What is the GTX5544R Gen II Super Core with the 102mm inducer?

It is the smaller of two GTX5544R Gen II Super Core options: a 102mm inducer, 50 trim, on a 144mm compressor wheel in a 0.96 A/R housing, over Garrett 112mm turbine. Garrett rates it at 1400 to 2700 horsepower and up to 245 lbs/min. The turbine housing is sold separately.

How does Garrett calculate the 2700 horsepower figure?

Garrett bases its ratings strictly on the choke flow of the compressor map, which represents potential flywheel horsepower. Reaching the upper end takes a large engine with fuel, boost, intercooling and a calibration to match, so the rating is a ceiling for planning rather than an expected result.

GTX5544R or GTX5533R: which is right?

Both share the 112mm turbine and GTX55 housings. The GTX5533R tops out at 2500 horsepower with its 98mm inducer, while the GTX5544R moves to a 144mm exducer and starts at 1400 horsepower. If the target is under 2200 horsepower, a GTX5533R will usually respond better.

Which housing should I order with it?

Garrett lists GTX55 turbine housings with V-band inlets in 1.24 and 1.40 A/R, including long-outlet versions with cross bolts, and with T6 inlets in 1.12, 1.24 and 1.40 A/R. Every one is free float, so the exhaust system needs an external wastegate.

What is the maximum speed for the GTX5544R?

Garrett sets 74,500 rpm as the maximum allowable speed, lower than the GTX5533R because the 144mm wheel is larger. Running above it is at the risk of the owner and can cause damage. The machined port takes a Garrett speed sensor, sold separately, to keep watch on shaft speed.

Description

Garrett GTX5544R Gen II Super Core, 102mm Compressor Inducer

Garrett’s GTX5544R Gen II Super Core with the 102mm inducer is Garrett’s step beyond the GTX5533R, a 144mm Gen II compressor wheel that Garrett rates at 1400 to 2700 horsepower with flow up to 245 lbs/min on engines from 3.0L to 12.0L. It shares the 112mm turbine and GTX55 housings with the GTX5533R, so it is the natural move for a race engine that has outgrown a 98mm GTX5533R. It is the wrong choice for anything below about 1500 horsepower, where it will be slow to respond.

Compressor Housing and Backplate

Garrett lists a new O-ring between the backplate and the compressor housing on the GTX5544R Gen II, along with a lightweight billet backplate and a V-band compressor outlet. The 0.96 A/R housing has an improved ported shroud for surge resistance and a fully machined speed sensor port that ships plugged.

Features

102mm inducer, 50 trim, on a 144mm Gen II compressor wheel
Backplate to compressor housing O-ring, new on Gen II
Shares GTX55 turbine housings with the GTX5533R

Specifications

Compressor inducer and exducer: 102mm and 144mm
Compressor trim: 50
Compressor housing A/R: 0.96
Turbine inducer and exducer: 112mm and 102mm
Turbine trim: 84
Compressor flow: Up to 245 lbs/min
Maximum turbocharger speed: 74,500 rpm

Applications

The GTX5544R Gen II Super Core is not vehicle specific. Garrett sizes it by engine and output:

Engine displacement: 3.0L to 12.0L
Power range: 1400 to 2700 horsepower (Garrett rating)
Garrett GTX55 turbine kits: V-band inlet in 1.24 or 1.40 A/R, standard or long outlet with cross bolts; T6 inlet in 1.12, 1.24 or 1.40 A/R; all with a V-band outlet

Notes

The turbine housing is not included; Garrett lists seven GTX55 turbine housings for 5533 and 5544 cores
Every GTX55 housing Garrett lists is free float, so an external wastegate is required
The Garrett speed sensor kit is sold separately
Garrett states that running above 74,500 rpm is at the owner’s risk and can cause damage and premature failure
The 106mm GTX5544R Gen II is also listed

Additional Information

The Bulletproof Automotive website contains many thousands of products purchased in multiple different currencies. All of the prices are entered manually and accurately at the time of entry. Due to the consistently fluctuating international exchange rates, at times prices may not be able to be honored at their original intended rate. Rest assured that any order you place on line will be at zero risk to you in this area. If in the event your order cannot be fulfilled at the original intended website price we will offer you a 100% refund, no questions asked. Shipping Policy

Items that are in stock in the US, either at Bulletproof’s warehouse or at a supplier’s warehouse, are generally delivered within 7-10 days. Special order items from overseas take considerably longer. As a courtesy Bulletproof offers delivery estimates to our customers which take into consideration manufacturer availability and shipping schedule. These estimates represent our best guess based on previous orders from the manufacturer and do not in any way imply a guaranteed delivery window. Many manufacturers work in a “just in time” inventory system and often take 2-20+ weeks to produce an item once an order is submitted. All deliverable items are then sent to our Japanese warehouse. Bulletproof ships a minimum of one full ocean freight container every month from Japan, oftentimes more than one a month. Ocean freight takes an average of 4 weeks. Typically it breaks down to one week in Japan for paperwork and customs, two weeks by boat and one week in US customs/clearance. Due to the wide number of variables between manufacturer and shipping schedules, delivery estimates are simply just that – estimates. We attempt to estimate conservatively and we usually deliver faster than our estimates suggest. It is not Bulletproof’s policy to guarantee delivery time of any special order item, this is impossible for us to do. By ordering you acknowledge that there is no required delivery ETA and an order may not be canceled or altered due to manufacturing or shipping delays, all ETA’s are provided as a best guess only. BP Pricing Difference

We do pricing a little differently on our JDM brands and we believe in making things simple and clear. No hidden fees or surcharges. Every price you see includes the shipping cost to our office in Los Angeles, California and all the associated taxes/duties/fees for bringing the products into the US. The only shipping you ever pay is from our facility in the US to your location. Be wary of resellers that don’t include the cost of international shipping in their pricing on JDM parts. While we believe we’ll always have the lowest all-in price on JDM products, we offer a price match guarantee for all authentic parts purchased from authorized dealers as well. For many international customers, it’s much more affordable to ship from the USA than from Japan directly, as the air freight and ocean freight costs are typically much less. However, for customers looking to ship directly from Japan outside of North America, or domestically in Japan, we can provide pricing specifically for that scenario. Please do not hesitate to contact us with any pricing questions or concerns. Please email us at sales@bulletproofautomotive.com with any inquiries.
