Why choose the G42-1200 Compact Super Core over the standard G42-1200?

Choose it for space. Garrett fits this core with a compact compressor housing that saves room around the inlet and outlet, which helps in crowded engine bays. The compressor wheel, turbine wheel and the 475 to 1200 horsepower rating match the standard version, so the decision comes down to packaging rather than power.

What is the maximum shaft speed for this turbocharger?

Garrett lists 118,000 rpm as the maximum allowable speed for the G42-1200 Compact. Running past that figure is at the risk of the owner and can cause damage and early failure, so Garrett suggests a speed sensor in the compressor housing to watch shaft speed while the engine is tuned.

Which turbine housings fit the compact core?

The G42-1200 Compact Super Core accepts the six Garrett G42 turbine kits: 1.01, 1.15 and 1.28 A/R with a V-band inlet, or the same three sizes with a T4 divided inlet. All six have a V-band outlet and no internal wastegate, so plan for an external gate on the manifold.

Does it need water lines?

Yes. Garrett includes two -6AN water fittings with this core, so the build needs coolant feed and return lines to the center housing as well as an oil feed and a drain. Plan the routing for all four lines before the turbocharger is mounted, since access gets harder once the manifold is in place.

What engines suit the G42-1200 Compact?

Garrett sizes it for 2.0L to 7.0L engines. A heavily built four-cylinder near the top of its power range, an inline six or a small V8 all fall inside that window. For a mild build under 500 horsepower it is larger than needed, and a smaller Garrett frame such as the G35 is the better match.

Description

Garrett G42-1200 Compact Super Core, Standard Rotation

Garrett’s G42-1200 Compact Super Core puts the 73mm G-Series compressor wheel of the standard G42-1200 inside a compact 0.90 A/R compressor housing that Garrett designed to save space. Rated at 475 to 1200 horsepower on 2.0L to 7.0L engines, it is the version to buy when an inlet pipe, intercooler pipe or chassis rail leaves little room around the compressor. Where packaging is not a problem, the full-size G42-1200 does the same job, and in both cases the turbine housing and an external wastegate are bought separately.

Turbine and Bearing System

Garrett states that the new G42 turbine wheel flows 10 percent more than the GTX42 wheel and peaks at 77 percent efficiency. The rotor runs on a 10mm ceramic dual ball bearing cartridge shared with the GTX42, and twin piston rings sit on both sides of the shaft to lower the chance of oil leakage.

Features

Compact compressor housing that Garrett designed to save space in tight engine bays
Fully machined speed sensor and pressure ports
Full 360 degree clocking of the compressor housing and non-wastegated turbine housings
Rated by Garrett as 1200 horsepower capable

Specifications

Compressor inducer and exducer: 73mm and 91mm
Compressor trim: 65
Compressor housing A/R: 0.90
Turbine inducer and exducer: 82mm and 75mm
Turbine trim: 84
Bearing system: 10mm ceramic dual ball bearing
Maximum turbocharger speed: 118,000 rpm
Rotation: Standard

What’s Included

G42-1200 super core with compact compressor housing fitted
-6AN water fittings (x2)

Applications

The G42-1200 Compact Super Core is not vehicle specific. Garrett sizes it by engine and output:

Engine displacement: 2.0L to 7.0L
Power range: 475 to 1200 horsepower (Garrett rating)
Garrett turbine kits: G42 1.01, 1.15 and 1.28 A/R free float, each with a V-band inlet or a T4 divided inlet and a V-band outlet

Notes

The turbine housing is not included; Garrett sells the G42 turbine housing kits separately
All six G42 turbine kits are free float, so an external wastegate is required
The Garrett speed sensor kit is sold separately
Garrett states that running above 118,000 rpm is at the owner’s risk and can result in damage and premature failure

Additional Information

The Bulletproof Automotive website contains many thousands of products purchased in multiple different currencies. All of the prices are entered manually and accurately at the time of entry. Due to the consistently fluctuating international exchange rates, at times prices may not be able to be honored at their original intended rate. Rest assured that any order you place on line will be at zero risk to you in this area. If in the event your order cannot be fulfilled at the original intended website price we will offer you a 100% refund, no questions asked. Shipping Policy

Items that are in stock in the US, either at Bulletproof’s warehouse or at a supplier’s warehouse, are generally delivered within 7-10 days. Special order items from overseas take considerably longer. As a courtesy Bulletproof offers delivery estimates to our customers which take into consideration manufacturer availability and shipping schedule. These estimates represent our best guess based on previous orders from the manufacturer and do not in any way imply a guaranteed delivery window. Many manufacturers work in a “just in time” inventory system and often take 2-20+ weeks to produce an item once an order is submitted. All deliverable items are then sent to our Japanese warehouse. Bulletproof ships a minimum of one full ocean freight container every month from Japan, oftentimes more than one a month. Ocean freight takes an average of 4 weeks. Typically it breaks down to one week in Japan for paperwork and customs, two weeks by boat and one week in US customs/clearance. Due to the wide number of variables between manufacturer and shipping schedules, delivery estimates are simply just that – estimates. We attempt to estimate conservatively and we usually deliver faster than our estimates suggest. It is not Bulletproof’s policy to guarantee delivery time of any special order item, this is impossible for us to do. By ordering you acknowledge that there is no required delivery ETA and an order may not be canceled or altered due to manufacturing or shipping delays, all ETA’s are provided as a best guess only. BP Pricing Difference

We do pricing a little differently on our JDM brands and we believe in making things simple and clear. No hidden fees or surcharges. Every price you see includes the shipping cost to our office in Los Angeles, California and all the associated taxes/duties/fees for bringing the products into the US. The only shipping you ever pay is from our facility in the US to your location. Be wary of resellers that don’t include the cost of international shipping in their pricing on JDM parts. While we believe we’ll always have the lowest all-in price on JDM products, we offer a price match guarantee for all authentic parts purchased from authorized dealers as well. For many international customers, it’s much more affordable to ship from the USA than from Japan directly, as the air freight and ocean freight costs are typically much less. However, for customers looking to ship directly from Japan outside of North America, or domestically in Japan, we can provide pricing specifically for that scenario. Please do not hesitate to contact us with any pricing questions or concerns. Please email us at sales@bulletproofautomotive.com with any inquiries.
