Is the 1.06 A/R V-band G38 Turbine Housing Kit too big for a 2.0L?

Often, yes. The 1.06 A/R G38 Turbine Housing Kit is the largest G38 size and favors high-rpm flow over early boost. A 2.0L engine usually responds better with the 0.85 or 0.95 A/R, unless it revs very high and the goal is peak power rather than street response.

What power do the G38 cores support?

Garrett rates the GXR38-64 at 500 to 1150 horsepower and the G38-1000 at 500 to 1000 horsepower, both on 2.0L to 5.5L engines. Garrett bases those numbers on compressor choke flow, so they are potential flywheel figures. A large 1.06 A/R housing helps a build reach the top of them.

Does this housing need a divided manifold?

No. This version has an undivided V-band inlet, so it matches a single-entry manifold with a V-band collector. Garrett sells a separate divided T4 inlet housing in the same 1.06 A/R for twin-scroll manifolds, and the two are not interchangeable at the inlet flange.

How is boost controlled with this housing?

With an external wastegate. The housing has no internal wastegate passage, so the manifold must carry a wastegate flange ahead of the turbine. Large housings flow freely, so the gate still needs enough capacity to hold the target boost at high rpm.

Can I keep this housing if I swap from a G38-1000 to a GXR38-64?

Yes. Garrett publishes the same G38 turbine kits for both cores, so this housing carries over in a core swap. The compressor side changes, but the turbine housing, manifold and downpipe connections stay the same, which keeps an upgrade to the GXR38-64 straightforward.

Description

Garrett G38 Turbine Housing Kit, 1.06 A/R V-Band Inlet and Outlet

Garrett’s G38 Turbine Housing Kit in 1.06 A/R with V-band connections is the highest-flowing single-scroll housing in the G38 family, a stainless steel casting with no internal wastegate. It completes a G38-1000 or GXR38-64 super core and is the size to choose when the engine sits toward 5.5L or spends its time high in the rev range. Garrett rates the GXR38-64 to 1150 horsepower, and this is the housing that gives that compressor the most exhaust flow to work with. On a small engine that wants boost early it will feel lazy, and the 0.85 A/R V-band housing is the better fit.

Features

Largest A/R in the V-band G38 Turbine Housing Kit range
V-band joints at both ends for a clamped, clockable installation
Free-float housing for external wastegate control

Specifications

Garrett part number: 757707-0039
A/R: 1.06
Turbine inlet and outlet: V-band and V-band
Divided inlet: No
Wastegate: External (free float)
Material: Stainless steel
Matching turbine wheel: 74mm inducer and 66mm exducer

Applications

Garrett lists this G38 Turbine Housing Kit for:

Garrett G38-1000 G-Series II: 938272-5003S super core
Garrett GXR38-64 G-XRace: 934173-5008S super core with V-band compressor outlet, 934173-5009S with hose outlet

Notes

An external wastegate is required, because this housing has no internal wastegate
The G38-1000 or GXR38-64 super core is sold separately
Garrett sets the maximum turbocharger speed of both listed cores at 125,000 rpm and states that running above it is at the owner’s risk
Smaller sizes and divided T4 versions are under G38 turbine housings
Garrett does not publish a hardware list for this kit; confirm clamps and gaskets before ordering

Shipping Policy

Items that are in stock in the US, either at Bulletproof’s warehouse or at a supplier’s warehouse, are generally delivered within 7-10 days. Special order items from overseas take considerably longer. As a courtesy Bulletproof offers delivery estimates to our customers which take into consideration manufacturer availability and shipping schedule. These estimates represent our best guess based on previous orders from the manufacturer and do not in any way imply a guaranteed delivery window. Many manufacturers work in a “just in time” inventory system and often take 2-20+ weeks to produce an item once an order is submitted. All deliverable items are then sent to our Japanese warehouse. Bulletproof ships a minimum of one full ocean freight container every month from Japan, oftentimes more than one a month. Ocean freight takes an average of 4 weeks. Typically it breaks down to one week in Japan for paperwork and customs, two weeks by boat and one week in US customs/clearance. Due to the wide number of variables between manufacturer and shipping schedules, delivery estimates are simply just that – estimates. We attempt to estimate conservatively and we usually deliver faster than our estimates suggest. It is not Bulletproof’s policy to guarantee delivery time of any special order item, this is impossible for us to do. By ordering you acknowledge that there is no required delivery ETA and an order may not be canceled or altered due to manufacturing or shipping delays, all ETA’s are provided as a best guess only. BP Pricing Difference

We do pricing a little differently on our JDM brands and we believe in making things simple and clear. No hidden fees or surcharges. Every price you see includes the shipping cost to our office in Los Angeles, California and all the associated taxes/duties/fees for bringing the products into the US. The only shipping you ever pay is from our facility in the US to your location. Be wary of resellers that don’t include the cost of international shipping in their pricing on JDM parts. While we believe we’ll always have the lowest all-in price on JDM products, we offer a price match guarantee for all authentic parts purchased from authorized dealers as well. For many international customers, it’s much more affordable to ship from the USA than from Japan directly, as the air freight and ocean freight costs are typically much less. However, for customers looking to ship directly from Japan outside of North America, or domestically in Japan, we can provide pricing specifically for that scenario. Please do not hesitate to contact us with any pricing questions or concerns. Please email us at sales@bulletproofautomotive.com with any inquiries.
