Is the GXR57-98 Super Core rated higher than the GXR55-98?

Yes. Garrett rates the GXR57-98 Super Core at 1500 to 2900 horsepower, against 2800 for the GXR55-98. Both use the 98.9mm by 149mm compressor; the difference is the larger GXR57 turbine, 118mm by 112mm, which runs in G57 V-band housings instead of G55 housings.

How is the horsepower figure calculated?

Garrett bases it on the choke flow of the compressor map, which represents total turbocharger capability as potential flywheel horsepower. It is the upper limit of the compressor, not a dyno number, and performance depends heavily on the modifications and calibration of the vehicle.

How does the GXR57-98 compare with the G55-2400?

Garrett quotes 20 percent more compressor flow for the GXR57-98 than for the G55-2400, with improved pressure ratio capability and higher efficiency at high flow. It also moves to the GXR57 turbine and its G57 V-band housings, so the hot side of a G55 build changes.

Which turbine housings fit?

Garrett lists three G57 kits: 1.09, 1.25 and 1.41 A/R, all with V-band inlet and outlet and an external wastegate layout. No T6 inlet version is listed for the GXR57, so the exhaust manifold needs a V-band turbine flange and a separate wastegate.

Do I need a speed sensor for this core?

Garrett recommends one. The limit is 75,000 rpm, and use above it is at the risk of the owner and can cause damage and premature failure. The flange-style port accepts the Garrett speed sensor kit, sold separately, so shaft speed can be logged on every run.

Description

Garrett G-XRace GXR57-98 Super Core, 98.9mm Inducer, 112mm Turbine

Garrett’s GXR57-98 Super Core carries the largest GXR57 inducer, a 98.9mm inducer and 149mm exducer XBoost compressor matched to the 118mm by 112mm GXR57 turbine and coded 9812 in Garrett’s frame reference. Garrett rates it at 1500 to 2900 horsepower on 3.0L to 12.0L engines and quotes 20 percent more compressor flow than the G55-2400. It is meant for the biggest engines and power targets in the range, on G57 V-band turbine housings. For anything well under 2000 horsepower, a smaller GXR55 or GXR57 core will build boost sooner and suit the engine better.

Construction

The GXR57 uses a one-piece aluminum center housing and backplate to save weight, and a flange-style speed sensor port. Garrett describes the design as patented and publishes a compressor map and an overlay for this wheel.

Features

98.9mm inducer on a 149mm exducer XBoost wheel
20 percent more compressor flow than the G55-2400
118mm by 112mm GXR57 turbine wheel
One-piece aluminum center housing and backplate

Specifications

Garrett turbo reference: 9812
Compressor inducer and exducer: 98.9mm and 149mm
Turbine inducer and exducer: 118mm and 112mm
Maximum turbocharger speed: 75,000 rpm
Horsepower rating: Up to 2900 (Garrett rating)

Applications

The GXR57-98 Super Core is not vehicle specific. Garrett sizes it by engine and output:

Engine displacement: 3.0L to 12.0L
Power range: 1500 to 2900 horsepower (Garrett rating)
Garrett turbine kits: G57 1.09, 1.25 and 1.41 A/R, V-band inlet and outlet, external wastegate

Notes

The turbine housing is not included; Garrett’s matching G57 turbine housing kits are sold separately
An external wastegate is required, because every turbine housing Garrett lists for this core is free float
The Garrett speed sensor kit is sold separately
Garrett states that running above 75,000 rpm is at the owner’s risk and can result in damage and premature failure
Smaller-inducer cores are listed in the GXR57 range

Additional Information

The Bulletproof Automotive website contains many thousands of products purchased in multiple different currencies. All of the prices are entered manually and accurately at the time of entry. Due to the consistently fluctuating international exchange rates, at times prices may not be able to be honored at their original intended rate. Rest assured that any order you place on line will be at zero risk to you in this area. If in the event your order cannot be fulfilled at the original intended website price we will offer you a 100% refund, no questions asked. Shipping Policy

Items that are in stock in the US, either at Bulletproof’s warehouse or at a supplier’s warehouse, are generally delivered within 7-10 days. Special order items from overseas take considerably longer. As a courtesy Bulletproof offers delivery estimates to our customers which take into consideration manufacturer availability and shipping schedule. These estimates represent our best guess based on previous orders from the manufacturer and do not in any way imply a guaranteed delivery window. Many manufacturers work in a “just in time” inventory system and often take 2-20+ weeks to produce an item once an order is submitted. All deliverable items are then sent to our Japanese warehouse. Bulletproof ships a minimum of one full ocean freight container every month from Japan, oftentimes more than one a month. Ocean freight takes an average of 4 weeks. Typically it breaks down to one week in Japan for paperwork and customs, two weeks by boat and one week in US customs/clearance. Due to the wide number of variables between manufacturer and shipping schedules, delivery estimates are simply just that – estimates. We attempt to estimate conservatively and we usually deliver faster than our estimates suggest. It is not Bulletproof’s policy to guarantee delivery time of any special order item, this is impossible for us to do. By ordering you acknowledge that there is no required delivery ETA and an order may not be canceled or altered due to manufacturing or shipping delays, all ETA’s are provided as a best guess only. BP Pricing Difference

We do pricing a little differently on our JDM brands and we believe in making things simple and clear. No hidden fees or surcharges. Every price you see includes the shipping cost to our office in Los Angeles, California and all the associated taxes/duties/fees for bringing the products into the US. The only shipping you ever pay is from our facility in the US to your location. Be wary of resellers that don’t include the cost of international shipping in their pricing on JDM parts. While we believe we’ll always have the lowest all-in price on JDM products, we offer a price match guarantee for all authentic parts purchased from authorized dealers as well. For many international customers, it’s much more affordable to ship from the USA than from Japan directly, as the air freight and ocean freight costs are typically much less. However, for customers looking to ship directly from Japan outside of North America, or domestically in Japan, we can provide pricing specifically for that scenario. Please do not hesitate to contact us with any pricing questions or concerns. Please email us at sales@bulletproofautomotive.com with any inquiries.
