Will the Silver WRX Front Mount Intercooler Kit fit my 2015-2021 WRX?

Yes, as long as the car is a USDM 2015 to 2021 WRX sedan with either the manual transmission or the CVT. COBB confirms both transmissions across every model year in that span. The WRX STI from the same years takes its own COBB kit with a BPV adapter and IAT sensor bung, and the 2022 and later VB WRX needs a different kit entirely.

Do I need a tune after installing this intercooler?

The kit ships without an Accessport or any tuning software, and the COBB listing for this part does not state a tuning requirement. If the car already runs a custom tune, have your tuner review it after the change, since a front mount layout lengthens the charge path. An Accessport, sold separately, also lets you datalog intake air temperature before and after the swap.

Is this intercooler kit legal in California?

Yes. COBB states the kit is legal for sale and use on emissions-controlled vehicles in all 50 states when installed following its application guide. It is covered by California Air Resources Board Executive Order numbers D-660-22, D-660-57, D-660-219 and D-660-259, and a CARB sticker referencing D-660-57 comes in the box with the parts.

Will it work with my aftermarket intake?

COBB designed the kit around its own Big SF Intake and Airbox combination and says compatibility with other intake kits cannot be confirmed. If you run a different brand of intake, check with that manufacturer before ordering, or plan to switch to the Big SF setup along with the intercooler so the whole combination matches the COBB design.

What is the difference between the silver and black versions?

Only the finish of the core. The Silver WRX Front Mount Intercooler Kit uses core 716500-SL with a silver heat-dissipating coating, while the black kit uses 716500-BK. Core size, the 2.5 in black powder coated piping, fitment, CARB coverage and price are the same, so the choice comes down to how you want the nose of the WRX to look.

Description

COBB Tuning Silver WRX Front Mount Intercooler Kit for VA Subaru WRX

COBB Tuning’s Silver WRX Front Mount Intercooler Kit moves charge cooling on the 2015-2021 VA Subaru WRX from the top of the engine to the nose of the car, where a 24 x 11 x 4 in bar and plate core sits in direct airflow. The factory top mount is easily overworked by heat from below, so intake air temperatures rise and power fades; owners who feel that on track days are who this kit is for. It carries CARB Executive Orders for all 50 states. COBB engineered it around its Big SF Intake and Airbox, so budget for it if you run another intake.

About COBB Tuning

COBB Tuning was founded by Trey Cobb in 1999 in Rockwall, Texas, as a Subaru performance shop in the back of his father’s tire shop, and is now headquartered in Austin, Texas. In 2004 COBB introduced the Accessport, a handheld ECU tuning device that flashes COBB’s off-the-shelf maps or a custom tune and doubles as a real-time gauge and datalogger. The range has since grown from Subaru to Ford, Volkswagen, Audi, Porsche, Nissan, Honda, Mazda, Mitsubishi and Toyota platforms, with intakes, intercoolers, exhausts and flex fuel kits engineered alongside the tuning, and many COBB parts carry California Air Resources Board Executive Order numbers for use in all 50 states.

Additional Information

The Bulletproof Automotive website contains many thousands of products purchased in multiple different currencies. All of the prices are entered manually and accurately at the time of entry. Due to the consistently fluctuating international exchange rates, at times prices may not be able to be honored at their original intended rate. Rest assured that any order you place on line will be at zero risk to you in this area. If in the event your order cannot be fulfilled at the original intended website price we will offer you a 100% refund, no questions asked. We will continue to do our best to maintain updated prices and we will always continue to offer our price match guarantees as well to ensure our prices are always the best for you. Shipping Policy

Items that are in stock in the US, either at Bulletproof’s warehouse or at a supplier’s warehouse, are generally delivered within 7-10 days. Special order items from overseas take considerably longer. As a courtesy Bulletproof offers delivery estimates to our customers which take into consideration manufacturer availability and shipping schedule. These estimates represent our best guess based on previous orders from the manufacturer and do not in any way imply a guaranteed delivery window. Many manufacturers work in a “just in time” inventory system and often take 2-20+ weeks to produce an item once an order is submitted. All deliverable items are then sent to our Japanese warehouse. Bulletproof ships a minimum of one full ocean freight container every month from Japan, oftentimes more than one a month. Ocean freight takes an average of 4 weeks. Typically it breaks down to one week in Japan for paperwork and customs, two weeks by boat and one week in US customs/clearance. Due to the wide number of variables between manufacturer and shipping schedules, delivery estimates are simply just that – estimates. We attempt to estimate conservatively and we usually deliver faster than our estimates suggest. It is not Bulletproof’s policy to guarantee delivery time of any special order item, this is impossible for us to do. By ordering you acknowledge that there is no required delivery ETA and an order may not be canceled or altered due to manufacturing or shipping delays, all ETA’s are provided as a best guess only. BP Pricing Difference

We do pricing a little differently on our JDM brands and we believe in making things simple and clear. No hidden fees or surcharges. Every price you see includes the shipping cost to our office in Los Angeles, California and all the associated taxes/duties/fees for bringing the products into the US. The only shipping you ever pay is from our facility in the US to your location. Be wary of resellers that don’t include the cost of international shipping in their pricing on JDM parts. While we believe we’ll always have the lowest all-in price on JDM products, we offer a price match guarantee for all authentic parts purchased from authorized dealers as well. For many international customers, it’s much more affordable to ship from the USA than from Japan directly, as the air freight and ocean freight costs are typically much less. However, for customers looking to ship directly from Japan outside of North America, or domestically in Japan, we can provide pricing specifically for that scenario. Please do not hesitate to contact us with any pricing questions or concerns. Please email us at sales@bulletproofautomotive.com with any inquiries.
