What is included with the GTX2867R Gen II Super Core?

The GTX2867R Gen II Super Core is the center housing rotating assembly with the Gen II compressor housing fitted. The turbine housing is separate, which lets the builder choose between Garrett GT28 kits: 0.57 or 0.72 A/R V-band free float, or 0.64 or 0.86 A/R T25 with an internal wastegate.

How much horsepower can the GTX2867R make?

Garrett rates the GTX2867R Gen II at 275 to 550 horsepower on engines from 1.4L to 2.5L. Garrett derives that range from the choke flow of the compressor map, so it describes potential flywheel horsepower. The engine, fuel system and tune decide how close a build gets to the top.

GTX2867R or GTX2860R: which small-frame core fits my build?

Pick by target power. The GTX2860R Gen II has a 46mm inducer and a 475 horsepower ceiling, and it spools sooner on a mild engine. The GTX2867R Gen II steps to a 50mm inducer and a 550 horsepower ceiling for a fully built four-cylinder that needs more airflow from the same frame.

Is a speed sensor needed on this turbocharger?

Garrett strongly suggests one. The maximum allowable speed is 165,000 rpm, and a sensor in the compressor housing lets the tuner watch shaft speed so the turbocharger stays inside its limits. The machined port arrives plugged and is opened with a 5mm Allen key; the sensor kit is sold separately.

Will this Gen II core bolt into my Gen I GTX2867R setup?

Yes for the turbocharger outline and turbine housing. Garrett states Gen II units are outline interchangeable with the equivalent Gen I products and work with existing GT and GTX turbine housing kits. A Gen II compressor housing does not accept a Gen I compressor wheel, so the two are not mixed.

Description

Garrett GTX2867R Gen II Super Core, 50mm Standard Rotation

Garrett’s GTX2867R Gen II Super Core is the bigger sibling of Garrett’s GTX2860R Gen II in the small-frame GTX28 range, with a 50mm Gen II compressor inducer over a 54mm turbine, rated by Garrett at 275 to 550 horsepower on engines from 1.4L to 2.5L. That rating is high for the frame size, so it suits a built 2.0L or 2.5L four-cylinder chasing 450 horsepower or more while keeping small-frame response. On a lightly modified engine aiming for 300 horsepower, the 46mm GTX2860R Gen II is the better match. It ships without a turbine housing, ready for a GT28 kit.

Gen II Compressor

Garrett designed the Gen II wheel with its own computational fluid dynamics tools, and states the Gen II update can produce up to 20 percent more horsepower than the earlier GTX version. The new high-flow compressor housing has a fully machined inlet, outlet and ported shroud, which Garrett revised for surge resistance. The cartridge is an 8mm dual ceramic ball bearing.

Features

Fully machined speed sensor port, plugged from the factory and opened with a 5mm Allen key
Outline interchangeable with the equivalent GT and GTX Gen I turbochargers, so existing piping carries over
Accepts GT28 V-band free-float and T25 internal wastegate turbine kits

Specifications

Garrett turbo reference: 5047
Compressor inducer and exducer: 50mm and 67mm
Turbine inducer and exducer: 54mm and 47mm
Bearing system: 8mm dual ceramic ball bearing
Maximum turbocharger speed: 165,000 rpm
Rotation: Standard

Applications

The GTX2867R Gen II Super Core is not vehicle specific. Garrett sizes it by engine and output:

Engine displacement: 1.4L to 2.5L
Power range: 275 to 550 horsepower (Garrett rating)
Garrett GT28 turbine kits: 0.57 and 0.72 A/R V-band free float, 0.64 and 0.86 A/R T25 internal wastegate

Notes

The turbine housing is not included; the smaller GTX2860R Gen II uses the same GT28 kits
The Garrett speed sensor kit is sold separately
Garrett states that running above 165,000 rpm is at the owner’s risk and can cause damage and premature failure
Turn 14 lists this part number as replacing the earlier GTX2867R super core 836040-5004S

Additional Information

The Bulletproof Automotive website contains many thousands of products purchased in multiple different currencies. All of the prices are entered manually and accurately at the time of entry. Due to the consistently fluctuating international exchange rates, at times prices may not be able to be honored at their original intended rate. Shipping Policy

Items that are in stock in the US, either at Bulletproof’s warehouse or at a supplier’s warehouse, are generally delivered within 7-10 days. Special order items from overseas take considerably longer. As a courtesy Bulletproof offers delivery estimates to our customers which take into consideration manufacturer availability and shipping schedule. These estimates represent our best guess based on previous orders from the manufacturer and do not in any way imply a guaranteed delivery window. Many manufacturers work in a “just in time” inventory system and often take 2-20+ weeks to produce an item once an order is submitted. All deliverable items are then sent to our Japanese warehouse. Bulletproof ships a minimum of one full ocean freight container every month from Japan, oftentimes more than one a month. Ocean freight takes an average of 4 weeks. Typically it breaks down to one week in Japan for paperwork and customs, two weeks by boat and one week in US customs/clearance. Due to the wide number of variables between manufacturer and shipping schedules, delivery estimates are simply just that – estimates. We attempt to estimate conservatively and we usually deliver faster than our estimates suggest. It is not Bulletproof’s policy to guarantee delivery time of any special order item, this is impossible for us to do. By ordering you acknowledge that there is no required delivery ETA and an order may not be canceled or altered due to manufacturing or shipping delays, all ETA’s are provided as a best guess only. BP Pricing Difference

We do pricing a little differently on our JDM brands and we believe in making things simple and clear. No hidden fees or surcharges. Every price you see includes the shipping cost to our office in Los Angeles, California and all the associated taxes/duties/fees for bringing the products into the US. The only shipping you ever pay is from our facility in the US to your location. Be wary of resellers that don’t include the cost of international shipping in their pricing on JDM parts. While we believe we’ll always have the lowest all-in price on JDM products, we offer a price match guarantee for all authentic parts purchased from authorized dealers as well. For many international customers, it’s much more affordable to ship from the USA than from Japan directly, as the air freight and ocean freight costs are typically much less. However, for customers looking to ship directly from Japan outside of North America, or domestically in Japan, we can provide pricing specifically for that scenario. Please do not hesitate to contact us with any pricing questions or concerns. Please email us at sales@bulletproofautomotive.com with any inquiries.
