Who is the 1.40 A/R short outlet GTX55 Turbine Housing Kit for?

Builders of large engines running a GTX5533R or GTX5544R Gen II core on a V-band collector manifold. This GTX55 Turbine Housing Kit has the biggest volute Garrett offers for the GTX55 turbine, so it flows freely at high rpm, and the short outlet suits tight downpipe packaging.

How does it differ from part 761208-0063?

Both are 1.40 A/R V-band inlet GTX55 housings. Garrett marks part 761208-0063 as a long outlet with cross bolts; this part lacks that marking and is sold as the short outlet version. Pick by the length and fastening the downpipe and chassis allow.

Does this housing meet SFI requirements?

No. Turn 14 describes it as non-SFI. Garrett notes that SFI super core and turbine options are available in the GTX55 Gen II range, so a build that needs SFI parts should choose those and not this housing. Ask Bulletproof Automotive for the SFI part numbers if they are needed.

Will the 1.40 A/R lag on a smaller engine?

Yes. The largest volute needs strong exhaust flow before the turbine reaches boost speed, so an engine near the 3.0L bottom of the range will see boost late. The 1.24 A/R short outlet housing, part 761208-0064, or the 1.12 A/R T6 housing suit smaller engines better.

Is the housing stainless steel?

Turn 14 describes it as stainless. Garrett does not state the material on its GTX55 pages, so that detail comes from the supplier. Ask Bulletproof Automotive to confirm with Garrett if the build depends on a specific housing material, such as for long runs at sustained high exhaust temperature.

Description

Garrett GTX55 Turbine Housing Kit, 1.40 A/R V-Band In and Out, Short Outlet

Garrett’s GTX55 Turbine Housing Kit in 1.40 A/R with V-band inlet and outlet is the largest clamp-on GTX55 housing in its short outlet form, built for big engines running a GTX5533R or GTX5544R Gen II core on a V-band collector manifold. The 1.40 A/R volute lowers exhaust backpressure at high rpm, which is where the larger compressor options earn their keep. Turn 14 lists it as stainless steel and non-SFI. A smaller engine will spool it late, and a builder who wants the long outlet with cross bolts should order part 761208-0063 instead.

Where It Fits

The 106mm GTX5544R Gen II flows up to 258 lb/min, according to Garrett, and is rated to 2850 horsepower from compressor choke flow as potential flywheel horsepower. Builds aimed at that end of the range need a turbine housing that will not choke the exhaust, and the 1.40 A/R is the largest Garrett offers for the GTX55 turbine wheel.

Features

1.40 A/R, the largest GTX55 size, for minimum backpressure
V-band inlet and outlet in the short outlet form
Free float, for boost control by an external wastegate
The GTX55 Turbine Housing Kit for big-engine GTX5544R and 98mm GTX5533R builds

Specifications

Garrett part number: 761208-0065
A/R: 1.40
Turbine inlet and outlet: V-band and V-band
Wastegate: External (free float)
Divided inlet: No
Turbine wheel: 112mm inducer, 102mm exducer

Applications

Garrett lists this GTX55 Turbine Housing Kit for these super cores:

Garrett GTX5533R Gen II super cores: 851285-5001S to 851285-5005S (85mm to 98mm)
Garrett GTX5544R Gen II super cores: 851285-5021S (102mm) and 851285-5022S (106mm)
Also interchangeable with: GT and GTX 5533 and 5544 super cores
Engine displacement: 3.0L to 12.0L

Notes

No super core included; Garrett GTX5544R Gen II cores are listed separately
Needs an external wastegate on the manifold
The 1.40 A/R with a T6 inlet is part 761208-0017, and the smaller short outlet size is 1.24 A/R

Shipping Policy

Items that are in stock in the US, either at Bulletproof’s warehouse or at a supplier’s warehouse, are generally delivered within 7-10 days. Special order items from overseas take considerably longer. As a courtesy Bulletproof offers delivery estimates to our customers which take into consideration manufacturer availability and shipping schedule. These estimates represent our best guess based on previous orders from the manufacturer and do not in any way imply a guaranteed delivery window. Many manufacturers work in a “just in time” inventory system and often take 2-20+ weeks to produce an item once an order is submitted. All deliverable items are then sent to our Japanese warehouse. Bulletproof ships a minimum of one full ocean freight container every month from Japan, oftentimes more than one a month. Ocean freight takes an average of 4 weeks. Typically it breaks down to one week in Japan for paperwork and customs, two weeks by boat and one week in US customs/clearance. Due to the wide number of variables between manufacturer and shipping schedules, delivery estimates are simply just that – estimates. We attempt to estimate conservatively and we usually deliver faster than our estimates suggest. It is not Bulletproof’s policy to guarantee delivery time of any special order item, this is impossible for us to do. By ordering you acknowledge that there is no required delivery ETA and an order may not be canceled or altered due to manufacturing or shipping delays, all ETA’s are provided as a best guess only. BP Pricing Difference

We do pricing a little differently on our JDM brands and we believe in making things simple and clear. No hidden fees or surcharges. Every price you see includes the shipping cost to our office in Los Angeles, California and all the associated taxes/duties/fees for bringing the products into the US. The only shipping you ever pay is from our facility in the US to your location. Be wary of resellers that don’t include the cost of international shipping in their pricing on JDM parts. While we believe we’ll always have the lowest all-in price on JDM products, we offer a price match guarantee for all authentic parts purchased from authorized dealers as well. For many international customers, it’s much more affordable to ship from the USA than from Japan directly, as the air freight and ocean freight costs are typically much less. However, for customers looking to ship directly from Japan outside of North America, or domestically in Japan, we can provide pricing specifically for that scenario. Please do not hesitate to contact us with any pricing questions or concerns. Please email us at sales@bulletproofautomotive.com with any inquiries.
