made from billet aluminum and 100% TIG-welded, is designed for durability under higher boost pressures than the OEM plastic manifold, aluminum’s higher thermal conductivity can result in increased heat transfer. The Thermal Rejection Spacer mitigates this by absorbing heat from the cylinder head and dissipating it, rather than transferring it to the manifold. Designed for motorsports applications where optimal cooling is critical for a competitive edge, the CSF Thermal Rejection Competition Spacer also provides significant cooling benefits for any vehicle, enhancing overall performance and reliability.

Rear Water Plate Breather Ports & Overflow Tank Fitting

  • CSF has introduced a new -6 ORB 90° swivel fitting with adjustable clocking, offering greater flexibility for installing the overflow return line. This fitting allows the line to be routed directly to the OEM overflow tank in the factory configuration or hidden for a “clean-tucked” return route to the OEM overflow tank at the front of the engine bay. The kit includes 40 inches of overflow hose, which can be trimmed to the desired length for customized water line routing. Additionally, CSF has sourced and included an OEM quick-connect fitting for the factory overflow tank, ensuring a secure connection. For added convenience, the fitting comes pre-installed on the overflow line, enabling a quick and hassle-free installation.

Slotted Mounting Tabs

  • CSF designed the manifold for straightforward positioning within the engine bay. However, during test fittings, CSF identified that aligning the bolt holes on the intake-side mounting tabs could be challenging. To address this, the mounting tabs were slotted, allowing bolts to be loosely installed prior to making final positioning adjustments. This modification simplifies the installation process and ensures a smoother fit.

Core Differences

  • CSF sets itself apart by using a motorsports-grade bar-and-plate air-to-water core that is 100% larger (double the capacity) of the OEM core. This design features 12 cooling rows compared to the OEM’s 6 rows, delivering significantly enhanced cooling performance. In contrast, two competitors use the same core, which is only 70% larger than OEM and lacks published data on the number of cooling rows. Each intake runner on the CSF manifold is precisely machined to accommodate OEM O-rings, with factory-style “teeth” to secure them—an exclusive CSF feature. This design prevents O-rings from falling out during preparation and installation, significantly reducing frustration during the process. Additionally, the CSF Thermal Rejection Competition Spacer not only provides insulation but also serves as a gasket between the cylinder head and the manifold. Its precision machining ensures a perfect seal, enhancing performance and reliability. In comparison, a competitor’s phenolic spacer does not meet the same standards, requiring the use of aftermarket O-rings alongside the factory ones to achieve a positive seal between the manifold, spacer, and cylinder head.

Oil Filter Recess

  • While competitors have also incorporated a recessed design at the back of the manifold for easy access to the spin-off oil filter, CSF stands out as the only company to address the airflow disruptions caused by this feature.     • Thermal Dispersion Coatings: Thermal Dispersant / Dispersion Coatings are submicron coatings with exceptionally high thermal conductivity. Their dense, unique chemical composition allows for efficient heat transfer. When applied to a heat exchanger like an intercooler, the enhanced thermal conductivity draws heat to the surface of the component, improving performance.
