What is a reverse rotation G25-585 G-Series II CHRA used for?

Twin-turbo engines where the two turbochargers are mounted as mirror images. One unit runs standard rotation and the other runs reverse, so the compressor outlets and turbine inlets line up with symmetrical plumbing on each bank. A single-turbo engine has no need for reverse rotation and should use the standard core.

Can I fit standard rotation housings to this core?

No. A reverse-rotation core needs reverse-rotation compressor and turbine housings, because the scroll direction of each housing has to match the direction the wheels turn. Garrett lists four reverse-rotation G25 turbine kits for it, in 0.72 and 0.92 A/R with either an external or an internal wastegate.

How much power can a pair of G25-585 turbochargers make?

Garrett rates each G25-585 G-Series II CHRA at 300 to 585 horsepower, based on compressor choke flow and stated as potential flywheel horsepower. Two units share the engine airflow, so the combined ceiling is higher, but fuel, boost, intercooling and the calibration decide the real total on any twin-turbo engine.

Will this replace the core in my first generation reverse G25?

Yes. G-Series II reuses the Gen I compressor and turbine housings, and Garrett offers reverse-rotation versions of the supercore, CHRA and complete turbocharger. Swapping this CHRA into existing reverse-rotation G25 housings is the upgrade path Garrett describes, followed by a calibration to use the added flow.

Is a speed sensor worth fitting on a twin turbo setup?

Garrett recommends one, and on twin turbochargers it is a useful check that both units are working evenly. The maximum allowable speed for this core is 185,000 rpm. The sensor fits the compressor housing, is sold separately, and gives the tuner shaft speed to keep each turbocharger on its map.

Description

Garrett G25-585 G-Series II CHRA, Reverse Rotation

Garrett’s G25-585 G-Series II CHRA in reverse rotation is the mirror-image center section for twin-turbo layouts where one turbocharger has to spin the opposite way to its partner. It carries the same 48mm compressor inducer and 49mm turbine exducer as the standard-rotation core, with the wheels and center housing reversed to suit reverse-rotation housings. Garrett rates the G25-585 at 300 to 585 horsepower per turbocharger on 1.4L to 3.0L engines, which makes a pair a sensible fit for a twin-turbo V6 or V8 where response matters more than peak output. On a single-turbo build it is the wrong part; the standard-rotation core is the one to buy.

What Changed in G-Series II

Garrett redesigned the compressor aerodynamics for up to 10 percent more flow than G-Series Gen I at peak pressure ratio and peak turbo speed. The center housing and backplate are now one piece, and a shorter bearing cartridge allows twin piston rings at each end of the shaft. The housings did not change, so a Gen I reverse-rotation G25 setup can take this core.

Features

Reverse rotation for the opposite bank of a mirrored twin-turbo installation
Mar-M superalloy turbine wheel rated to 1050C (1922F)
Accepts the reverse-rotation G25 compressor and turbine housings from the first generation

Specifications

Garrett turbo reference: 4849
Compressor inducer and exducer: 48mm and 60mm
Turbine inducer and exducer: 54mm and 49mm
Maximum turbocharger speed: 185,000 rpm
Rotation: Reverse
Matching super core: 934114-5001S

Applications

The G25-585 G-Series II CHRA is not vehicle specific. Garrett sizes it by engine and output:

Engine displacement: 1.4L to 3.0L
Power range: 300 to 585 horsepower (Garrett rating)
Garrett G25 turbine kits, reverse rotation: 0.72 and 0.92 A/R V-band in external or internal wastegate form

Notes

Compressor and turbine housings are not included, and both must be reverse-rotation parts; the reverse rotation G25-585 super core comes with its compressor housing
The standard-rotation G25-585 G-Series II CHRA is listed separately for single-turbo builds
Garrett states that running above 185,000 rpm is at the owner’s risk and can cause premature failure
The Garrett speed sensor kit is sold separately

The Bulletproof Automotive website contains many thousands of products purchased in multiple different currencies. All of the prices are entered manually and accurately at the time of entry. Shipping Policy

Items that are in stock in the US, either at Bulletproof’s warehouse or at a supplier’s warehouse, are generally delivered within 7-10 days. Special order items from overseas take considerably longer. As a courtesy Bulletproof offers delivery estimates to our customers which take into consideration manufacturer availability and shipping schedule. These estimates represent our best guess based on previous orders from the manufacturer and do not in any way imply a guaranteed delivery window. Many manufacturers work in a “just in time” inventory system and often take 2-20+ weeks to produce an item once an order is submitted. All deliverable items are then sent to our Japanese warehouse. Bulletproof ships a minimum of one full ocean freight container every month from Japan, oftentimes more than one a month. Ocean freight takes an average of 4 weeks. Typically it breaks down to one week in Japan for paperwork and customs, two weeks by boat and one week in US customs/clearance. Due to the wide number of variables between manufacturer and shipping schedules, delivery estimates are simply just that – estimates. We attempt to estimate conservatively and we usually deliver faster than our estimates suggest. It is not Bulletproof’s policy to guarantee delivery time of any special order item, this is impossible for us to do. By ordering you acknowledge that there is no required delivery ETA and an order may not be canceled or altered due to manufacturing or shipping delays, all ETA’s are provided as a best guess only. BP Pricing Difference

We do pricing a little differently on our JDM brands and we believe in making things simple and clear. No hidden fees or surcharges. Every price you see includes the shipping cost to our office in Los Angeles, California and all the associated taxes/duties/fees for bringing the products into the US. The only shipping you ever pay is from our facility in the US to your location. Be wary of resellers that don’t include the cost of international shipping in their pricing on JDM parts. While we believe we’ll always have the lowest all-in price on JDM products, we offer a price match guarantee for all authentic parts purchased from authorized dealers as well. For many international customers, it’s much more affordable to ship from the USA than from Japan directly, as the air freight and ocean freight costs are typically much less. However, for customers looking to ship directly from Japan outside of North America, or domestically in Japan, we can provide pricing specifically for that scenario. Please do not hesitate to contact us with any pricing questions or concerns. Please email us at sales@bulletproofautomotive.com with any inquiries.
