Is the 1.28 A/R V-band G42 Turbine Housing Kit right for a 7.0L V8?

Often, yes. The 1.28 A/R G42 Turbine Housing Kit is the largest G42 size, and a 7.0L engine produces the exhaust flow to spool it while gaining from the lower backpressure. Garrett rates the G42 cores for engines up to 7.0L, and the G42-1450 to 8.0L.

Is there a twin-scroll 1.28 A/R G42 housing?

Yes. Garrett offers the 1.28 A/R G42 housing with a divided T4 inlet as part 757707-0016. This listing is the V-band inlet version for single-entry manifolds. The two differ only at the inlet flange, so pick by the manifold on the engine.

How much power can these cores make?

Garrett rates the cores from 475 horsepower at the low end to 1585 horsepower for the G-Series II G42-1585. Those ratings are calculated from compressor choke flow and represent potential flywheel horsepower, so fuel, boost and calibration set the real result.

Does the GXR42-71 fit this housing?

Yes. Garrett lists the GXR42-71 super core, part 952766-5006S, with the same six G42 turbine kits, including this one. Garrett rates that core at up to 1300 horsepower on engines from 1.4L to 7.0L, with a maximum turbocharger speed of 120,000 rpm.

Do I need an external wastegate?

Yes. The housing has no internal wastegate port or actuator. Boost is controlled by an external wastegate on the exhaust manifold, and with a large 1.28 A/R housing the gate needs enough capacity to hold boost at high exhaust flow.

Description

Garrett G42 Turbine Housing Kit, 1.28 A/R V-Band Inlet and Outlet

Garrett’s G42 Turbine Housing Kit in 1.28 A/R is the highest-flowing single-scroll housing for the G42, with V-band joints at both ends, a stainless steel casting and no internal wastegate. Garrett lists it for nine cores, and it pays off most with the 79mm-compressor G42-1450 and G42-1585 or the GXR42-72 on a large engine that revs. It lowers backpressure at the top of the rev range. Below about 4.0L, or on a street engine that spends its time at low rpm, boost arrives late, and the 1.01 or 1.15 A/R is the better buy.

Features

Largest V-band size in the G42 Turbine Housing Kit range
V-band inlet and outlet, clockable to suit the manifold and downpipe
Free-float design for an external wastegate

Garrett GXR42-72 G-XRace: 934173-5002S super core

Notes

An external wastegate is required, because this housing has no internal wastegate
The G42 or GXR42 super core is sold separately
Garrett publishes a maximum turbocharger speed for each core, from 109,000 rpm on the GXR42-68 and GXR42-72 to 120,000 rpm on the G-Series II cores and the GXR42-71; running above it is at the owner’s risk
Smaller sizes and divided T4 versions are listed under G42 turbine housings
Garrett does not publish a hardware list for this kit; confirm clamps and gaskets before ordering

Additional Information

The Bulletproof Automotive website contains many thousands of products purchased in multiple different currencies. All of the prices are entered manually and accurately at the time of entry. Due to the consistently fluctuating international exchange rates, at times prices may not be able to be honored at their original intended rate. Rest assured that any order you place on line will be at zero risk to you in this area. If in the event your order cannot be fulfilled at the original intended website price we will offer you a 100% refund, no questions asked. Shipping Policy

Items that are in stock in the US, either at Bulletproof’s warehouse or at a supplier’s warehouse, are generally delivered within 7-10 days. Special order items from overseas take considerably longer. As a courtesy Bulletproof offers delivery estimates to our customers which take into consideration manufacturer availability and shipping schedule. These estimates represent our best guess based on previous orders from the manufacturer and do not in any way imply a guaranteed delivery window. Many manufacturers work in a “just in time” inventory system and often take 2-20+ weeks to produce an item once an order is submitted. All deliverable items are then sent to our Japanese warehouse. Bulletproof ships a minimum of one full ocean freight container every month from Japan, oftentimes more than one a month. Ocean freight takes an average of 4 weeks. Typically it breaks down to one week in Japan for paperwork and customs, two weeks by boat and one week in US customs/clearance. Due to the wide number of variables between manufacturer and shipping schedules, delivery estimates are simply just that – estimates. We attempt to estimate conservatively and we usually deliver faster than our estimates suggest. It is not Bulletproof’s policy to guarantee delivery time of any special order item, this is impossible for us to do. By ordering you acknowledge that there is no required delivery ETA and an order may not be canceled or altered due to manufacturing or shipping delays, all ETA’s are provided as a best guess only. BP Pricing Difference

We do pricing a little differently on our JDM brands and we believe in making things simple and clear. No hidden fees or surcharges. Every price you see includes the shipping cost to our office in Los Angeles, California and all the associated taxes/duties/fees for bringing the products into the US. The only shipping you ever pay is from our facility in the US to your location. Be wary of resellers that don’t include the cost of international shipping in their pricing on JDM parts. While we believe we’ll always have the lowest all-in price on JDM products, we offer a price match guarantee for all authentic parts purchased from authorized dealers as well. For many international customers, it’s much more affordable to ship from the USA than from Japan directly, as the air freight and ocean freight costs are typically much less. However, for customers looking to ship directly from Japan outside of North America, or domestically in Japan, we can provide pricing specifically for that scenario. Please do not hesitate to contact us with any pricing questions or concerns. Please email us at sales@bulletproofautomotive.com with any inquiries.
