The AWE Tuning Track Edition Exhaust for the Subaru Impreza and WRX STI is a 3” cat-back system crafted from CNC mandrel-bent T304L stainless steel, designed to maximize exhaust flow and deliver an unfiltered BOXER® tone. Unlike the Touring Edition, it removes the 180 Technology® resonator, allowing for a more aggressive and pronounced sound under throttle while maintaining controlled rasp. The system includes an integrated front pipe and midpipe optimized for straight-through performance, and the 102mm chrome silver quad tips align cleanly with the rear valance. It installs using factory mounting points, retains full compatibility with emissions monitoring systems, and is engineered to provide consistent performance, fitment, and tonal character across the rev range.
The Track Edition is aimed at drivers who prefer a more aggressive, open exhaust character. It keeps the integrated front pipe, custom midpipe resonator, and engineered precision of the Touring Edition but removes the 180 Technology® drone-canceling resonator. A straight section replaces the rear resonator, allowing unrestricted flow and producing a louder, more pronounced tone during mid-range acceleration and deceleration, which can be intense for some drivers.
AWE’s 180 Technology® directs exhaust gases through a resonator with carefully positioned ports and reflection chambers. Inside these chambers, sound waves reflect off the walls, and engineers precisely tune the ports and chamber dimensions so the reflected waves rejoin the main exhaust flow 180 degrees out of phase, canceling frequencies that cause drone. Each resonator is specifically tuned to the vehicle’s acoustics rather than using a generic design, resulting in a clean, controlled exhaust note that eliminates unwanted tones while preserving performance and tonal clarity.
During development, AWE studied the factory exhaust valve’s behavior across driving modes. Volume remains fairly consistent when the valve is active, staying closed only in Comfort mode and opening once a throttle threshold is reached. In Sport and Sport+ modes, it remains open, with Sport+ adding ECU-controlled burbles. Stock exhaust flow is routed through side mufflers when the valve is closed to reduce cabin noise and drone, and through the center path when open for a more pronounced tone.
The system is designed for simple conversion between Track and Touring Editions, allowing drivers to adjust cabin sound levels without replacing the entire exhaust.
