Is the V-band G38 Turbine Housing Kit right for a single-scroll manifold?

Yes. This G38 Turbine Housing Kit has a V-band inlet with no divider, which matches a single-entry manifold or log with a V-band collector. A divided twin-scroll manifold should use the T4 inlet version, which Garrett makes in the same A/R sizes.

What does the 0.85 A/R mean for spool?

A smaller A/R speeds up the exhaust gas reaching the turbine wheel, so boost arrives sooner. The 0.85 is the smallest of the three G38 sizes, which makes it the response pick for smaller engines, at the cost of more backpressure at high rpm than the 0.95 or 1.06 A/R housings.

Which super cores does this housing fit?

Garrett lists it for the G-Series II G38-1000, part 938272-5003S, and the G-XRace GXR38-64 in both forms: 934173-5008S with a V-band compressor outlet and 934173-5009S with a hose outlet. Each uses a turbine wheel with a 74mm inducer and a 66mm exducer.

Can I rotate the housing to suit my downpipe?

Yes. With V-band clamps at the inlet and outlet, the housing can be clocked relative to the manifold and downpipe during the mock-up. Final position should be checked against the oil drain and the compressor outlet before the clamps are torqued.

Do I need a separate wastegate?

Yes. This is a free-float housing without an internal wastegate, so boost has to be controlled by an external wastegate on the manifold. Garrett lists every G38 turbine kit this way. Choose a gate sized for the target boost and plumb its outlet into the downpipe or to atmosphere.

Description

Garrett G38 Turbine Housing Kit, 0.85 A/R V-Band Inlet and Outlet

Garrett’s G38 Turbine Housing Kit with a V-band inlet and 0.85 A/R is built for single-entry manifolds, clamping to the collector and the downpipe with V-band joints at both ends and leaving boost control to an external wastegate. The housing is stainless steel and Garrett lists it for the G-Series II G38-1000 and the G-XRace GXR38-64 super cores. As the smallest G38 A/R it is the pick for quick response on engines toward the 2.0L end of the range. It is not suited to a twin-scroll manifold, which needs the divided T4 version.

Why a V-band inlet

A V-band joint is a clamped flange rather than a studded one, so the housing can be clocked to suit the manifold and downpipe before the clamp is tightened. It is the common choice on fabricated single-scroll manifolds.

Features

V-band inlet and outlet, so the housing clocks freely before the clamps are tightened
Free-float design with no internal wastegate
0.85 A/R, the response-focused size in the G38 Turbine Housing Kit range

Specifications

Garrett part number: 757707-0037
A/R: 0.85
Turbine inlet and outlet: V-band and V-band
Divided inlet: No
Wastegate: External (free float)
Material: Stainless steel
Matching turbine wheel: 74mm inducer and 66mm exducer

Applications

Garrett lists this G38 Turbine Housing Kit for these cores:

Garrett G38-1000 G-Series II: 938272-5003S super core
Garrett GXR38-64 G-XRace: 934173-5008S super core with V-band compressor outlet, 934173-5009S with hose outlet

Notes

An external wastegate is required, because this housing has no internal wastegate
The G38-1000 or GXR38-64 super core is sold separately
Garrett sets the maximum turbocharger speed of both listed cores at 125,000 rpm and states that running above it is at the owner’s risk
Garrett also offers 0.95 and 1.06 A/R and divided T4 inlet versions
Garrett does not publish a hardware list for this kit; confirm clamps and gaskets before ordering

Shipping Policy

Items that are in stock in the US, either at Bulletproof’s warehouse or at a supplier’s warehouse, are generally delivered within 7-10 days. Special order items from overseas take considerably longer. As a courtesy Bulletproof offers delivery estimates to our customers which take into consideration manufacturer availability and shipping schedule. These estimates represent our best guess based on previous orders from the manufacturer and do not in any way imply a guaranteed delivery window. Many manufacturers work in a “just in time” inventory system and often take 2-20+ weeks to produce an item once an order is submitted. All deliverable items are then sent to our Japanese warehouse. Bulletproof ships a minimum of one full ocean freight container every month from Japan, oftentimes more than one a month. Ocean freight takes an average of 4 weeks. Typically it breaks down to one week in Japan for paperwork and customs, two weeks by boat and one week in US customs/clearance. Due to the wide number of variables between manufacturer and shipping schedules, delivery estimates are simply just that – estimates. We attempt to estimate conservatively and we usually deliver faster than our estimates suggest. It is not Bulletproof’s policy to guarantee delivery time of any special order item, this is impossible for us to do. By ordering you acknowledge that there is no required delivery ETA and an order may not be canceled or altered due to manufacturing or shipping delays, all ETA’s are provided as a best guess only. BP Pricing Difference

We do pricing a little differently on our JDM brands and we believe in making things simple and clear. No hidden fees or surcharges. Every price you see includes the shipping cost to our office in Los Angeles, California and all the associated taxes/duties/fees for bringing the products into the US. The only shipping you ever pay is from our facility in the US to your location. Be wary of resellers that don’t include the cost of international shipping in their pricing on JDM parts. While we believe we’ll always have the lowest all-in price on JDM products, we offer a price match guarantee for all authentic parts purchased from authorized dealers as well. For many international customers, it’s much more affordable to ship from the USA than from Japan directly, as the air freight and ocean freight costs are typically much less. However, for customers looking to ship directly from Japan outside of North America, or domestically in Japan, we can provide pricing specifically for that scenario. Please do not hesitate to contact us with any pricing questions or concerns. Please email us at sales@bulletproofautomotive.com with any inquiries.
