Can this lip be used for high-speed running?

No. APR builds the Front Lip for DBA-R35 for road course and circuit use and states plainly that it is not meant for sustained high speed. It closes off the front bumper ducting that feeds the brakes, and with no route for that pressure to escape it can damage the lip, the bumper and the parts behind them.

Does it fit a pre-facelift R35?

No. This lip is cut for the facelift bumper, which is the DBA-R35 sold from 2012. The earlier car carries different front bumper geometry and mounting positions, so the panel will not line up on it.

Does fitting it require drilling?

The mounting holes come pre-drilled to the factory front bumper pattern, and stainless machine screws, washers and nuts are supplied. Check the hole positions against your own bumper before fitting, because a car that has had front-end work may no longer match the factory pattern.

Is this real carbon fiber?

Yes. The lip is cured from pre-preg carbon fiber in an autoclave at high temperature, with a 2x2 twill surface over a 3K weave and a UV-resistant clear coat over the top rather than a bare resin gloss.

What does it actually change on the road?

It takes front-end lift out, which shows up as a nose that stays planted at the speeds a GT-R reaches between corners. Below those speeds it reads as an appearance change. On track, and inside the usage limits above, it is doing real aerodynamic work.

Description

APR Performance Carbon Front Lip for DBA-R35 Nissan GT-R

APR Performance’s Carbon Front Lip for DBA-R35 Nissan GT-R is a circuit part, and that is worth saying before anything else about it. APR builds this lip for road course use and states it is not meant for sustained high-speed running, because the panel closes off the front bumper ducting that feeds the brakes and the pressure building behind it has nowhere to go. Used the way it was designed to be used, it does what a splitter should. The panel is cured from pre-preg carbon fiber in an autoclave at high temperature, finished in a 2×2 twill over a 3K weave, and it pulls front-end lift out at the speeds a GT-R reaches between corners, which is exactly where the nose otherwise starts to feel light. The mounting holes arrive pre-drilled for the factory bumper and the stainless hardware is in the box.

Pre-Preg Carbon Fiber Construction

The lip is laid up in pre-preg carbon fiber and cured in an autoclave at high temperature rather than laid up wet, which is what gets the stiffness high enough to hold an aerodynamic shape under load instead of flexing at the speeds where the shape has to work. The visible surface is a 2×2 twill over a 3K weave, and a UV-resistant clear coat goes over the top so the finish does not need sealing after it arrives.

Fitting

Mounting holes are pre-drilled to the factory front bumper pattern and APR supplies stainless machine screws, washers and nuts, so a clean install is a matter of offering the panel up and checking alignment rather than measuring and cutting. The lip is cut for the facelift bumper, which is the DBA-R35 from 2012, and it will not line up on the earlier car.

Notes

Built for road course and circuit use; APR states this lip is not meant for sustained high-speed or top-speed running
The Front Lip for DBA-R35 closes off the front bumper ducting to the brakes. Where that ducting is not closed off or redirected, pressure builds with no route to escape and can damage the lip, the bumper and the components behind them.
Fits the facelift DBA-R35 bumper only

Additional Information

The Bulletproof Automotive website contains many thousands of products purchased in multiple different currencies. All of the prices are entered manually and accurately at the time of entry. Due to the consistently fluctuating international exchange rates, at times prices may not be able to be honored at their original intended rate. Rest assured that any order you place on line will be at zero risk to you in this area. If in the event your order cannot be fulfilled at the original intended website price we will offer you a 100% refund, no questions asked. Shipping Policy

Items that are in stock in the US, either at Bulletproof’s warehouse or at a supplier’s warehouse, are generally delivered within 7-10 days. Special order items from overseas take considerably longer. As a courtesy Bulletproof offers delivery estimates to our customers which take into consideration manufacturer availability and shipping schedule. These estimates represent our best guess based on previous orders from the manufacturer and do not in any way imply a guaranteed delivery window. Many manufacturers work in a “just in time” inventory system and often take 2-20+ weeks to produce an item once an order is submitted. All deliverable items are then sent to our Japanese warehouse. Bulletproof ships a minimum of one full ocean freight container every month from Japan, oftentimes more than one a month. Ocean freight takes an average of 4 weeks. Typically it breaks down to one week in Japan for paperwork and customs, two weeks by boat and one week in US customs/clearance. Due to the wide number of variables between manufacturer and shipping schedules, delivery estimates are simply just that – estimates. We attempt to estimate conservatively and we usually deliver faster than our estimates suggest. It is not Bulletproof’s policy to guarantee delivery time of any special order item, this is impossible for us to do. By ordering you acknowledge that there is no required delivery ETA and an order may not be canceled or altered due to manufacturing or shipping delays, all ETA’s are provided as a best guess only. BP Pricing Difference

We do pricing a little differently on our JDM brands and we believe in making things simple and clear. No hidden fees or surcharges. Every price you see includes the shipping cost to our office in Los Angeles, California and all the associated taxes/duties/fees for bringing the products into the US. The only shipping you ever pay is from our facility in the US to your location. Be wary of resellers that don’t include the cost of international shipping in their pricing on JDM parts. While we believe we’ll always have the lowest all-in price on JDM products, we offer a price match guarantee for all authentic parts purchased from authorized dealers as well. For many international customers, it’s much more affordable to ship from the USA than from Japan directly, as the air freight and ocean freight costs are typically much less. However, for customers looking to ship directly from Japan outside of North America, or domestically in Japan, we can provide pricing specifically for that scenario. Please do not hesitate to contact us with any pricing questions or concerns. Please email us at sales@bulletproofautomotive.com with any inquiries.
