Does the G38-1000 G-Series II Super Core include a turbine housing?

No. It is supplied as the center housing rotating assembly with the compressor housing attached, and the turbine housing is chosen separately. Garrett lists six G38 kits, in 0.85, 0.95 and 1.06 A/R with either a V-band inlet or a divided T4 inlet, all with a V-band outlet and an external wastegate.

How much horsepower is the G38-1000 rated for?

Garrett rates the G38-1000 G-Series II Super Core at 500 to 1000 horsepower on engines from 2.0L to 5.5L. The rating is calculated from compressor choke flow and represents potential flywheel horsepower, and Garrett stresses that results depend heavily on the vehicle configuration and the ECU calibration.

Where does the G38 sit between the G35 and G40?

By turbine size. The G38 turbine wheel has a 74mm inducer and 66mm exducer, larger than the 68mm and 62mm G35 wheel and smaller than the 77mm and 70mm G40 wheel. With a 62mm compressor it matches the G40-1000 inducer while keeping a turbine sized for engines up to 5.5L.

What speed sensor should I use?

Garrett lists the G-Smart module and app, part 923586-0003, the street speed sensor kit with gauge, 781328-0003, and the pro kit without gauge, 781328-0004. Another section of the Garrett page shows different part numbers, so confirm the kit with Bulletproof Automotive before ordering. All are sold separately.

What is the maximum speed of the G38-1000?

Garrett publishes a maximum allowable speed of 125,000 rpm and warns that running above it can cause damage and premature failure. The integrated sensor port makes monitoring straightforward, and on an engine pushing toward 1000 horsepower it is worth fitting a sensor from the start.

Description

Garrett G38-1000 G-Series II Super Core, 62mm V-Band Outlet

Garrett’s G38-1000 G-Series II Super Core is a 62mm compressor with a V-band compressor outlet on the G38 frame, whose 74mm inducer and 66mm exducer turbine sits between the G35 and G40 wheels in size. Garrett rates it at 500 to 1000 horsepower on 2.0L to 5.5L engines and describes the compressor aero as having improved pressure ratio capability for higher boost. It suits a built engine that wants a larger turbine than the G35 without going to a G40, and Garrett lists only external wastegate G38 housings, so the exhaust must carry an external gate.

Monitoring and Weight

Garrett machines a sensor port into the compressor housing and names three ways to use it: the G-Smart module and app, part 923586-0003, the street speed sensor kit with gauge, 781328-0003, or the pro kit without gauge, 781328-0004. A lightweight aluminum backplate trims the weight of the turbocharger.

Features

62mm compressor inducer and 88mm exducer with G-Series II compressor aero
V-band compressor outlet
74mm and 66mm turbine wheel, Garrett frame reference 6266
Engineered by Garrett to OEM standards for durability and long-term performance

Specifications

Garrett turbo reference: 6266
Compressor inducer and exducer: 62mm and 88mm
Turbine inducer and exducer: 74mm and 66mm
Compressor outlet: V-band
Maximum turbocharger speed: 125,000 rpm

Applications

The G38-1000 G-Series II Super Core is not vehicle specific. Garrett sizes it by engine and output:

Engine displacement: 2.0L to 5.5L
Power range: 500 to 1000 horsepower (Garrett rating)
Garrett G38 turbine kits: 0.85, 0.95 and 1.06 A/R with V-band or divided T4 inlet, all external wastegate

Notes

The turbine housing is not included; Garrett lists G38 turbine housing kits for this core
Every turbine housing Garrett lists for this core is free float, so an external wastegate is required
The Garrett speed sensor kit is sold separately
Garrett states that running above 125,000 rpm is at the owner’s risk and can cause premature failure
A calibration is required to turn the extra compressor flow into more power

Additional Information

The Bulletproof Automotive website contains many thousands of products purchased in multiple different currencies. All of the prices are entered manually and accurately at the time of entry. Shipping Policy

Items that are in stock in the US, either at Bulletproof’s warehouse or at a supplier’s warehouse, are generally delivered within 7-10 days. Special order items from overseas take considerably longer. As a courtesy Bulletproof offers delivery estimates to our customers which take into consideration manufacturer availability and shipping schedule. These estimates represent our best guess based on previous orders from the manufacturer and do not in any way imply a guaranteed delivery window. Many manufacturers work in a “just in time” inventory system and often take 2-20+ weeks to produce an item once an order is submitted. All deliverable items are then sent to our Japanese warehouse. Bulletproof ships a minimum of one full ocean freight container every month from Japan, oftentimes more than one a month. Ocean freight takes an average of 4 weeks. Typically it breaks down to one week in Japan for paperwork and customs, two weeks by boat and one week in US customs/clearance. Due to the wide number of variables between manufacturer and shipping schedules, delivery estimates are simply just that – estimates. We attempt to estimate conservatively and we usually deliver faster than our estimates suggest. It is not Bulletproof’s policy to guarantee delivery time of any special order item, this is impossible for us to do. By ordering you acknowledge that there is no required delivery ETA and an order may not be canceled or altered due to manufacturing or shipping delays, all ETA’s are provided as a best guess only. BP Pricing Difference

We do pricing a little differently on our JDM brands and we believe in making things simple and clear. No hidden fees or surcharges. Every price you see includes the shipping cost to our office in Los Angeles, California and all the associated taxes/duties/fees for bringing the products into the US. The only shipping you ever pay is from our facility in the US to your location. Be wary of resellers that don’t include the cost of international shipping in their pricing on JDM parts. While we believe we’ll always have the lowest all-in price on JDM products, we offer a price match guarantee for all authentic parts purchased from authorized dealers as well. For many international customers, it’s much more affordable to ship from the USA than from Japan directly, as the air freight and ocean freight costs are typically much less. However, for customers looking to ship directly from Japan outside of North America, or domestically in Japan, we can provide pricing specifically for that scenario. Please do not hesitate to contact us with any pricing questions or concerns. Please email us at sales@bulletproofautomotive.com with any inquiries.
