AL13 Flow+Technik Series FR86 Wheel

AL13’s Flow+Technik Series pairs modern multi-spoke styling with a lightweight, precision-built approach. Each wheel starts as a forged 6061-T6 monoblock engineered for strength, reduced mass, and a clean concave profile, then finished through detailed CNC machining and hands-on refinement. The designs are shaped to support sharper response and better control by keeping the face open for brake cooling and caliper clearance while maintaining a rigid spoke structure for daily driving and aggressive use. Every set is produced to AL13 run-out standards prior to final assembly.

AL13 Manufacturing

• Engineering: AL13 Wheels are designed and built in Southern California with an emphasis on precise design, controlled engineering, and skilled craftsmanship to support long-term performance. With more than 70 years of combined forged wheel experience, each set is produced in-house and validated with FEA testing to balance lightweight construction with durability and strength.
  
• Material: APP Forged Wheels use a one-piece 6061-T6 aerospace forging process to create a lightweight, high-strength wheel without porosity, welded joints, or weak points. High pressure and heat restructure the aluminum into a multi-directional forged grain, then spin forging strengthens the rim by aligning grain flow with real operating loads for added durability.
  
• Profile: Lathe turning shapes the forging from both sides to achieve maximum concavity while pulling out the most weight. In this step, over 70% of the original material is removed to improve strength-to-weight efficiency.
  
• Milling: After profiling, each forging is CNC milled using dedicated tool paths and long machine cycles that can run up to eight hours per wheel to hold tight precision. Once machining is complete, the wheel is hand-finished through filing, deburring, buffing, and ceramic bead high-luster polishing, then checked against a detailed inspection list before coating prep.
  
• Prep: Brushing and polishing are the most time-intensive finishing steps and are offered as upgraded options across the AL13 lineup. Brushed finishes bring out the forged aluminum grain, while touch-less high-luster ceramic polishing delivers a true mirror-like surface.
  
• Finishing: AL13 finish and assembly focus on consistency and real-world smoothness, using finishing partners in Brisbane, Tokyo, and Hamburg for brushed or polished bases with transparent powder coats in gloss, satin, or texture options. Each wheel is run-out checked and only passes QC under 0.010″, with many sets testing closer to 0.007″, then assembled using calibrated Digital Snap-On torque wrenches, marked fasteners, and final sign-off before packaging.
  

Finishes

• AL13 offers two finish paths, Solid and Premium Transparent, with broad color flexibility and multiple sheen options. Choose gloss, matte, satin, or textured finishes to match the build and highlight the wheel’s design details.
