AL13 Flow+Technik Series FR80 Wheel

AL13’s Flow+Technik Series pairs a modern multi-spoke look with lightweight performance and tight manufacturing standards. Each wheel starts as a forged monoblock and is engineered for strength, lower mass, and a pronounced concave profile, then finished with detailed CNC work and hands-on refinement. This series is designed to keep the face open for brake cooling and caliper clearance while maintaining the rigidity needed for daily driving and aggressive use. Every wheel is machined from 6061-T6 forged aluminum, run through extended milling cycles, and verified against AL13 run-out specs before final assembly.

AL13 Manufacturing

• Engineering: AL13 Wheels are developed end to end in Southern California with an emphasis on precise design, disciplined engineering, and skilled craftsmanship focused on long-term performance. With more than 70 years of combined forged wheel experience in-house, each set is controlled through the full process and validated with FEA testing to balance weight, durability, and strength.
  
• Material: APP Forged Wheels use a one-piece 6061-T6 aerospace forging method to create a strong, lightweight wheel without porosity, welds, or joint lines. Heat and pressure reshape the aluminum into a forged grain structure, then spin-forging strengthens the rim by aligning grain flow with real operating loads for higher integrity and durability.
  
• Profile: Lathe turning shapes the forging from both sides to build concavity while pulling out as much weight as possible. More than 70 percent of the original material is removed during this stage to maximize strength-to-weight.
  
• Milling: After profiling, each forging moves to CNC milling where the final design is cut using dedicated tooling and programmed tool paths, with machining cycles that can take up to eight hours per wheel. The raw milled aluminum is then hand-finished through filing, deburring, buffing, and ceramic bead high-luster polishing, followed by a detailed inspection before any coating is applied.
  
• Prep: Brushing and polishing are the most time-intensive parts of the finish process and are available as upgrades across the AL13 lineup. Brushing highlights the forged grain, while touch-less high-luster ceramic polishing delivers a mirror-style surface.
  
• Finishing: AL13 finishes and assembles each wheel to strict standards, working with selected finishing partners in Brisbane, Tokyo, and Hamburg for brushed or polished bases and transparent powder coats in gloss, satin, or textured options. During assembly, run-out is checked and wheels must measure under 0.010 inch, with many testing closer to 0.007 inch to reduce the chance of high-speed vibration. Hardware is torqued using calibrated Digital Snap-On torque wrenches, then marked and signed off by the assembly team before packaging.
  

Finishes

• AL13 Wheels offers two finish lines, Solid and Premium Transparent, each available in a wide range of colors and sheen options. Choices include gloss, matte, satin, and textured finishes depending on the look and maintenance you want.
