Does the Carbon Fiber STI Intake need a tune?

Yes. The Carbon Fiber STI Intake changes airflow past the Mass Air Flow sensor, so the ECU needs a matching calibration. COBB says it runs the Off The Shelf maps that support the standard SF Intake, which on this STI means Stage 1+SF and Stage 3. The Accessport is sold separately.

Is the Redline intake legal in California?

Yes. COBB lists this intake as legal for sale and use on emissions controlled vehicles in all 50 states under California Air Resources Board Executive Order D-660-79, when installed according to the manufacturer application guide. Keep a copy of the EO with the vehicle for smog inspections.

Which STI models does it fit?

COBB confirms the 2015 to 2021 Subaru WRX STI sedan with the manual transmission in US and Australian market form, plus the US market 2018 Type RA and 2019 S209. The regular WRX of those years uses a different engine and has its own Redline intake.

Will it fit with the COBB Radiator Shroud?

No. COBB states that the Redline Carbon Fiber Intake will not fit with the COBB Radiator Shroud installed, so the two parts cannot be run together. If the shroud is already on the vehicle, return to the factory radiator cover when fitting this airbox and scoop.

How difficult is installation?

COBB calls it about as simple as an intake with an integrated airbox and scoop can be. Fit the supplied brackets following the COBB instructions, then drop the assembly in within a few minutes. Once installed, servicing the filter is equally straightforward.

Description

COBB Tuning Redline Carbon Fiber STI Intake for VA Subaru WRX STI

COBB Tuning’s Redline Carbon Fiber STI Intake gives the 2015-2021 WRX STI an airbox and integrated scoop formed from several layers of 2×2 twill carbon fiber under a gloss clear coat. It holds CARB EO D-660-79, so it is street legal in every state. Choose it when the engine bay matters as much as the airflow; for flow alone, the standard SF Intake runs the same maps. Budget for an Accessport or custom tune.

Construction

Every layer of the Carbon Fiber STI Intake airbox is carbon, with no plastic shell under a decorative skin. The MAF housing, molded in one piece from high temperature composite to save weight and limit heat transfer, bolts to the box through a black anodized billet adapter. Inside it, a CFD-designed velocity stack and flow straightener grid calm the air before it crosses the Mass Air Flow sensor, so the Carbon Fiber STI Intake reads accurately on COBB maps.

Features

Multi-layer hand-laid 2×2 twill carbon fiber airbox with integrated carbon fiber scoop
Gloss clear finish for heat and UV fade resistance
Bespoke black Redline badge at the front of the intake ducting
Pre-oiled conical filter, 35% larger than the COBB SF Intake filter
Removable fender-side billet plate for extra airflow and intake sound
Black anodized billet MAF adapter, silicone coupler and clamps

Applications

Subaru WRX STI: VA | 2015-2021 | Sedan | Manual transmission (USDM and ADM)
Subaru WRX STI S209: VA | 2019 | Sedan | Manual transmission (USDM)
Subaru WRX STI Type RA: VA | 2018 | Sedan | Manual transmission (USDM)

Notes

Accessport not included; requires a COBB Stage 1+SF or Stage 3 Off The Shelf map, or a custom tune revised for this intake
Does not fit with the COBB Radiator Shroud
50-state legal with CARB EO D-660-79
Carbon fiber parts are hand laid, so slight imperfections or weave pattern variances can be expected

About COBB Tuning

COBB Tuning was founded by Trey Cobb in 1999 in Rockwall, Texas, as a Subaru performance shop in the back of his father’s tire shop, and is now headquartered in Austin, Texas. In 2004 COBB introduced the Accessport, a handheld ECU tuning device that flashes COBB’s off-the-shelf maps or a custom tune and doubles as a real-time gauge and datalogger. The range has since grown from Subaru to Ford, Volkswagen, Audi, Porsche, Nissan, Honda, Mazda, Mitsubishi and Toyota platforms, with intakes, intercoolers, exhausts and flex fuel kits engineered alongside the tuning, and many COBB parts carry California Air Resources Board Executive Order numbers for use in all 50 states.

Additional Information

The Bulletproof Automotive website contains many thousands of products purchased in multiple different currencies. All of the prices are entered manually and accurately at the time of entry. Due to the consistently fluctuating international exchange rates, at times prices may not be able to be honored at their original intended rate. Rest assured that any order you place on line will be at zero risk to you in this area. If in the event your order cannot be fulfilled at the original intended website price we will offer you a 100% refund, no questions asked. Shipping Policy

Items that are in stock in the US, either at Bulletproof’s warehouse or at a supplier’s warehouse, are generally delivered within 7-10 days. Special order items from overseas take considerably longer. As a courtesy Bulletproof offers delivery estimates to our customers which take into consideration manufacturer availability and shipping schedule. These estimates represent our best guess based on previous orders from the manufacturer and do not in any way imply a guaranteed delivery window. Many manufacturers work in a “just in time” inventory system and often take 2-20+ weeks to produce an item once an order is submitted. All deliverable items are then sent to our Japanese warehouse. Bulletproof ships a minimum of one full ocean freight container every month from Japan, oftentimes more than one a month. Ocean freight takes an average of 4 weeks. Typically it breaks down to one week in Japan for paperwork and customs, two weeks by boat and one week in US customs/clearance. Due to the wide number of variables between manufacturer and shipping schedules, delivery estimates are simply just that – estimates. We attempt to estimate conservatively and we usually deliver faster than our estimates suggest. It is not Bulletproof’s policy to guarantee delivery time of any special order item, this is impossible for us to do. By ordering you acknowledge that there is no required delivery ETA and an order may not be canceled or altered due to manufacturing or shipping delays, all ETA’s are provided as a best guess only. BP Pricing Difference

We do pricing a little differently on our JDM brands and we believe in making things simple and clear. No hidden fees or surcharges. Every price you see includes the shipping cost to our office in Los Angeles, California and all the associated taxes/duties/fees for bringing the products into the US. The only shipping you ever pay is from our facility in the US to your location. Be wary of resellers that don’t include the cost of international shipping in their pricing on JDM parts. While we believe we’ll always have the lowest all-in price on JDM products, we offer a price match guarantee for all authentic parts purchased from authorized dealers as well. For many international customers, it’s much more affordable to ship from the USA than from Japan directly, as the air freight and ocean freight costs are typically much less. However, for customers looking to ship directly from Japan outside of North America, or domestically in Japan, we can provide pricing specifically for that scenario. Please do not hesitate to contact us with any pricing questions or concerns. Please email us at sales@bulletproofautomotive.com with any inquiries.
