Does the G42-1200 Super Core come with a turbine housing?

No. The G42-1200 Super Core is the center housing rotating assembly with the full-size compressor housing attached, plus two water fittings. The turbine side is chosen separately from six Garrett G42 kits in 1.01, 1.15 or 1.28 A/R, with a V-band or a T4 divided inlet, and all of them are free float.

How much horsepower can a G42-1200 make?

Garrett rates the G42-1200 at 475 to 1200 horsepower on engines from 2.0L to 7.0L. That rating is worked out from the choke flow of the compressor map and represents potential flywheel horsepower, so the real number depends on fuel, boost, the turbine housing chosen and the calibration.

Should I pick a V-band or a T4 divided turbine housing?

Match the housing to the manifold. The V-band kits suit a single inlet manifold and are easy to clock. The T4 kits have a divided inlet that keeps exhaust pulses apart on a twin-scroll manifold. Both styles come in 1.01, 1.15 and 1.28 A/R and both need an external wastegate.

What is the difference between the full-size and compact G42-1200?

The compressor housing. This part number carries the full-size housing at 0.85 A/R, while the compact version uses a compact housing at 0.90 A/R that Garrett says saves space. Garrett gives both the same wheels and the same power rating, so the compact core is only worth choosing when room around the compressor is tight.

Is there a newer version of the G42-1200?

Yes. Garrett makes the G-Series II G42-1325 with the same 73mm by 91mm compressor wheel dimensions, new aerodynamics and up to 10 percent more compressor flow. It shares the Gen I compressor and turbine housings, so a G42-1200 owner can move up later with a CHRA swap and a new calibration.

Description

Garrett G42-1200 Super Core, Standard Rotation

Garrett’s G42-1200 Super Core is the 73mm member of Garrett’s G42 mid frame: a dual ball bearing center section with the full-size 0.85 A/R compressor housing, sized for engines from 2.0L to 7.0L making 475 to 1200 horsepower. It ships without a turbine housing, and every G42 turbine kit Garrett lists is free float, so the engine needs an external wastegate and a manifold built for a V-band or T4 divided inlet. It suits a built six-cylinder or a small V8 aimed near four figures; on a 2.0L that only needs 500 horsepower it is a lot of turbocharger to spool.

Design and Performance

Garrett calls the G42-1200 the most powerful mid frame turbocharger on the market. Its new turbine wheel flows 10 percent more than the GTX42 wheel and reaches 77 percent peak efficiency, against 74 percent for a GTX42 with a 1.01 A/R housing. The shaft runs on a 10mm ceramic dual ball bearing cartridge, with twin piston rings on both sides to reduce oil leakage.

Features

Full-size 0.85 A/R compressor housing, the standard G42-1200 configuration
Fully machined speed sensor and pressure ports
Compressor housing and non-wastegated turbine housings clock a full 360 degrees

Specifications

Compressor inducer and exducer: 73mm and 91mm
Compressor trim: 65
Compressor housing A/R: 0.85
Turbine inducer and exducer: 82mm and 75mm
Turbine trim: 84
Bearing system: 10mm ceramic dual ball bearing
Rotation: Standard

What’s Included

G42-1200 super core with full-size compressor housing fitted
-6AN water fittings (x2)

Applications

The G42-1200 Super Core is not vehicle specific. Garrett sizes it by engine and output:

Engine displacement: 2.0L to 7.0L
Power range: 475 to 1200 horsepower (Garrett rating)
Garrett turbine kits: G42 1.01, 1.15 and 1.28 A/R free float, each with a V-band inlet or a T4 divided inlet and a V-band outlet

Notes

The turbine housing is not included; Garrett sells the G42 turbine housing kits separately
All six G42 turbine kits are free float, so an external wastegate is required
The Garrett speed sensor kit for the machined port is sold separately
Garrett also builds the G42-1200 with a compact compressor housing

Additional Information

The Bulletproof Automotive website contains many thousands of products purchased in multiple different currencies. All of the prices are entered manually and accurately at the time of entry. Due to the consistently fluctuating international exchange rates, at times prices may not be able to be honored at their original intended rate. Rest assured that any order you place on line will be at zero risk to you in this area. If in the event your order cannot be fulfilled at the original intended website price we will offer you a 100% refund, no questions asked. Shipping Policy

Items that are in stock in the US, either at Bulletproof’s warehouse or at a supplier’s warehouse, are generally delivered within 7-10 days. Special order items from overseas take considerably longer. As a courtesy Bulletproof offers delivery estimates to our customers which take into consideration manufacturer availability and shipping schedule. These estimates represent our best guess based on previous orders from the manufacturer and do not in any way imply a guaranteed delivery window. Many manufacturers work in a “just in time” inventory system and often take 2-20+ weeks to produce an item once an order is submitted. All deliverable items are then sent to our Japanese warehouse. Bulletproof ships a minimum of one full ocean freight container every month from Japan, oftentimes more than one a month. Ocean freight takes an average of 4 weeks. Typically it breaks down to one week in Japan for paperwork and customs, two weeks by boat and one week in US customs/clearance. Due to the wide number of variables between manufacturer and shipping schedules, delivery estimates are simply just that – estimates. We attempt to estimate conservatively and we usually deliver faster than our estimates suggest. It is not Bulletproof’s policy to guarantee delivery time of any special order item, this is impossible for us to do. By ordering you acknowledge that there is no required delivery ETA and an order may not be canceled or altered due to manufacturing or shipping delays, all ETA’s are provided as a best guess only. BP Pricing Difference

We do pricing a little differently on our JDM brands and we believe in making things simple and clear. No hidden fees or surcharges. Every price you see includes the shipping cost to our office in Los Angeles, California and all the associated taxes/duties/fees for bringing the products into the US. The only shipping you ever pay is from our facility in the US to your location. Be wary of resellers that don’t include the cost of international shipping in their pricing on JDM parts. While we believe we’ll always have the lowest all-in price on JDM products, we offer a price match guarantee for all authentic parts purchased from authorized dealers as well. For many international customers, it’s much more affordable to ship from the USA than from Japan directly, as the air freight and ocean freight costs are typically much less. However, for customers looking to ship directly from Japan outside of North America, or domestically in Japan, we can provide pricing specifically for that scenario. Please do not hesitate to contact us with any pricing questions or concerns. Please email us at sales@bulletproofautomotive.com with any inquiries.
