Is the black PowerMax M3 M4 Intercooler different from the aluminum one?

Only in finish. Garrett lists the black 888883-6002 and the aluminum 888883-6001 under one specification, with the same size, weight, coolant routing and 980 horsepower rating. Choose the black PowerMax M3 M4 Intercooler if you want it to match darker parts in the engine bay; the cooling performance Garrett publishes is the same for both.

Does it fit both the M3 and the M4?

Yes. Garrett lists it for the 2015 and later BMW M3 on the F80 chassis and the M4 on the F82 and F83 chassis, all with the six-cylinder gasoline engine. It installs in the stock location. Garrett does not list fitment for later M3 or M4 generations, so check the chassis code before ordering.

How much power will I gain?

Garrett measured an average of 12.4 horsepower and 4.9 lb-ft after heat soak on the tenth pull, and 18.7 horsepower and 6.4 lb-ft by the fifteenth. The gains come from cooler, denser charge air on repeated runs, so a car that sees track days or back-to-back pulls benefits most.

What does air-to-liquid mean on this car?

The charge air passes through a core cooled by liquid from a coolant circuit rather than by outside air flowing through the grille. The factory BMW cooler works the same way. Garrett kept that layout, enlarged the core by 47 percent and routed the coolant through it twice to pull more heat from the charge air.

Can I reuse my factory hardware?

Yes. Garrett designed it to install with the stock bolts, hoses and clamps, and quotes about an hour and a half for the job. Because it sits in the factory location, no fabrication is involved, and the rest of the intake plumbing on the car stays as it is.

Description

Garrett PowerMax M3 M4 Intercooler for F80 F82 F83 BMW M3 and M4, Black

Garrett’s PowerMax M3 M4 Intercooler in black finish is the direct-fit air-to-liquid charge cooler for the 2015 and later BMW M3 (F80) and M4 (F82 and F83), with a core Garrett states is 47 percent larger than the factory part and dual-pass coolant flow. It goes into the stock location, reuses the original bolts, hoses and clamps, and is rated to support up to 980 horsepower. Garrett lists this flat black 888883-6002 and the bare aluminum 888883-6001 under a single specification, so the finish is the only choice to make. It suits a tuned car that loses power to heat soak on back-to-back runs more than a stock car driven gently.

Testing and Results

Garrett measured average gains of 12.4 horsepower and 4.9 lb-ft after heat soak on the tenth dyno pull, rising to 18.7 horsepower and 6.4 lb-ft by the fifteenth. Outlet temperature ran about 5F lower on each run before heat soak and 10F lower once soaked, and Garrett puts instantaneous effectiveness at 92 percent against 90 percent for the factory cooler.

Features

Flat black finish on the same design as the aluminum version
Bar-and-plate core 47 percent larger than stock, with dual-pass coolant flow
Cast aluminum end tanks shaped with computational fluid dynamics
The PowerMax M3 M4 Intercooler installs in about 1.5 hours with the stock bolts, hoses and clamps

Shipping Policy

Items that are in stock in the US, either at Bulletproof’s warehouse or at a supplier’s warehouse, are generally delivered within 7-10 days. Special order items from overseas take considerably longer. As a courtesy Bulletproof offers delivery estimates to our customers which take into consideration manufacturer availability and shipping schedule. These estimates represent our best guess based on previous orders from the manufacturer and do not in any way imply a guaranteed delivery window. Many manufacturers work in a “just in time” inventory system and often take 2-20+ weeks to produce an item once an order is submitted. All deliverable items are then sent to our Japanese warehouse. Bulletproof ships a minimum of one full ocean freight container every month from Japan, oftentimes more than one a month. Ocean freight takes an average of 4 weeks. Typically it breaks down to one week in Japan for paperwork and customs, two weeks by boat and one week in US customs/clearance. Due to the wide number of variables between manufacturer and shipping schedules, delivery estimates are simply just that – estimates. We attempt to estimate conservatively and we usually deliver faster than our estimates suggest. It is not Bulletproof’s policy to guarantee delivery time of any special order item, this is impossible for us to do. By ordering you acknowledge that there is no required delivery ETA and an order may not be canceled or altered due to manufacturing or shipping delays, all ETA’s are provided as a best guess only. BP Pricing Difference

We do pricing a little differently on our JDM brands and we believe in making things simple and clear. No hidden fees or surcharges. Every price you see includes the shipping cost to our office in Los Angeles, California and all the associated taxes/duties/fees for bringing the products into the US. The only shipping you ever pay is from our facility in the US to your location. Be wary of resellers that don’t include the cost of international shipping in their pricing on JDM parts. While we believe we’ll always have the lowest all-in price on JDM products, we offer a price match guarantee for all authentic parts purchased from authorized dealers as well. For many international customers, it’s much more affordable to ship from the USA than from Japan directly, as the air freight and ocean freight costs are typically much less. However, for customers looking to ship directly from Japan outside of North America, or domestically in Japan, we can provide pricing specifically for that scenario. Please do not hesitate to contact us with any pricing questions or concerns. Please email us at sales@bulletproofautomotive.com with any inquiries.
