Is the 88mm GTX5020R Gen II Super Core the largest GTX50 option?

Yes. The 88mm GTX5020R Gen II Super Core carries the highest rating Garrett gives any GTX50 Gen II core, 1075 to 2050 horsepower on 2.8L to 11.0L engines. Garrett calculates that from compressor choke flow as potential flywheel horsepower, so only an engine built for it will get there.

Who should buy the 88mm instead of the 76mm or 80mm?

Builders who need maximum airflow and can accept later boost, such as a large V8 drag car on race fuel. The 54 trim wheel flows the most of the three. A car that sees the street, or an engine below about 6.0L, usually works better with the smaller inducers.

Which turbine housing pairs with the 88mm GTX5020R?

Any of the three GTX50 kits Garrett lists: 0.96, 1.23 and 1.39 A/R, with a T6 inlet and V-band outlet. A build chasing the top of the 2050 horsepower rating typically leans toward the larger A/R to keep exhaust back pressure down. Each housing needs an external wastegate.

Will Gen II piping lengths differ from my Gen I setup?

Yes. Garrett states the Gen II compressor housing adds 6mm at the outlet and 10mm at the inlet, so it is not outline interchangeable with Gen I. The 107mm outlet diameter is unchanged, so couplers stay the same size, but pipe lengths and brackets may need adjustment.

What rpm limit does Garrett set?

Garrett lists 93,000 rpm as the maximum allowable speed for the GTX5020R Gen II and warns that running above it is at the risk of the owner. On an 88mm build pushing high boost, a Garrett flange-style speed sensor, part 781328-0003 or 781328-0004, is strongly worth fitting.

Description

Garrett GTX5020R Gen II Super Core, 88mm Compressor Inducer

Garrett’s GTX5020R Gen II Super Core with the 88mm compressor inducer is the top of the GTX50 Gen II line, a 54 trim wheel that Garrett rates at 1075 to 2050 horsepower on engines from 2.8L to 11.0L. It is a drag racing and maximum-effort part: a big-cube V8 on high boost and race fuel can use it, while a street-driven car will find it slow to wake up. Builds that land between 1100 and 1700 horsepower are usually better served by the 76mm GTX5020R or the GTX5009R.

Compressor and Turbine

The 88mm inducer sits on Garrett’s 120mm Gen II wheel, which Garrett credits with 9 percent more flow and 30 percent lower inertia than the GTX5018R. The compressor housing is a larger 0.88 A/R volute. On the exhaust side the GTX5020R runs the 99mm, 84 trim GTX50 turbine, the largest turbine in this part of the range.

Features

88mm inducer, 54 trim, the largest GTX5020R wheel
120mm exducer, 2mm larger than Gen I
Port for Garrett flange-style speed sensors

Specifications

Compressor inducer and exducer: 88mm and 120mm
Compressor trim: 54
Compressor housing A/R: 0.88
Turbine inducer and exducer: 99mm and 91mm
Turbine trim: 84
Maximum turbocharger speed: 93,000 rpm

Applications

The GTX5020R Gen II Super Core is not vehicle specific. Garrett sizes this version by engine and output:

Engine displacement: 2.8L to 11.0L
Power range: 1075 to 2050 horsepower (Garrett rating)
Garrett GTX50 turbine kits: 0.96, 1.23 and 1.39 A/R, T6 inlet, V-band outlet, free float

Notes

The turbine housing is not included; Garrett lists the GT50 and GTX50 turbine housing kits for this core
All three GTX50 housings Garrett lists are free float and need an external wastegate
The speed sensor port accepts only Garrett’s flange-style sensors, 781328-0003 Street or 781328-0004 Pro, sold separately as Garrett speed sensor kits
Garrett states that running above 93,000 rpm is at the owner’s risk and can cause damage and premature failure
The Gen II compressor housing is 6mm longer at the outlet and 10mm longer at the inlet than Gen I, so Garrett states it is not outline interchangeable with Gen I

The Bulletproof Automotive website contains many thousands of products purchased in multiple different currencies. All of the prices are entered manually and accurately at the time of entry. Due to the consistently fluctuating international exchange rates, at times prices may not be able to be honored at their original intended rate. Shipping Policy

Items that are in stock in the US, either at Bulletproof’s warehouse or at a supplier’s warehouse, are generally delivered within 7-10 days. Special order items from overseas take considerably longer. As a courtesy Bulletproof offers delivery estimates to our customers which take into consideration manufacturer availability and shipping schedule. These estimates represent our best guess based on previous orders from the manufacturer and do not in any way imply a guaranteed delivery window. Many manufacturers work in a “just in time” inventory system and often take 2-20+ weeks to produce an item once an order is submitted. All deliverable items are then sent to our Japanese warehouse. Bulletproof ships a minimum of one full ocean freight container every month from Japan, oftentimes more than one a month. Ocean freight takes an average of 4 weeks. Typically it breaks down to one week in Japan for paperwork and customs, two weeks by boat and one week in US customs/clearance. Due to the wide number of variables between manufacturer and shipping schedules, delivery estimates are simply just that – estimates. We attempt to estimate conservatively and we usually deliver faster than our estimates suggest. It is not Bulletproof’s policy to guarantee delivery time of any special order item, this is impossible for us to do. By ordering you acknowledge that there is no required delivery ETA and an order may not be canceled or altered due to manufacturing or shipping delays, all ETA’s are provided as a best guess only. BP Pricing Difference

We do pricing a little differently on our JDM brands and we believe in making things simple and clear. No hidden fees or surcharges. Every price you see includes the shipping cost to our office in Los Angeles, California and all the associated taxes/duties/fees for bringing the products into the US. The only shipping you ever pay is from our facility in the US to your location. Be wary of resellers that don’t include the cost of international shipping in their pricing on JDM parts. While we believe we’ll always have the lowest all-in price on JDM products, we offer a price match guarantee for all authentic parts purchased from authorized dealers as well. For many international customers, it’s much more affordable to ship from the USA than from Japan directly, as the air freight and ocean freight costs are typically much less. However, for customers looking to ship directly from Japan outside of North America, or domestically in Japan, we can provide pricing specifically for that scenario. Please do not hesitate to contact us with any pricing questions or concerns. Please email us at sales@bulletproofautomotive.com with any inquiries.
