What does the 0.64 A/R GT2860RS Turbocharger suit?

It suits a 1.8L to 2.0L engine that needs boost early, such as a street-driven four-cylinder. The GT2860RS Turbocharger with the 0.64 A/R housing spools sooner than the 0.86 A/R version, at the cost of exhaust flow near redline on larger or high revving engines.

What power rating does Garrett give the GT2860RS?

Garrett gives 250 to 360 horsepower for engines from 1.8L to 3.0L. The rating comes from the choke flow of the compressor map and represents potential flywheel horsepower. With the small 0.64 A/R housing, most engines will sit in the lower or middle part of that band.

Is the actuator included?

Yes. Garrett lists the GT2860RS as a complete turbo with the turbine kit and actuator, and its archive index shows the 0.64 A/R part number with an internal wastegate and actuator included. No external wastegate is needed on the manifold for this configuration.

Can I change the turbine housing later?

Garrett lists four GT28 turbine kits for this frame, in 0.64 and 0.86 A/R with an internal wastegate and 0.57 and 0.72 A/R free float with V-band ends. Garrett notes the kits are not directly interchangeable and the exhaust needs modification to fit a different one.

Does the GT2860RS need coolant lines?

Yes. Garrett lists the center section as oil and water cooled, so the installation needs a coolant feed and return as well as the oil feed and drain. Water cooling helps manage heat in the bearing housing, particularly after a hard run and shutdown.

Description

Garrett GT2860RS Turbocharger, 0.64 A/R Internal Wastegate

Garrett’s GT2860RS Turbocharger in 0.64 A/R form is the quicker-spooling of the two GT2860RS part numbers Garrett lists, a complete GT28-frame turbo with a 47mm by 60mm compressor wheel, a dual ceramic ball bearing CHRA and an internally wastegated turbine housing with its actuator. Garrett rates the GT2860RS at 250 to 360 horsepower on 1.8L to 3.0L engines. The 0.64 A/R housing favors a 1.8L to 2.0L street engine that wants boost early, and it will start to limit an engine pushing toward the top of the rating.

Construction

Garrett lists the GT2860RS with a cast compressor wheel, original GT Series aerodynamics and a dual ceramic ball bearing cartridge in a center housing cooled by both oil and water. The turbine wheel measures 54mm by 47mm with a 76 trim.

Features

0.64 A/R internally wastegated turbine housing, actuator included
Dual ceramic ball bearing, oil and water cooled center section
Sold as a complete turbo with the turbine kit fitted

Specifications

Compressor inducer and exducer: 47mm and 60mm

Applications

The GT2860RS Turbocharger is not vehicle specific. Garrett sizes it by engine and output:

Engine displacement: 1.8L to 3.0L

Notes

Garrett also lists the GT2860RS with a 0.86 A/R turbine housing
Garrett’s GT28 turbine kit table lists its 0.64 A/R wastegated housing with a T25 inlet and 5-bolt outlet
Garrett publishes speed sensor installation instructions for this turbo; the Garrett speed sensor kit is sold separately
Garrett does not publish a maximum turbocharger speed for the GT2860RS

Additional Information

The Bulletproof Automotive website contains many thousands of products purchased in multiple different currencies. All of the prices are entered manually and accurately at the time of entry. Shipping Policy

Items that are in stock in the US, either at Bulletproof’s warehouse or at a supplier’s warehouse, are generally delivered within 7-10 days. Special order items from overseas take considerably longer. As a courtesy Bulletproof offers delivery estimates to our customers which take into consideration manufacturer availability and shipping schedule. These estimates represent our best guess based on previous orders from the manufacturer and do not in any way imply a guaranteed delivery window. Many manufacturers work in a “just in time” inventory system and often take 2-20+ weeks to produce an item once an order is submitted. All deliverable items are then sent to our Japanese warehouse. Bulletproof ships a minimum of one full ocean freight container every month from Japan, oftentimes more than one a month. Ocean freight takes an average of 4 weeks. Typically it breaks down to one week in Japan for paperwork and customs, two weeks by boat and one week in US customs/clearance. Due to the wide number of variables between manufacturer and shipping schedules, delivery estimates are simply just that – estimates. We attempt to estimate conservatively and we usually deliver faster than our estimates suggest. It is not Bulletproof’s policy to guarantee delivery time of any special order item, this is impossible for us to do. By ordering you acknowledge that there is no required delivery ETA and an order may not be canceled or altered due to manufacturing or shipping delays, all ETA’s are provided as a best guess only. BP Pricing Difference

We do pricing a little differently on our JDM brands and we believe in making things simple and clear. No hidden fees or surcharges. Every price you see includes the shipping cost to our office in Los Angeles, California and all the associated taxes/duties/fees for bringing the products into the US. The only shipping you ever pay is from our facility in the US to your location. Be wary of resellers that don’t include the cost of international shipping in their pricing on JDM parts. While we believe we’ll always have the lowest all-in price on JDM products, we offer a price match guarantee for all authentic parts purchased from authorized dealers as well. For many international customers, it’s much more affordable to ship from the USA than from Japan directly, as the air freight and ocean freight costs are typically much less. However, for customers looking to ship directly from Japan outside of North America, or domestically in Japan, we can provide pricing specifically for that scenario. Please do not hesitate to contact us with any pricing questions or concerns. Please email us at sales@bulletproofautomotive.com with any inquiries.
