COBB Tuning’s Black TMIC for BT Subaru Outback is a top mount intercooler that gives the 2.4L turbo wagon a Garrett core measuring 20 x 7 x 4 in between cast aluminum end tanks, with a dark finish that sits quietly under the hood scoop. COBB quotes 30% more airflow than the factory part, and the matching Thrust Tunnel draws more of the scoop air through the fins. For an XT or Wilderness owner who sees heat soak in traffic, on trail climbs or while towing, this is the upgrade that addresses charge temperature first while leaving the calibration alone.

Construction

Charge air enters through cast aluminum end tanks shaped to spread flow across the Garrett core. The COBB Thrust Tunnel, made from wrinkle black powder coated aluminum, attaches to the factory hood ducting so the air coming through the scoop is directed into the core rather than spilling around it. Reinforced silicone couplers complete the turbo-to-throttle-body path.

Installation and Tuning

COBB designed the Black TMIC for BT Subaru Outback as a direct replacement. The inlet uses the original charge pipe and its o-ring seal, and the outlet uses the stock o-ring that seals over the throttle body inlet. No tuning changes are needed, and the stock Subaru calibration can run it safely.

COBB Tuning was founded by Trey Cobb in 1999 in Rockwall, Texas, as a Subaru performance shop in the back of his father’s tire shop, and is now headquartered in Austin, Texas. Items that are in stock in the US, either at Bulletproof’s warehouse or at a supplier’s warehouse, are generally delivered within 7-10 days. Special order items from overseas take considerably longer.
