Does the GTX2860R Gen II Super Core include a turbine housing?

No. Garrett defines a super core as the center housing rotating assembly with the compressor housing attached, supplied with a gasket kit. The turbine housing is bought separately, so the builder chooses the A/R, inlet flange and wastegate layout. Garrett lists four GT28R turbine kits for this core.

How much horsepower will the GTX2860R Gen II Super Core support?

Garrett rates the GTX2860R Gen II Super Core at 200 to 475 horsepower on engines from 1.4L to 2.5L. The figure comes from the choke flow of the compressor map and represents potential flywheel horsepower, so fuel, boost, supporting parts and the calibration decide the real result.

Will a Gen II core fit my existing GTX2860R turbine housing?

Yes. Garrett states that all GTX Gen II turbochargers are compatible with existing GT and GTX turbine housing kits, and the complete unit is outline interchangeable with the Gen I turbocharger. The one limit is that a Gen II compressor housing does not accept a Gen I compressor wheel.

What changed between GTX Gen I and GTX Gen II?

The compressor side. Gen II brings a new wheel designed with computational fluid dynamics, a new high-flow compressor housing, a fully machined inlet, outlet and ported shroud, and a machined speed sensor port. Garrett says the changes support up to 20 percent more horsepower than Gen I.

Do I need a speed sensor on this turbocharger?

Garrett recommends one. The maximum allowable speed for this core is 185,000 rpm, and a sensor in the compressor housing shows the tuner shaft speed so the turbocharger stays inside its map. The port is machined and plugged from the factory, and the Garrett sensor kit is sold separately.

Description

Garrett GTX2860R Gen II Super Core, 46mm Standard Rotation

Garrett’s GTX2860R Gen II Super Core is the center of Garrett’s small-frame GTX turbocharger: a dual ceramic ball bearing cartridge, a Gen II compressor wheel with a 46mm inducer, and the compressor housing, sized for engines from 1.4L to 2.5L making 200 to 475 horsepower. It ships without a turbine housing, so the builder chooses the exhaust side, either one of the four GT28R kits Garrett pairs with it or the housing already on the engine. On a stock-power daily driver it is more turbocharger than the engine needs; on a tuned 2.0L aimed past 400 horsepower it is the size Garrett designed it for.

Design and Performance

Gen II is an aerodynamic redesign of the GTX compressor. Garrett developed the wheel with its own computational fluid dynamics tools and states that it supports up to 20 percent more horsepower than the first-generation GTX2860R. The 8mm ball bearing cartridge reduces shaft motion, which shows up as quicker boost response.

Features

Fully machined compressor inlet, outlet and ported shroud, revised for surge resistance
Machined speed sensor port, plugged from the factory and opened with a 5mm Allen key
Accepts existing GT and GTX turbine housing kits of this frame

Specifications

Garrett turbo reference: 4647
Compressor inducer and exducer: 46mm and 60mm
Turbine inducer and exducer: 54mm and 47mm
Bearing system: 8mm dual ceramic ball bearing
Maximum turbocharger speed: 185,000 rpm
Rotation: Standard

What’s Included

GTX2860R Gen II super core with compressor housing fitted
Gasket kit

Applications

The GTX2860R Gen II Super Core is not vehicle specific. Garrett sizes it by engine and output:

Engine displacement: 1.4L to 2.5L
Power range: 200 to 475 horsepower (Garrett rating)
Garrett turbine kits: GT28R 0.57 and 0.72 A/R V-band free float, 0.64 and 0.86 A/R T25 internal wastegate

Notes

The turbine housing is not included; the same core is also sold as a super core and turbine housing assembly kit
The Garrett speed sensor kit is sold separately
Garrett states that running above 185,000 rpm is at the owner’s risk and can cause premature failure
This part number supersedes the earlier GTX2860R super core 836040-5002S

The Bulletproof Automotive website contains many thousands of products purchased in multiple different currencies. All of the prices are entered manually and accurately at the time of entry. Due to the consistently fluctuating international exchange rates, at times prices may not be able to be honored at their original intended rate. Shipping Policy

Items that are in stock in the US, either at Bulletproof’s warehouse or at a supplier’s warehouse, are generally delivered within 7-10 days. Special order items from overseas take considerably longer. As a courtesy Bulletproof offers delivery estimates to our customers which take into consideration manufacturer availability and shipping schedule. These estimates represent our best guess based on previous orders from the manufacturer and do not in any way imply a guaranteed delivery window. Many manufacturers work in a “just in time” inventory system and often take 2-20+ weeks to produce an item once an order is submitted. All deliverable items are then sent to our Japanese warehouse. Bulletproof ships a minimum of one full ocean freight container every month from Japan, oftentimes more than one a month. Ocean freight takes an average of 4 weeks. Typically it breaks down to one week in Japan for paperwork and customs, two weeks by boat and one week in US customs/clearance. Due to the wide number of variables between manufacturer and shipping schedules, delivery estimates are simply just that – estimates. We attempt to estimate conservatively and we usually deliver faster than our estimates suggest. It is not Bulletproof’s policy to guarantee delivery time of any special order item, this is impossible for us to do. By ordering you acknowledge that there is no required delivery ETA and an order may not be canceled or altered due to manufacturing or shipping delays, all ETA’s are provided as a best guess only. BP Pricing Difference

We do pricing a little differently on our JDM brands and we believe in making things simple and clear. No hidden fees or surcharges. Every price you see includes the shipping cost to our office in Los Angeles, California and all the associated taxes/duties/fees for bringing the products into the US. The only shipping you ever pay is from our facility in the US to your location. Be wary of resellers that don’t include the cost of international shipping in their pricing on JDM parts. While we believe we’ll always have the lowest all-in price on JDM products, we offer a price match guarantee for all authentic parts purchased from authorized dealers as well. For many international customers, it’s much more affordable to ship from the USA than from Japan directly, as the air freight and ocean freight costs are typically much less. However, for customers looking to ship directly from Japan outside of North America, or domestically in Japan, we can provide pricing specifically for that scenario. Please do not hesitate to contact us with any pricing questions or concerns. Please email us at sales@bulletproofautomotive.com with any inquiries.
