Is the GT2252 Complete Turbocharger a full turbo or just a CHRA?

A full turbocharger. Garrett lists part 452187-5006S as the GT2252 turbo and states that it is sold as a complete unit including the turbine kit and actuator. It arrives with compressor housing, turbine housing and wastegate actuator fitted around the center section.

How much horsepower can the GT2252 make?

Garrett rates the GT2252 Complete Turbocharger at 150 to 260 horsepower on 1.7L to 2.5L engines. Garrett bases the number on compressor choke flow and calls it potential flywheel horsepower, so fuel, boost, intercooling and the calibration decide the real result on a given engine.

Do I need an external wastegate?

No. The GT2252 uses an internally wastegated 0.67 A/R turbine housing with its own actuator, so boost is controlled at the turbocharger. That keeps installation simpler than a free float setup and suits manifolds that have no external wastegate flange.

GT2252 or GT2554R: which should I choose?

The GT2252 is the simpler option with original GT aerodynamics, a journal bearing center and a 150 to 260 horsepower rating. The GT2554R moves to a ball bearing, water cooled center section for sharper response at a similar 170 to 270 horsepower rating. Choose the GT2554R if response matters most.

Will the GT2252 Complete Turbocharger fit my engine?

It is not vehicle specific. Garrett sizes it for 1.7L to 2.5L engines and publishes a flange diagram for the compressor and turbine connections. Compare that diagram with the existing manifold, downpipe and intake piping, and allow for oil and water lines, before ordering the turbocharger.

Description

Garrett GT2252 Complete Turbocharger, 0.67 A/R Internal Wastegate

Garrett’s GT2252 Complete Turbocharger is a full GT2252, not a bare center section: Garrett sells part 452187-5006S assembled with its compressor housing, an internally wastegated 0.67 A/R turbine housing and the wastegate actuator. It uses original GT Series aerodynamics with a 40mm compressor inducer and a 50mm turbine inducer, and Garrett rates it at 150 to 260 horsepower on 1.7L to 2.5L engines. That suits a mildly modified four-cylinder that needs a dependable replacement or a small step up from a stock turbocharger. Builders aiming past 260 horsepower, or wanting ball bearing response, should look at the GT2554R or GT2560R.

Original GT Series

The GT2252 belongs to Garrett’s original GT Series and runs a journal bearing center section. The internally wastegated turbine housing means no external wastegate is needed, which keeps installation simple on engines that do not already have a wastegate flange on the manifold.

Features

Sold as a complete turbocharger, including the turbine kit and actuator
Internally wastegated turbine housing, 0.67 A/R
40mm compressor inducer with original GT Series aerodynamics

Specifications

Compressor inducer and exducer: 40mm and 52mm
Compressor housing A/R: 0.51
Turbine inducer and exducer: 50mm and 43mm
Turbine trim: 72
Turbine housing A/R: 0.67
Wastegate: Internal, with actuator

Applications

The GT2252 Complete Turbocharger is not vehicle specific. Garrett sizes it by engine and output:

Engine displacement: 1.7L to 2.5L
Power range: 150 to 260 horsepower (Garrett rating)

Notes

This is a complete turbocharger, not a CHRA on its own
The Garrett speed sensor kit is sold separately
Garrett publishes a flange diagram for the GT2252; check it against the manifold and downpipe before ordering
A calibration suited to the turbocharger is recommended, since Garrett states results depend on vehicle modifications and tuning

Shipping Policy

Items that are in stock in the US, either at Bulletproof’s warehouse or at a supplier’s warehouse, are generally delivered within 7-10 days. Special order items from overseas take considerably longer. As a courtesy Bulletproof offers delivery estimates to our customers which take into consideration manufacturer availability and shipping schedule. These estimates represent our best guess based on previous orders from the manufacturer and do not in any way imply a guaranteed delivery window. Many manufacturers work in a “just in time” inventory system and often take 2-20+ weeks to produce an item once an order is submitted. All deliverable items are then sent to our Japanese warehouse. Bulletproof ships a minimum of one full ocean freight container every month from Japan, oftentimes more than one a month. Ocean freight takes an average of 4 weeks. Typically it breaks down to one week in Japan for paperwork and customs, two weeks by boat and one week in US customs/clearance. Due to the wide number of variables between manufacturer and shipping schedules, delivery estimates are simply just that – estimates. We attempt to estimate conservatively and we usually deliver faster than our estimates suggest. It is not Bulletproof’s policy to guarantee delivery time of any special order item, this is impossible for us to do. By ordering you acknowledge that there is no required delivery ETA and an order may not be canceled or altered due to manufacturing or shipping delays, all ETA’s are provided as a best guess only. BP Pricing Difference

We do pricing a little differently on our JDM brands and we believe in making things simple and clear. No hidden fees or surcharges. Every price you see includes the shipping cost to our office in Los Angeles, California and all the associated taxes/duties/fees for bringing the products into the US. The only shipping you ever pay is from our facility in the US to your location. Be wary of resellers that don’t include the cost of international shipping in their pricing on JDM parts. While we believe we’ll always have the lowest all-in price on JDM products, we offer a price match guarantee for all authentic parts purchased from authorized dealers as well. For many international customers, it’s much more affordable to ship from the USA than from Japan directly, as the air freight and ocean freight costs are typically much less. However, for customers looking to ship directly from Japan outside of North America, or domestically in Japan, we can provide pricing specifically for that scenario. Please do not hesitate to contact us with any pricing questions or concerns. Please email us at sales@bulletproofautomotive.com with any inquiries.
