What is the difference between the GXR57-88 Super Core and the GXR55-88?

The turbine. The GXR57-88 Super Core uses a 118mm by 112mm turbine wheel and G57 V-band housings, while the 149mm GXR55-88 uses a 112mm by 106mm wheel with G55 housings. The compressor is shared, and Garrett rates the GXR57-88 to 2600 horsepower against 2500.

Will it fit a class with an 88mm inducer rule?

The compressor inducer measures 88.9mm, and Garrett lists the GXR57-88 for drag race classes and classes with compressor inducer rules. Class requirements differ and change, so Garrett asks buyers to verify the rules before purchasing a core for a class car.

How much horsepower is it rated for?

Garrett gives 1200 to 2600 horsepower on engines from 3.0L to 12.0L. The rating is calculated from compressor choke flow and represents potential flywheel horsepower, so the actual figure depends on fuel, boost, intercooling and the calibration chosen for the engine.

Which turbine housings fit the GXR57?

Garrett lists three G57 kits: 1.09, 1.25 and 1.41 A/R, all with a V-band inlet and V-band outlet and no internal wastegate. There is no T6 inlet option in the GXR57 list, so the manifold needs a V-band turbine flange and an external wastegate.

What is the maximum shaft speed?

75,000 rpm, according to Garrett. Running faster is at the risk of the owner and can result in damage and premature failure. A speed sensor in the flange-style port, sold separately, lets the tuner watch shaft speed during a pass and adjust boost to suit.

Description

Garrett G-XRace GXR57-88 Super Core, 88.9mm Inducer, 112mm Turbine

Garrett’s GXR57-88 Super Core pairs the 88.9mm by 149mm XBoost compressor of the 149mm GXR55-88 with the larger GXR57 turbine, a 118mm inducer and 112mm exducer wheel, coded 8812. The bigger turbine lifts Garrett’s rating to 1200 to 2600 horsepower against 2500 for the GXR55-88, on the same 3.0L to 12.0L displacement window. It suits an 88mm inducer class car whose engine needs more exhaust flow than the 106mm turbine allows. Turbine housing choice narrows to three G57 V-band kits, so a T6 manifold is the wrong starting point for this core.

Construction

Garrett builds the GXR57 with a one-piece aluminum center housing and backplate and a flange-style speed sensor port, and describes the design as patented. The three G57 housings, 1.09, 1.25 and 1.41 A/R, have V-band inlet and outlet and an external wastegate layout.

Features

88.9mm inducer for classes with an 88mm inducer rule
118mm by 112mm GXR57 turbine wheel
40 percent more compressor flow than the G55-1950
One-piece aluminum center housing and backplate

Specifications

Garrett turbo reference: 8812
Compressor inducer and exducer: 88.9mm and 149mm
Turbine inducer and exducer: 118mm and 112mm
Maximum turbocharger speed: 75,000 rpm
Horsepower rating: Up to 2600 (Garrett rating)

Applications

The GXR57-88 Super Core is not vehicle specific. Garrett sizes it by engine and output:

Engine displacement: 3.0L to 12.0L
Power range: 1200 to 2600 horsepower (Garrett rating)
Garrett turbine kits: G57 1.09, 1.25 and 1.41 A/R, V-band inlet and outlet, external wastegate

Notes

The turbine housing is not included; Garrett’s matching G57 turbine housing kits are sold separately
An external wastegate is required, because every turbine housing Garrett lists for this core is free float
The Garrett speed sensor kit is sold separately
Garrett states that running above 75,000 rpm is at the owner’s risk and can result in damage and premature failure
Garrett asks buyers to verify class rules before purchasing a core for an inducer-limited class
Larger-inducer cores are listed in the GXR57 range

Additional Information

The Bulletproof Automotive website contains many thousands of products purchased in multiple different currencies. All of the prices are entered manually and accurately at the time of entry. Due to the consistently fluctuating international exchange rates, at times prices may not be able to be honored at their original intended rate. Shipping Policy

Items that are in stock in the US, either at Bulletproof’s warehouse or at a supplier’s warehouse, are generally delivered within 7-10 days. Special order items from overseas take considerably longer. As a courtesy Bulletproof offers delivery estimates to our customers which take into consideration manufacturer availability and shipping schedule. These estimates represent our best guess based on previous orders from the manufacturer and do not in any way imply a guaranteed delivery window. Many manufacturers work in a “just in time” inventory system and often take 2-20+ weeks to produce an item once an order is submitted. All deliverable items are then sent to our Japanese warehouse. Bulletproof ships a minimum of one full ocean freight container every month from Japan, oftentimes more than one a month. Ocean freight takes an average of 4 weeks. Typically it breaks down to one week in Japan for paperwork and customs, two weeks by boat and one week in US customs/clearance. Due to the wide number of variables between manufacturer and shipping schedules, delivery estimates are simply just that – estimates. We attempt to estimate conservatively and we usually deliver faster than our estimates suggest. It is not Bulletproof’s policy to guarantee delivery time of any special order item, this is impossible for us to do. By ordering you acknowledge that there is no required delivery ETA and an order may not be canceled or altered due to manufacturing or shipping delays, all ETA’s are provided as a best guess only. BP Pricing Difference

We do pricing a little differently on our JDM brands and we believe in making things simple and clear. No hidden fees or surcharges. Every price you see includes the shipping cost to our office in Los Angeles, California and all the associated taxes/duties/fees for bringing the products into the US. The only shipping you ever pay is from our facility in the US to your location. Be wary of resellers that don’t include the cost of international shipping in their pricing on JDM parts. While we believe we’ll always have the lowest all-in price on JDM products, we offer a price match guarantee for all authentic parts purchased from authorized dealers as well. For many international customers, it’s much more affordable to ship from the USA than from Japan directly, as the air freight and ocean freight costs are typically much less. However, for customers looking to ship directly from Japan outside of North America, or domestically in Japan, we can provide pricing specifically for that scenario. Please do not hesitate to contact us with any pricing questions or concerns. Please email us at sales@bulletproofautomotive.com with any inquiries.
