AEM Cold-Air Intake System
The Performance Air Intake System enhances engine performance by enabling increased airflow compared to the restrictive factory air intake housing. It undergoes meticulous design, tuning, and dyno-testing to maximize horsepower and torque output. Air is drawn into the system through an oversized AEM Dryflow synthetic washable air filter, ensuring superior airflow, filtration, and overall performance. Crafted from mandrel-bent aluminum with a durable gunmetal gray powder-coated finish, the air intake tube ensures durability and efficiency. Additionally, a custom-shaped heat shield with a carbon fiber lid is provided for optimal performance. The AEM Dryflow air filter, featuring a tapered cylinder shape, is constructed from oil-free synthetic filter media, allowing for up to 100,000 miles of use before cleaning is required.
AEM was responsible for the development of one of the initial Packaged Air Induction Systems. Its design stemmed from the company’s experience in dyno testing, comprehensive understanding of intake energy dynamics, and involvement in racing at the Battle of the Imports. AEM benefited from its close ties to Nissan, TRD, and Honda, which provided a unique advantage. Being situated alongside racers and collaborating with OES engineers enabled AEM to grasp both the practical and theoretical aspects of engine performance. The debut of AEM’s first air intake kit for sale occurred in 1994, positioned as a “Do-It-Yourself” enhancement for the Honda CRX, marking the inception of a new tradition. This intake kit opened avenues for individuals to affordably purchase cars and modify them for increased torque and horsepower. Since the Battle of the Imports, AEM has maintained its leadership position in developing precision-tuned induction systems, with the company’s portfolio now encompassing hundreds of such systems. AEM continues to set the benchmark in this field.
