What does the 85mm GTX5533R Gen II Super Core include?

It is the center section with the 0.88 A/R Gen II compressor housing, billet backplate and V-band compressor outlet. This GTX5533R Gen II Super Core needs a GTX55 turbine housing, sold separately, from the seven Garrett lists in V-band or T6 inlet form between 1.12 and 1.40 A/R.

How much power can the 85mm GTX5533R make?

Garrett rates it at 1000 to 1760 horsepower on engines from 3.0L to 12.0L, with compressor flow up to 160 lbs/min. The rating comes from compressor choke flow, so it is potential flywheel horsepower, and the engine, fuel and calibration decide how close a build gets.

Why choose the smallest GTX5533R inducer?

Response. The 85mm, 41 trim wheel is the lightest-flowing of the five GTX5533R options, so it comes on boost sooner than the 88mm to 98mm versions on the same engine. It suits a build where 1760 horsepower is plenty and drivability or launch control still matter.

Which GTX55 housing should I pair with it?

Garrett lists V-band inlet housings in 1.24 and 1.40 A/R, in standard or long-outlet form, and T6 inlet housings in 1.12, 1.24 and 1.40 A/R. For the responsive 85mm core, a 1.12 or 1.24 A/R housing is usually the starting point, matched to the manifold flange.

Is there a speed limit for this core?

Yes. Garrett sets the maximum allowable speed at 84,000 rpm for the GTX5533R Gen II and states that running above it is at the risk of the owner. A Garrett speed sensor fits the machined port in the compressor housing to monitor shaft speed; it is sold separately.

Description

Garrett GTX5533R Gen II Super Core, 85mm Compressor Inducer

Garrett’s GTX5533R Gen II Super Core with the 85mm inducer is the smallest of five GTX5533R options, a 41 trim wheel on a 133mm Gen II compressor that Garrett rates at 1000 to 1760 horsepower and 160 lbs/min on engines from 3.0L to 12.0L. It is the GTX55 for a builder who wants the big 112mm turbine and GTX55 housings but values response, typically a large V8 aimed at 1200 to 1600 horsepower. Below 1000 horsepower the GTX47 or GTX50 frames make more sense, and past 1800 horsepower the larger GTX5533R inducers take over.

Gen II Features

Garrett lists an improved ported shroud for surge resistance, a lightweight billet backplate and a V-band compressor outlet on the GTX5533R Gen II. The compressor inlet, outlet and shroud are fully machined, and the wheel was developed with Garrett’s computational fluid dynamics tools. A machined speed sensor port arrives plugged and opens with a 5mm Allen key.

Features

85mm inducer, 41 trim, in a 0.88 A/R compressor housing
Lightweight billet backplate and V-band compressor outlet
Compatible with existing GT and GTX turbine housing kits of the GTX55 frame

Specifications

Compressor inducer and exducer: 85mm and 133mm
Compressor trim: 41
Compressor housing A/R: 0.88
Turbine inducer and exducer: 112mm and 102mm
Turbine trim: 84
Compressor flow: Up to 160 lbs/min
Maximum turbocharger speed: 84,000 rpm

Applications

The GTX5533R Gen II Super Core is not vehicle specific. Garrett sizes it by engine and output:

Engine displacement: 3.0L to 12.0L
Power range: 1000 to 1760 horsepower (Garrett rating)
Garrett GTX55 turbine kits: V-band inlet in 1.24 or 1.40 A/R, standard or long outlet with cross bolts; T6 inlet in 1.12, 1.24 or 1.40 A/R; all with a V-band outlet

Notes

The turbine housing is not included; Garrett lists seven GTX55 turbine housings for 5533 and 5544 cores
Every GTX55 housing Garrett lists is free float, so an external wastegate is required
The Garrett speed sensor kit is sold separately
Garrett states that running above 84,000 rpm is at the owner’s risk and can cause damage and premature failure
Garrett also builds the GTX5533R Gen II in 88mm to 98mm inducer sizes

Additional Information

The Bulletproof Automotive website contains many thousands of products purchased in multiple different currencies. All of the prices are entered manually and accurately at the time of entry. Due to the consistently fluctuating international exchange rates, at times prices may not be able to be honored at their original intended rate. Rest assured that any order you place on line will be at zero risk to you in this area. If in the event your order cannot be fulfilled at the original intended website price we will offer you a 100% refund, no questions asked. Shipping Policy

Items that are in stock in the US, either at Bulletproof’s warehouse or at a supplier’s warehouse, are generally delivered within 7-10 days. Special order items from overseas take considerably longer. As a courtesy Bulletproof offers delivery estimates to our customers which take into consideration manufacturer availability and shipping schedule. These estimates represent our best guess based on previous orders from the manufacturer and do not in any way imply a guaranteed delivery window. Many manufacturers work in a “just in time” inventory system and often take 2-20+ weeks to produce an item once an order is submitted. All deliverable items are then sent to our Japanese warehouse. Bulletproof ships a minimum of one full ocean freight container every month from Japan, oftentimes more than one a month. Ocean freight takes an average of 4 weeks. Typically it breaks down to one week in Japan for paperwork and customs, two weeks by boat and one week in US customs/clearance. Due to the wide number of variables between manufacturer and shipping schedules, delivery estimates are simply just that – estimates. We attempt to estimate conservatively and we usually deliver faster than our estimates suggest. It is not Bulletproof’s policy to guarantee delivery time of any special order item, this is impossible for us to do. By ordering you acknowledge that there is no required delivery ETA and an order may not be canceled or altered due to manufacturing or shipping delays, all ETA’s are provided as a best guess only. BP Pricing Difference

We do pricing a little differently on our JDM brands and we believe in making things simple and clear. No hidden fees or surcharges. Every price you see includes the shipping cost to our office in Los Angeles, California and all the associated taxes/duties/fees for bringing the products into the US. The only shipping you ever pay is from our facility in the US to your location. Be wary of resellers that don’t include the cost of international shipping in their pricing on JDM parts. While we believe we’ll always have the lowest all-in price on JDM products, we offer a price match guarantee for all authentic parts purchased from authorized dealers as well. For many international customers, it’s much more affordable to ship from the USA than from Japan directly, as the air freight and ocean freight costs are typically much less. However, for customers looking to ship directly from Japan outside of North America, or domestically in Japan, we can provide pricing specifically for that scenario. Please do not hesitate to contact us with any pricing questions or concerns. Please email us at sales@bulletproofautomotive.com with any inquiries.
