Performance enhancement

• The initial concept for this system was centered around elevating performance and enhancing the acoustic profile, with its internal components designed to enhance flow and replicate the distinctive Ferrari F1 sound. This exhaust system is not only lighter but also exhibits superior heat dissipation capabilities, resulting in improved performance metrics, including enhanced torque and throttle response.

Development

• In some driving scenarios, when the original bypass valve of Ferrari 355 vehicles is in the open position, a reverse flow through the silencer can cause overheating and damage to the headers. This occurs because, with the valve open, not all exhaust gases flow through the main catalytic converter; instead, most flow through the bypass. This creates a vacuum at the exit leading to the main catalytic converter, causing hot exhaust gases in the muffler to be drawn backward through the main catalyst, further heating the gases.
• This cycle continues when the exhaust gas valve is open, generating increasing heat. Although Ferrari made modifications in 1996 to address this issue, it was not completely resolved. The problem lies in the extreme back pressure created when all exhaust gases, including those aspirated backward, must pass through a single exhaust gas valve.
• To combat these issues, Capristo exhaust systems were designed differently. They route exhaust tubes from the main catalytic converter to the outer end pipes and those from the bypass to the inner end pipes, preventing the mixing of hot exhaust gases with cold air. This not only maintains exhaust temperature but also eliminates the excessive back pressure caused by a single bypass valve, ensuring optimal performance.
