Does the 80mm GTX5020R Gen II Super Core include the turbine housing?

No. Garrett sells the turbine housing apart from the supercore. This GTX5020R Gen II Super Core takes the GTX50 turbine kits in 0.96, 1.23 or 1.39 A/R, all with a T6 inlet and V-band outlet, and all free float, so an external wastegate is required.

How much horsepower will it support?

Garrett gives the 80mm GTX5020R Gen II a rating of 1075 to 2000 horsepower on 2.8L to 11.0L engines. The number is based on compressor choke flow and reflects potential flywheel horsepower, which a build only approaches with the fuel, boost and calibration to match.

Which GTX50 turbine housing A/R suits this core?

The 0.96 A/R housing improves response on the smaller engines in the range, while 1.23 A/R suits most large V8 builds. The 1.39 A/R housing is for very large engines or maximum-power setups where back pressure limits the result. Check the Garrett flow chart for the engine in question.

What maximum speed applies to the 80mm version?

Garrett publishes 93,000 rpm as the maximum allowable speed for the GTX5020R Gen II on its 76mm and 88mm pages. The 80mm page omits the warning, but the core shares the same frame, so BA treats 93,000 rpm as the limit and recommends a speed sensor.

Will my older speed sensor work?

No. Garrett states the Gen II speed sensor port is compatible only with its newer flange-style sensors, part 781328-0003 Street kit or 781328-0004 Pro. Earlier Garrett sensors made for other compressor housings will not fit this port, so order the flange-style kit along with the core.

Description

Garrett GTX5020R Gen II Super Core, 80mm Compressor Inducer

Garrett’s GTX5020R Gen II Super Core in the 80mm inducer size is the middle GTX5020R, a 45 trim Gen II wheel over the 99mm GTX50 turbine, rated by Garrett at 1075 to 2000 horsepower on engines from 2.8L to 11.0L. It suits a large V8 or a big-bore six aimed at around 1500 to 1900 horsepower, where the 76mm wheel would run out of breath and the 88mm would be slower to respond. It is overkill below 1000 horsepower, where a GTX47 frame core makes more sense.

Why Gen II Flows More

Garrett states the Gen II compressor wheel delivers 9 percent more flow and has 30 percent lower inertia than the GTX5018R, on a 120mm exducer that is 2mm larger than Gen I. The housing volute grows to 0.88 A/R, up from 0.69 A/R. The speed sensor port accepts only the newer flange-style Garrett sensors.

Features

80mm inducer, 45 trim, Gen II compressor wheel
Larger 0.88 A/R compressor housing volute
GTX50 turbine kits in 0.96, 1.23 and 1.39 A/R

Specifications

Compressor inducer and exducer: 80mm and 120mm
Compressor trim: 45
Compressor housing A/R: 0.88
Turbine inducer and exducer: 99mm and 91mm
Turbine trim: 84
Maximum turbocharger speed: 93,000 rpm

Applications

The GTX5020R Gen II Super Core is not vehicle specific. Garrett lists it for these engines:

Engine displacement: 2.8L to 11.0L
Power range: 1075 to 2000 horsepower (Garrett rating)
Garrett GTX50 turbine kits: 0.96, 1.23 and 1.39 A/R, T6 inlet, V-band outlet, free float

Notes

The turbine housing is not included; Garrett lists the GT50 and GTX50 turbine housing kits for this core
All three GTX50 housings Garrett lists are free float and need an external wastegate
The speed sensor port accepts only Garrett’s flange-style sensors, 781328-0003 Street or 781328-0004 Pro, sold separately as Garrett speed sensor kits
Garrett states that running above 93,000 rpm is at the owner’s risk and can cause damage and premature failure
The 76mm and 88mm GTX5020R Gen II are also listed

Additional Information

The Bulletproof Automotive website contains many thousands of products purchased in multiple different currencies. All of the prices are entered manually and accurately at the time of entry. Due to the consistently fluctuating international exchange rates, at times prices may not be able to be honored at their original intended rate. Rest assured that any order you place on line will be at zero risk to you in this area. If in the event your order cannot be fulfilled at the original intended website price we will offer you a 100% refund, no questions asked. Shipping Policy

Items that are in stock in the US, either at Bulletproof’s warehouse or at a supplier’s warehouse, are generally delivered within 7-10 days. Special order items from overseas take considerably longer. As a courtesy Bulletproof offers delivery estimates to our customers which take into consideration manufacturer availability and shipping schedule. These estimates represent our best guess based on previous orders from the manufacturer and do not in any way imply a guaranteed delivery window. Many manufacturers work in a “just in time” inventory system and often take 2-20+ weeks to produce an item once an order is submitted. All deliverable items are then sent to our Japanese warehouse. Bulletproof ships a minimum of one full ocean freight container every month from Japan, oftentimes more than one a month. Ocean freight takes an average of 4 weeks. Typically it breaks down to one week in Japan for paperwork and customs, two weeks by boat and one week in US customs/clearance. Due to the wide number of variables between manufacturer and shipping schedules, delivery estimates are simply just that – estimates. We attempt to estimate conservatively and we usually deliver faster than our estimates suggest. It is not Bulletproof’s policy to guarantee delivery time of any special order item, this is impossible for us to do. By ordering you acknowledge that there is no required delivery ETA and an order may not be canceled or altered due to manufacturing or shipping delays, all ETA’s are provided as a best guess only. BP Pricing Difference

We do pricing a little differently on our JDM brands and we believe in making things simple and clear. No hidden fees or surcharges. Every price you see includes the shipping cost to our office in Los Angeles, California and all the associated taxes/duties/fees for bringing the products into the US. The only shipping you ever pay is from our facility in the US to your location. Be wary of resellers that don’t include the cost of international shipping in their pricing on JDM parts. While we believe we’ll always have the lowest all-in price on JDM products, we offer a price match guarantee for all authentic parts purchased from authorized dealers as well. For many international customers, it’s much more affordable to ship from the USA than from Japan directly, as the air freight and ocean freight costs are typically much less. However, for customers looking to ship directly from Japan outside of North America, or domestically in Japan, we can provide pricing specifically for that scenario. Please do not hesitate to contact us with any pricing questions or concerns. Please email us at sales@bulletproofautomotive.com with any inquiries.
