What is the difference between the G25-585 G-Series II Super Core and the G25-550?

Both use a 48mm compressor inducer and a 54mm turbine wheel. The G25-585 G-Series II Super Core adds new compressor aerodynamics, with Garrett quoting up to 10 percent more flow than the first generation at peak pressure ratio and turbo speed, which lifts the rating from 550 to 585 horsepower.

Will my existing G25 turbine housing fit?

Yes, provided it is a standard-rotation G25 housing. Garrett states that G-Series II uses the first-generation compressor and turbine housings, and lists the same five standard kits for this core: 0.49 A/R T25, 0.72 and 0.92 A/R V-band internal wastegate, and 0.72 and 0.92 A/R free float.

What does a super core include?

Garrett defines a super core as the center housing rotating assembly with the compressor housing attached, and this one also comes with the oil restrictor and water fittings Garrett lists as included. The turbine housing is chosen and bought separately, which is why this part suits builders who already know their exhaust layout.

Do I need a new tune for G-Series II?

Yes. Garrett states that a calibration is required to take advantage of the increased compressor flow. Bolting a G-Series II core in place of a first-generation unit without retuning leaves the extra flow unused, and a new installation needs a calibration written for this turbocharger in any case.

How fast can this turbocharger spin?

Garrett lists a maximum allowable speed of 185,000 rpm and warns that running above it can cause damage and premature failure. A speed sensor can be installed in the compressor housing, and Garrett sells the sensor kit separately, so the tuner can log shaft speed and keep it under the limit.

Description

Garrett G25-585 G-Series II Super Core, 48mm Standard Rotation

Garrett’s G25-585 G-Series II Super Core updates the 48mm G25 with new compressor aerodynamics that Garrett says deliver up to 10 percent more flow than the first generation at peak pressure ratio and turbo speed. It is the standard-rotation center housing rotating assembly with its compressor housing, rated at 300 to 585 horsepower on 1.4L to 3.0L engines, and it uses the same turbine housings as the original G25. For a new small-frame build targeting around 500 horsepower it is the current choice; an owner already running a G25-550 can keep the existing housings and fit the G-Series II CHRA instead.

Generation II Changes

Garrett built G-Series II around new compressor aero while keeping the first-generation compressor and turbine housing contours, so housings, piping and mounts carry over. The turbine wheel remains Mar-M alloy rated to 1050C (1922F). Garrett notes that a calibration is required before the extra flow becomes extra horsepower.

Features

48mm compressor inducer and 60mm exducer with G-Series II aerodynamics
54mm and 49mm turbine wheel, Garrett frame reference 4849
Oil restrictor and water fittings included

Specifications

Garrett turbo reference: 4849
Compressor inducer and exducer: 48mm and 60mm
Turbine inducer and exducer: 54mm and 49mm
Maximum turbocharger speed: 185,000 rpm
Rotation: Standard

What’s Included

G25-585 G-Series II standard rotation super core with compressor housing fitted
Oil restrictor and water fittings

Applications

The G25-585 G-Series II Super Core is not vehicle specific. Garrett sizes it by engine and output:

Engine displacement: 1.4L to 3.0L
Power range: 300 to 585 horsepower (Garrett rating)
Standard-rotation turbine kits: 0.49 A/R T25, 0.72 and 0.92 A/R V-band internal wastegate; 0.72 and 0.92 A/R V-band free float

Notes

The turbine housing is not included; Garrett lists G25 turbine housing kits for standard rotation
The Garrett speed sensor kit is sold separately
Garrett states that running above 185,000 rpm is at the owner’s risk and can cause premature failure
A calibration is required to turn the extra compressor flow into more power

Additional Information

The Bulletproof Automotive website contains many thousands of products purchased in multiple different currencies. All of the prices are entered manually and accurately at the time of entry. Due to the consistently fluctuating international exchange rates, at times prices may not be able to be honored at their original intended rate. Rest assured that any order you place on line will be at zero risk to you in this area. If in the event your order cannot be fulfilled at the original intended website price we will offer you a 100% refund, no questions asked. Shipping Policy

Items that are in stock in the US, either at Bulletproof’s warehouse or at a supplier’s warehouse, are generally delivered within 7-10 days. Special order items from overseas take considerably longer. As a courtesy Bulletproof offers delivery estimates to our customers which take into consideration manufacturer availability and shipping schedule. These estimates represent our best guess based on previous orders from the manufacturer and do not in any way imply a guaranteed delivery window. Many manufacturers work in a “just in time” inventory system and often take 2-20+ weeks to produce an item once an order is submitted. All deliverable items are then sent to our Japanese warehouse. Bulletproof ships a minimum of one full ocean freight container every month from Japan, oftentimes more than one a month. Ocean freight takes an average of 4 weeks. Typically it breaks down to one week in Japan for paperwork and customs, two weeks by boat and one week in US customs/clearance. Due to the wide number of variables between manufacturer and shipping schedules, delivery estimates are simply just that – estimates. We attempt to estimate conservatively and we usually deliver faster than our estimates suggest. It is not Bulletproof’s policy to guarantee delivery time of any special order item, this is impossible for us to do. By ordering you acknowledge that there is no required delivery ETA and an order may not be canceled or altered due to manufacturing or shipping delays, all ETA’s are provided as a best guess only. BP Pricing Difference

We do pricing a little differently on our JDM brands and we believe in making things simple and clear. No hidden fees or surcharges. Every price you see includes the shipping cost to our office in Los Angeles, California and all the associated taxes/duties/fees for bringing the products into the US. The only shipping you ever pay is from our facility in the US to your location. Be wary of resellers that don’t include the cost of international shipping in their pricing on JDM parts. While we believe we’ll always have the lowest all-in price on JDM products, we offer a price match guarantee for all authentic parts purchased from authorized dealers as well. For many international customers, it’s much more affordable to ship from the USA than from Japan directly, as the air freight and ocean freight costs are typically much less. However, for customers looking to ship directly from Japan outside of North America, or domestically in Japan, we can provide pricing specifically for that scenario. Please do not hesitate to contact us with any pricing questions or concerns. Please email us at sales@bulletproofautomotive.com with any inquiries.
