BBi makes the billet valve covers for engines running 12 spark plugs, the twin-plug layout of the 964 and 993. An early 911 engine needs a 12-plug cylinder head setup to use the ignition kit, so confirm the head specification with BA before ordering.

Does installation require any drilling?

BBi Autosport’s Air-Cooled EFI System puts fuel, air and spark under one engine management strategy for the early 911, 964 and 993, developed by the Huntington Beach Porsche specialist on its own Pikes Peak 993 GT2 EVO. It is not an injection kit grafted onto a factory distributor: six individual throttle bodies, an Emtron ECU and billet coil-on-plug valve covers were designed together and proven over three years on naturally aspirated and forced induction engines. It suits an owner committed to a fully engineered conversion; a numbers-matching restoration is better left on factory injection.

Design and Performance

Two drive-by-wire motors work the throttle bodies in the layout Porsche uses on its own engines, so the ECU balances the banks and holds a steady idle, while a common shaft and a node-mounted position sensor ensure no single failure can hold the throttles open. Phenolic spacers with o-ring seals keep head heat away from the throttles. The Emtron ECU and RyWire power distribution module sit under the driver’s seat, and the engine wiring meets them at a bulkhead Autosport connector.

Items that are in stock in the US, either at Bulletproof’s warehouse or at a supplier’s warehouse, are generally delivered within 7-10 days. Special order items from overseas take considerably longer.
