What is in the G Series Speed Sensor Pro Kit?

Garrett lists a speed sensor, a wiring loom and a bolt for this Speed Sensor Pro Kit, with no gauge. The bolt retains the O-ring sealed sensor in the compressor housing port. A data logger or engine management system with a 5 volt sensor supply is needed to read the signal.

Can the ECU limit turbo speed with this kit?

Garrett states that its speed sensor kit could be used with an aftermarket ECU to limit compressor speed. That depends on the ECU accepting the frequency input and the calibration being written to use it. The kit supplies the signal, and the engine management does the limiting.

Does this kit fit the GTX3582R Gen II?

No. The GTX28, GTX30 and GTX35 Gen II use the threaded GT and GTX sensor, sold as the Pro kit 781328-0002. This G Series version is for G Series turbochargers and the GTX47, GTX50 and GTX55 Gen II, according to the Garrett accessories table.

How is the signal converted to shaft speed?

The sensor produces a square wave at one eighth of the blade passing frequency. Garrett gives the conversion by compressor blade count in its instructions, and for a 12-blade wheel the logger multiplies the frequency by 40. Check the blade count of the compressor wheel before setting up the channel.

Why choose Pro over Street?

The Pro kit suits a car whose speed data goes to a logger or ECU and that has no need for a separate gauge. The Street kit, 781328-0003 for G Series, adds the Garrett gauge with its five minute maximum speed recall. Both G Series kits use the O-ring sensor and retaining bolt.

Description

Garrett Speed Sensor Pro Kit, G Series Models without Gauge

Garrett’s Speed Sensor Pro Kit for G Series models sends compressor wheel speed from a Garrett G Series turbocharger, or a GTX47, GTX50 or GTX55 Gen II, straight to a data logger or engine management system, with no gauge in the box. Garrett lists the sensor, wiring loom and bolt as the kit contents. The sensor seals with an O-ring and is retained by a bolt, and it runs from a 5 volt supply provided by the logger. It is the right kit for a calibrated car where the ECU can log or limit shaft speed, and the wrong one for an owner who wants a cabin gauge.

Using the Signal

Garrett states that all of its speed sensor kits are compatible with data loggers and that the data can estimate engine airflow without a flow bench. With an aftermarket ECU, the signal can be used to limit compressor speed and keep the turbocharger inside its map.

Features

Speed sensor, wiring loom and bolt, with no gauge
O-ring sealed sensor held by a bolt torqued to 5 to 6 Nm (44 to 53 in-lb)
Square wave output at one eighth of blade passing frequency for logger or ECU input
Can be paired with an aftermarket ECU to limit compressor speed, per Garrett

What’s Included

Speed sensor
Wiring loom
Bolt

Applications

The Speed Sensor Pro Kit is not vehicle specific. Garrett lists this version by turbocharger family:

Garrett families: G Series, GTX47 Gen II, GTX50 Gen II and GTX55 Gen II
Not for: GT, GTW, GTX and GTX28, GTX30 and GTX35 Gen II turbochargers
Required: Data logger or engine management system with a 5 volt sensor supply

Notes

No gauge and no data logger are included; the Street version with a gauge is listed among the Garrett speed sensor kits
GT and GTX turbochargers take the threaded GT and GTX Pro kit instead
Garrett recommends installation by a qualified automotive technician
Allow the engine to cool before installation, as turbocharger parts can be extremely hot

Shipping Policy

Items that are in stock in the US, either at Bulletproof’s warehouse or at a supplier’s warehouse, are generally delivered within 7-10 days. Special order items from overseas take considerably longer. As a courtesy Bulletproof offers delivery estimates to our customers which take into consideration manufacturer availability and shipping schedule. These estimates represent our best guess based on previous orders from the manufacturer and do not in any way imply a guaranteed delivery window. Many manufacturers work in a “just in time” inventory system and often take 2-20+ weeks to produce an item once an order is submitted. All deliverable items are then sent to our Japanese warehouse. Bulletproof ships a minimum of one full ocean freight container every month from Japan, oftentimes more than one a month. Ocean freight takes an average of 4 weeks. Typically it breaks down to one week in Japan for paperwork and customs, two weeks by boat and one week in US customs/clearance. Due to the wide number of variables between manufacturer and shipping schedules, delivery estimates are simply just that – estimates. We attempt to estimate conservatively and we usually deliver faster than our estimates suggest. It is not Bulletproof’s policy to guarantee delivery time of any special order item, this is impossible for us to do. By ordering you acknowledge that there is no required delivery ETA and an order may not be canceled or altered due to manufacturing or shipping delays, all ETA’s are provided as a best guess only. BP Pricing Difference

We do pricing a little differently on our JDM brands and we believe in making things simple and clear. No hidden fees or surcharges. Every price you see includes the shipping cost to our office in Los Angeles, California and all the associated taxes/duties/fees for bringing the products into the US. The only shipping you ever pay is from our facility in the US to your location. Be wary of resellers that don’t include the cost of international shipping in their pricing on JDM parts. While we believe we’ll always have the lowest all-in price on JDM products, we offer a price match guarantee for all authentic parts purchased from authorized dealers as well. For many international customers, it’s much more affordable to ship from the USA than from Japan directly, as the air freight and ocean freight costs are typically much less. However, for customers looking to ship directly from Japan outside of North America, or domestically in Japan, we can provide pricing specifically for that scenario. Please do not hesitate to contact us with any pricing questions or concerns. Please email us at sales@bulletproofautomotive.com with any inquiries.
